Chapter 351

Especially not Tanya. As awful as she was, the baby she carried was innocent, and Desmond's only heir.

Once Tanya was gone, Lindey shook with anger. Jace completely fell for her trap! I always thought he was smartโ€”how could he have made such a terrible mistake?

She grabbed my arm. "Rea, you heard everything."

I let out a bitter laugh. Of course, I did. I was the one who said it.

"Rea, Jace was tricked! She deceived him!" Lindey sounded desperate, pleading for understanding.

"Lindey, he wouldn't have fallen for it if he hadn't opened the door. If Jace was played, it's because he gave her the opportunity," I countered firmly.

She opened her mouth to argue, then sighed. "How could she be so heartless? She even betrayed her own husband."

People will do anything for money. Greed is ugly.

"I can't let Jace marry her. If she gets into this family, Matthew and I are next," Lindey muttered, more to herself than to me.

Honestly, I didn't belong in this mess.

"No, we need to call the police. We can't let her get away with this. Once she's locked up, she won't be able to manipulate Jace," Lindey said, grabbing my arm as if she'd found the perfect solution.

"Rea, I used to think Jace left because he was angry, but now I see itโ€”she drove him away," Lindey shook her head, filled with regret.

She squeezed my hand harder. "You know everything. You go to the police. Hand over the evidence and let them arrest her."

Looking at Lindey's anxious, hopeful expression, I dropped my gaze. "I don't have any evidence."

"No evidence? But you know everythingโ€”how could you not have anything?" Lindey said, unconvinced.

I smirked. "It was just a guess. I said it off the cuff." I never expected to be right.

"Then we'll find the evidence, or call the police and let them investigate," she said, her eyes lighting up with determination. She'd already made up her mindโ€”Tanya had to go.

I remained silent. Lindey sighed. "You shouldn't get involved. I'll handle it."

Well, at least that was one less problem for me.

Remembering why I came, I asked, "Did you find the cremation document?"

"Not yet," she said, patting my hand. "Wait here. I'll get it."

She went to Matthew's study, and I sat, glancing at the bottle of pills on the floor. I called Isabel and asked her to take care of it.

About ten minutes later, Lindey returned with a yellowed piece of paper.

I took it, my hands trembling slightly. Seeing my parents' names and reading the brief lines, my chest tightened painfully.

"Rea," Lindey said softly, folding the document in my hands. "Don't dwell on it. Go take care of your business."

I nodded, ready to leave.

"Rea, be careful," Lindey added as I turned.

I paused, slightly confused. She clarified, "Be careful of Tanya."

I gave a slight nod, not taking it seriously. But as soon as I left the Johnston residence, a red Mercedes pulled up, blocking my way. Tanya stepped out. Lindey's warning flashed in my mind as I rolled down the window. "Tanya Twain, what do you want? Here to drag me down with you, or are you here to beg?"
