Chapter 350
Lindey caught me as I stumbled back. My heart pounded as I stared at Tanyaโher face pale, completely rattled. Had I hit a nerve? I was merely speculating, trying to provoke a reaction, but her meltdown made me wonder: Was Desmondโs death truly an accident? If Tanya had been involved, she was far more dangerous than Iโd imagined. No wonder Desmondโs parents had cursed her. Perhaps they knew more than anyone realized.
โTanya, youโre feeling guilty, arenโt you?โ I pressed, determined to break her facade. She was already shaken, but now it was time to dismantle her entire charade.
Tanya shook her head, clinging to her denial.
โYou set Desmond up,โ I continued, my voice steady. โHe became an obstacle in your ascent to wealth and status. He had to go so you could pursue your ambitions.โ
Her eyes widened in horror as I revealed everything. โBut you knew being twice-married would hinder your chances with Jace. So you staged a sceneโsomething Desmond would stumble upon. You knew that after his death, Jace would feel guilty and take care of you, regardless.โ
โNo! No, thatโs not true!โ Tanya screamed.
โIt doesnโt matter what you say. The truth always emerges. People always leave traces,โ I added, watching her unravel. She was unaccustomed to this kind of pressureโshe hadnโt committed many terrible acts, which is why a few words were causing such distress. But she had still caused someone's death.
โI didnโt want Desmond to die. I didnโtโฆโ The bottle slipped from her trembling hands, hitting the floor with a sharp clatter. She cradled her head, succumbing to the weight of her guilt. She hadnโt intended for him to die, but he did. That was all the confirmation I neededโDesmondโs โaccidentโ had been orchestrated by her.
A chill ran down my spine as I glanced at her swollen belly. โAnd I bet you didnโt plan on being pregnant with Desmondโs child, either, did you?โ
Tanya curled into herself, utterly broken. Seeing her like that, I said nothing more. The truth was out.
โYouโre terrifying. Iโll never let Jace end up with you,โ Lindey said, her voice thick with disgust and shock. She had pieced it all together, too.
Tanya slowly raised her head, her face pale, but her eyes locked onto mine with seething hatred. She despised me for exposing her lies. Then she turned her glare toward Lindey, her voice dripping with venom. โNone of you will stop me. If you try, Iโll make sure we all go down together.โ
โDonโt you dare threaten me with that crap,โ Lindey shot back, her anger flaring.
Tanya dropped the innocent act entirely, a mocking smile curling her lips. โThen try me, and see what happens.โ
A sense of dread washed over me as I watched her. Something felt wrong. โTanya, what are you planning?โ
She looked at me coldly. โKeira, youโre so clever, arenโt you? You always figure things out. So why donโt you try guessing what Iโll do next?โ
I clenched my fists, bracing for whatever twisted plan she had concocted. Then Tanya turned back to Lindey. โIn three days, I want to see Jace. If I donโt, just waitโyou wonโt want to miss the show.โ
With that, she stood and walked out.
โIโm ready. Letโs see what kind of nonsense you try pulling,โ Lindey muttered after her, unafraid. She was the type who remained calm until someone crossed her, and then it was game over. But Tanya? She seemed beyond caring, as if sheโd reached a point of no return. She smirked as she left.
Lindey picked up the bottle Tanya had left behind, ready to chase after her. โTake this with you!โ
I stopped her. โThatโs a dangerous substance, Lindey. Better not let anyone touch it.โ
