Chapter 337

My period had just started. "Wait up!" I called after Lena, jogging to catch up. "You totally jinxed me—now my period's here. Can I borrow some of your stuff?"

Lena didn't miss a beat, pulling the break room key from her pocket and handing it to me. "Help yourself."

We entered the elevator, heading to her department. Before we arrived, shouting echoed down the hall.

"You shameless bitch! You married my son, and now you're running around with another man! You killed my son! And now you're pregnant with some bastard child and have the audacity to claim it's ours? You think we're stupid? You just want Desmond's compensation money!"

Lena rushed ahead, but I hesitated. That voice…it sounded familiar.

I needed pads and a restroom, but curiosity won. I moved toward the commotion.

"This baby is Desmond's. Once it's born, we can do a paternity test and prove it," I heard a familiar voice before I got closer.

Tanya. Of course. No wonder the voice was familiar.

"You think we'll believe that? We know you've latched onto some bigshot now, and with enough money, you could make any test say whatever you want. There's no way that child is Desmond's," Mrs. Blake—Desmond's mother—snapped, her voice bitter.

The crowd grew as Mrs. Blake's voice escalated. "Everyone, come see this shameless woman! She cheated on my son, and when he confronted her, he ended up in that car crash!" she cried, her voice raw with desperation. "Oh God, who will punish her and bring justice for my son?"

Lena intervened, attempting to calm the situation. "Ma'am, this is a hospital. You need to stop yelling; you'll disturb other patients."

Stop yelling here? So, it's fine to yell somewhere else? I chuckled. Lena recognized Tanya, explaining her delicate approach.

"Doctor, I'm not making a scene. It's her and her lover who killed my son! He was our only son…" Mrs. Blake's voice cracked with grief, eliciting a touch of sympathy.

"This is a family matter," Lena said calmly. "It's inappropriate to discuss it here. Why don't you take this outside?"

Mrs. Blake shook her head. "No! I'm staying right here. I want everyone to know what a disgrace this woman is! She cheated on my son and killed her own husband!"

Lena sighed. "Please, lower your voice."

"I won't lower my voice! I want the whole world to hear me. And not just here—I'll follow her wherever she goes! I'll shout and curse at her every step of the way!"

I smirked. Classic Lena, always having my back. This wasn't calming things; it was like adding fuel to the fire.

This was going nowhere. Lena, with a small smirk, knew it too. She turned to Tanya, her face serious. "Ma'am, perhaps it's best if you leave now. Let her calm down."

Tanya's face was flushed, her eyes brimming with tears. She knew her words were useless. She turned to leave, frustration and helplessness evident in her every movement.

But Mrs. Blake wasn't finished. Seeing Tanya leave, she lunged forward, grabbing her hair.

Tanya cried out as Mrs. Blake, fueled by rage and grief, clawed, slapped, and scratched wildly.

Most onlookers were pregnant women; the chaos caused them to instinctively recoil. No one intervened. Tanya was left defenseless as Mrs. Blake's blows landed, stinging even from a distance.

"You think you can fool us with this bastard child for money? Today, I'll make sure you lose that baby!" Mrs. Blake screamed. With terrifying speed, she lunged at Tanya's stomach.
