“Ouch!” Ron quickly turned, shielding his eyes. “What? Never seen two people in love before?” Hayden asked, unfazed.

Ron lowered his hand. “Oh, I’ve seen it. Just never this… PDA.” He turned to me. “Ms. Kay, you really live up to your marketing role—always something fresh.”

I blinked, speechless.

“And why are you still standing there? Maybe you’re good, but your guest is tired just watching,” Hayden quipped, silencing Ron instantly.

Ron slapped his forehead. “Look at me! You two flustered me; I almost forgot the main event.” He gestured toward the door. “Boss, please.”

Wait, boss?

I froze as a short, round man, looking seven months pregnant, waddled in. I glanced at Hayden. He was seated, casually rubbing his lips, a faint smudge of my lipstick visible.

“Boss, right here!” Ron rushed over, pulling out a chair. Then it hit me—Ron’s “someone you’ve been wanting to meet” comment. Before I could process it, Ron began introductions: “Boss, our star team: Chief Engineer Hayden Hart, and Director of Marketing, Keira Kay. And this is our big boss, Kylian Hart.”

This was the big boss? The one I’d been curious about? He looked nothing like I imagined. And he shared Hayden's last name? Was he the investor, not Hayden?

Hayden greeted him formally. I stood stunned. Ron snapped me back. “Ms. Kay, don’t just gawk—say hi!”

I composed myself, nodding politely to the man who looked thirty in the face, fifty in the body. “Nice to meet you, Mr. Hart.”

“I know who you are. Please, sit,” he replied, smiling easily. He had the laid-back vibe I’d heard about, but a strange feeling lingered. Since learning the investor had the last name Hart, I’d assumed Hayden was the boss. My theory was wrong. Something felt off.

Instead of sitting, I stood. “Sorry, I need a quick call.” Passing Ron, I whispered, “Mr. Shane, can we talk outside?”

“Of course, beauty. Whenever you need me,” Ron said, smirking at Hayden. “Hayden, keep the boss company. You two might find out you’re long-lost relatives.”

Outside, Ron grinned. “So, what’s up? Want the inside scoop on the boss?”

“Yeah.”

His grin widened. “What do you want to know? Is he single? Looking?”

I ignored his teasing. “Is he really the boss?”

Ron laughed. “Why? Doesn’t he seem like it?”
