Chapter 338
If Mrs. Blake actually rammed into Tanya like that, the baby would certainly be lost. Even though she refused to believe it, Jace had already made it clear the baby wasn't hisโit was Desmond's. If something happened to that baby, their family line would end.
My heart leaped, and I was sprinting forward before I knew it. Lena, closest to Mrs. Blake, moved quickly, grabbing her just in time. "Mrs. Blake, you cannot do this!"
Tanya, silent until then, suddenly snapped, "Let her hit me! This is her own grandchild. If she kills it, her family line's gone for good!"
"You still claim that child is ours?" Mrs. Blake raged, her eyes blazing. "I'll beat it out of you right now and prove it!"
"Fine! Let's settle it right here!" Tanya retorted, equally furious.
I didn't want to intervene, but the baby was innocentโand Desmond's last connection to the world. I took a deep breath and stormed over, grabbing Tanya's arm. "Do you really want to lose this baby?"
Tanya blinked, momentarily stunned, her face flushing crimson.
"Come with me," I said, pulling her away from the chaos.
"You can't take her away! She needs to pay for what she did to my son!" Mrs. Blake shrieked hysterically.
I shot Lena a look. She tightened her grip on Mrs. Blake and, calmly but firmly, said, "If your son truly died unjustly, then fight for him through legal channels. Acting like this only hurts yourself."
Lena's handling of the situation was impressive. But instead of calming Mrs. Blake, her words only intensified her anger. "My only son is dead! Who's going to bury me? I don't care about living anymore!" Mrs. Blake's voice cracked with despair. She was intent on self-destruction.
"Move!" I hissed at Tanya.
This time, she followed without resistance. As we hurried away, Mrs. Blake's curses echoed down the hall. Once out of sight, I released Tanya.
She looked a wreckโhair disheveled, face swollen with angry red marks, and blood trickling from her mouth. It was pitiful. But, as the saying goes, "Those who are pitiful must have done something to deserve it." And Tanya had played her part in Desmond's death. This was her consequence.
Chapter 338 (Continued)
"Do you think I deserve this?" Tanya's voice was tight, barely containing her emotion.
I scoffed. "Yes."
Her eyes flared, but I wouldn't sugarcoat it. "You think a few slaps are enough to make up for the life you cost Desmond?"
Tanya's face twisted with frustration. "It was an accident! Why is everyone blaming me?" She genuinely believed she wasn't at faultโno guilt, no regretโjust self-defense after pushing Desmond to the brink through her betrayal.
I didn't know the whole story, but what I did know was enough. Her infidelity had led to the crash. Desmond had loved her so much, and this was his reward? Betrayal. No remorse. And now, she was ready to discard the last piece of himโhis child.
Anger surged through me. Desmond didn't deserve this. He didn't deserve her. And he certainly didn't deserve to die because of her mistakes.
"If you hadn't slept with Jace, would Desmond have had that accident?" I asked sharply.
Tanya froze, speechless.
I continued, "You don't want this baby because you think it'll ruin your perfect future, right? Well, let me tell you: without this baby, Jace wouldn't even look your way."
Tanya's face flushed crimson. "What gives you the right to say that? You don't know what Jace feels for me!" she snapped, her voice shaky.
