Chapter 307
โThis is an airport terminal. There are people everywhere, including children,โ I reminded Hayden.
He hummed. โI know.โ
โThen why are you stillโฆโ My face flushed.
โPlease,โ he said softly but firmly.
I assumed heโd noticed Jace and was acting out of jealousy, perhaps wanting to send a message. Taking a deep breath, I braced myself for his kiss amidst the bustling terminal.
But instead of his lips, something slipped into my hand. I opened my eyes and saw a small pouch.
โWhatโs this?โ I asked, utterly confused.
Hayden nodded towards it, urging me to look. I opened the pouch and found two bank cards and a couple of documents: his army discharge certificate and a blood donation record.
โWhat does this mean?โ I asked, still bewildered.
Hayden showed me the discharge certificate. โThis proves Iโve been through a lot and emerged strongerโmore dependable than any insurance. And this,โ he said, holding up the blood donation record, โshows I have a compassionate heart. These cards? They hold everything I have to give.โ
I thought of dramatic novel scenes where the hero relinquishes everything to prove his love. But this wasnโt just about money; Hayden was giving me his trust, his beliefs, himself.
Looking at the blood donation record, I felt a pang in my chest. โHayden, why are you giving me all this?โ
โItโs my promise to you. This is more real than any love insurance,โ he said, making me wonder if he knew about the love insurance Jace and I had purchased years ago. But that was irrelevant. What mattered was his willingness to give me everything.
โIโll keep these,โ I said, holding the documents. โBut you should keep the cards.โ I wouldnโt take his money. I wasnโt someone who chased after money; if I were, I would have stayed with Jace.
Hayden didnโt reclaim the cards. He looked sheepish. โThis money probably isnโt enough to cover Yunaโs surgery.โ
I blinked, then laughed. โOh, so youโre asking me to chip in?โ
Chapter 907
He took my hand. โKiki, Iโm sorry.โ
I laughed harder, a genuine, bright laugh.
Hayden looked confused. โWhy are you laughing? Do you think Iโm adorably broke?โ
That made me laugh even more. He was actually using phrases like that now?
I nodded, still giggling. โYes, adorably broke.โ
โKikiโฆโ
โHayden,โ I said, sobering. โDid you know I used to think you had a secret identity?โ
โA secret identity?โ He looked puzzled. โWhat kind of secret identity?โ
โYou know that big boss at our company? The one whose last name is Hart? I thought maybe that was you,โ I admitted.
Hayden raised an eyebrow. โAnd now youโre sure Iโm not?โ
I nodded. โRight, considering youโre so broke you canโt even cover Yunaโs surgery, thereโs no way youโre secretly the big boss funding Ron.โ
Hayden fell silent.
โBut our big boss is kind of strange,โ I continued, filling the silence. โIt felt like he was favoring me. Now that I see how Ron treats you, I get it. He probably just values talent, which is why he was good to me. I guess I was overthinking things.โ
Hayden remained silent. I shook his arm lightly. โWhy arenโt you saying anything?โ
โKiki,โ he said softly, โdo you really hate it when people lie to you?โ
