Chapter 96
Even though she could handle it, Calliope wasnโt sure what Silas was thinking. In front of the Baker family, he, of course, said he wanted kids.
But deep down, she figured there was another woman in his heart. If there were someone he loved, how could he have a child with someone else?
As Calliope walked out of the room, she couldnโt help but glance toward the end of the hallway. There was a room thereโSilasโs forbidden territory.
Silas had made it clear she wasnโt allowed inside. Adah had also warned her that no one could enter that room, as it held something more precious to Silas than life itself.
Calliope guessed it probably had to do with the woman in his heart. It was his forbidden sanctuary, the one place that housed his vulnerability.
Pushing aside the thoughts swirling in her mind, Calliope headed downstairs.
โAdah, do we have any birth control pills in the house?โ She asked without thinking.
Realizing her blunder, she felt awkwardโwhy would there be birth control pills at home? It wasnโt appropriate to ask Adah.
โNope,โ Adah replied, glancing at her with a knowing smile. โSilas isnโt getting any younger. You donโt want to have a baby, Mrs. Myers?โ
โWeโre not quite ready yet,โ Calliope explained awkwardly. โAdah, Iโm not hungry. Iโm heading out.โ
After that, Calliope grabbed her keys and drove off. She went straight to a nearby pharmacy, bought some emergency contraception, and only then did she feel a bit more at ease.
Unbeknownst to Calliope, Silas was parked across the street as she left the pharmacy, watching her with deep, inscrutable eyes. His handsome face was a mask of unreadable emotion.
Sitting in the driverโs seat, Fagan glanced back at him secretly.
Of course, he recognized Calliope but hadnโt expected to see her there.
Silasโs reaction sent shivers down his spine. The air in the car was practically freezing.
โFind out what she just bought,โ Silas instructed Fagan.
โYes, sir.โ Fagan hurried out of the car and dashed into the pharmacy.
After much effort, he finally unearthed the information. The result left him with mixed feelings. He had a hunch Silas wouldnโt be pleased.
Still, he couldnโt quite understand it. Mrs. Myers had finally married Mr. Myers, but why didnโt she want to have his child? In such situations, wouldnโt a clever woman want to have a child to secure her position?
Of course, Fagan wasnโt about to voice his thoughts. When he returned, he cautiously reported back to Silas.
As expected, the temperature in the car dropped even further. Fagan shivered, keeping his mouth shut.
Silas remained silent for a long time, watching Calliopeโs car drive away. She didnโt want to have his child. Even though he knew their marriage was one of convenience, heโd hoped she might develop some feelings for him.
His gaze grew darker.
When he returned to the office for a meeting, Fagan was shocked.
Silas was particularly unapproachable. He was in a foul mood.
Many people got yelled at, but no one dared to say anything. After all, Silasโs capabilities were well known, and seeing him was like encountering a force of nature.
Even when Uriah Stewart came to see Silas at the office, he could sense the ominous aura surrounding him.
