Chapter 1011
โIf it werenโt for my goddaughter, I wouldnโt even bother with you,โ Lena said, gently rocking the baby in her arms. โRight, little Aurora? Your godmother just adores you.โ
โCome on, Aurora, itโs time to eat,โ Lena said as she carefully placed the baby in Keiraโs arms.
Although it was her first time, Keira wasnโt embarrassed. She followed Lenaโs instructions, trying to breastfeed for the first time. But the process wasโฆ painful. And since her posture was incorrect, neither of them got it rightโKeira ended up covered in sweat from struggling, and her baby still hadnโt eaten properly.
Panic set in. Anxiety crept up her spine.
โWhat do I do?โ Keira asked, her voice tight with unease.
โItโs okay. This happens at first. Letโs transition with formula for now,โ Lena reassured Keira before glancing at Hayden, who had been standing there the whole time, watching anxiouslyโand sweating just as much as Keira. โGo make your daughter a bottle,โ she told him.
Hayden, the man who always came prepared, was suddenly as clueless as a rookie.
โWill it always be this difficult?โ he asked, frowning.
โItโll get easier. Once the specialists arrive in the morning, and Rea gets the hang of it after a couple of tries, everything will smooth out,โ Lena said, her tone relaxed. She had seen far too many cases like this to be worried.
Hearing this, Hayden visibly relaxed. He wiped the sweat off Keiraโs forehead before heading off to prepare the formula.
โEven with a daughter, he still hasnโt forgotten about his wife. Not bad,โ Lena praised.
Since Keira hadnโt managed to breastfeed successfully, her once calm and quiet baby started fussing. Lena gently rocked her, soothing her in a soft voice.
โDonโt worry, sweetheart. Give your new daddy a little time. Heโs making your milk right now,โ she cooed.
Even though Hayden had practiced beforehand, he was clearly nervous. He double-checked the water temperature and formula measurements multiple times before finally getting it just right. By the time he handed the bottle to Lena, he had broken into a second wave of sweat.
Taking care of a baby was no jokeโit was exhausting for both parents. Lena didnโt immediately take over. Instead, she looked at him and said, โI should feed her?โ
Hayden, still holding the bottle, stared at her as if waiting for her to do it.
Lena smirked. โNope. You do it.โ She placed Aurora into his arms.
โYou need to learn. If Rea isnโt able to fully breastfeed, then preparing bottles and feeding the baby will be your job,โ she said matter-of-factly.
Chapter 1011
โBut itโs my first timeโฆ what if I mess up and she chokes on something?โ Hayden hesitated.
โThen go slow,โ Lena encouraged.
At this point, Keira could see her plan clearly. Lena was training Hayden to be a fully capable dadโso Kelta wouldnโt have to. She genuinely cared about her and wanted to lighten her load.
Keira appreciated Lenaโs effort. After all, there was no way sheโd be able to do much in the next few days. Her stitches hurt too much, and she needed time to recover. Plus, once the nannies and baby nurses arrived, she wouldnโt have to do much at all.
Still, she wanted to be involved. This was her childโbeing part of her care was her right and her joy.
Hayden, despite being nervous, fed their baby without issue. He followed Lenaโs guidance, ensuring the pace was neither too fast nor too slow. At last, Aurora drank her fill and drifted back to sleep. Lena then taught him how to burp her properly so she wouldnโt spit up later.
Once he finished, he gazed down at their sleeping daughter, finally letting out a breath.
โYou know,โ he said thoughtfully, โI couldโve studied a thousand times, but nothing beats hands-on experience.โ
Even with all his preparation, once he had to actually do it, he still struggled.
With the baby asleep, Lena urged Keira to rest as well before heading back to the break room. But the moment she stepped outside, she froze. A tall figure was standing there, waiting. Who else could it be but Aaron? She glanced at the windowโthe sky was starting to lighten.
Had he been here all night?
โWhy are you just standing there? Want me to make you wait even longer?โ
Hearing her voice, Aaron smirked. His deep, smooth voice carried through the quiet hallway. โYou were the one spacing out instead of coming over,โ he said.
