Chapter 388

Three days later, Yuna was moved from the recovery room. There were no signs of rejection, no discomfortโ€”her recovery progressed faster than even Nate anticipated.

โ€œIt seems someone elseโ€™s heart suits her perfectly,โ€ Lena remarked with admiration.

โ€œMaybe the heartโ€™s original owner wasnโ€™t quite ready to leave yet,โ€ I joked, holding a bouquet of fresh flowers.

The thought lingered, so I leaned closer to Lena and whispered, โ€œDo you know anything about the donor?โ€

Lena gave me a quick, sideways glance. โ€œThatโ€™s confidential.โ€

I knew that, of course. I wasn't pryingโ€”simply amazed that someone's sacrifice had saved Yuna's life. Such selflessness is rare.

The recovery room door swung open, and Yuna was wheeled out. Although Hayden and I had visited several times, seeing her leave that room felt profoundly different. This wasn't just exiting a recovery room; it marked the beginning of her new life, a life of health.

โ€œHayden! Keira! Lena!โ€ Yuna squealed, her voice high-pitched with excitement.

Hayden hugged her, giving her a gentle pat on the head. I handed her the bouquet, then embraced her. โ€œCongratulations on your new beginning.โ€ Lena stepped forward, shaking Yunaโ€™s hand firmly. โ€œKeep pushing forwardโ€”your future awaits.โ€

Yuna nodded, tears filling her eyes. She had been so strong, even before surgery. But now, given a second chance, she allowed herself to cry. These weren't tears of fear, but tears of rebirth, like a newborn's first cry.

Half a month after Yunaโ€™s transplant, the amusement park was set to open. The invitation came from Wayne.

โ€œRea, youโ€™re not going to back out, are you?โ€ Wayne asked.

Iโ€™d made my decision. โ€œNo, I wonโ€™t.โ€

The park's opening also marked my farewellโ€”a farewell to RiverwayeCorp, to everything connected to Jace and our past. From now on, I would look only forward, leaving the past behind.

โ€œIs Jace going to be there?โ€ I asked. Since his return, he hadn't contacted me, and I had no idea what was happening. Even Lindey had fallen silent after that one phone call.

โ€œHe will,โ€ Wayne said confidently. It was Jaceโ€™s project, after all. When the RiverwaveCorp board opposed himโ€”suggesting the prime real estate be used for a resort or mallโ€”Jace had insisted on the amusement park. Even though he broke my heart, I felt grateful for this.

โ€œMy parents will be there too,โ€ Wayne added.

Hearing Matthew's name brought a wave of guilt. I'd visited him only twice since his illness.

โ€œHowโ€™s your dad doing?โ€ I asked.

โ€œHeโ€™s on targeted medication and doing okay. Mostly because he doesnโ€™t know how bad it really is, so his outlook remains positive,โ€ Wayne said, adjusting his glasses. โ€œThe doctor says he needs to avoid stress.โ€

I understood. Wayne was saying my distance was best. Seeing me would upset Matthew, hindering his recovery.

โ€œYouโ€™re looking pretty good lately,โ€ I said, attempting to lighten the mood.

Wayne gave a soft, self-deprecating laugh. โ€œNot too bad.โ€

We had little more to say, so I found an excuse to leave: Steve. He had messaged, asking me to stop by. Steve wasn't there, but his receptionist handed me an envelope containing two tickets to a game.

โ€œYou probably donโ€™t have time for this, right?โ€ I said to Hayden, attempting to sound casual, handing him the tickets.
