Chapter 431
Lena smiled. โSure.โ
โOh wow, that was fast. Did you even ask Prof. Neumann?โ I teased.
Lena waved it off. โDonโt ask.โ
I caught on immediately. โSooo, just the two of you tomorrow?โ
โYeah, but we wouldnโt mind a double date,โ Lena winked, turning to walk away.
Watching her leave, I knew she didnโt want Nate going anywhere, but sheโd never admit it. Stubborn, as always.
โWe should treat them to a nice dinner tomorrow. Maybe set up a littleโฆ surprise,โ I whispered to Hayden.
He blinked. โWhat surprise?โ
I leaned closer. โA luxury presidential suite.โ
Hayden didnโt go that far, but he did set up dinner at Seavoraโs fanciest restaurant. Classy move.
โMrs. Hart, you and your hubby are really pulling out all the stops,โ Lena laughed.
Ever since Hayden proposed, Lena had started calling me the future Mrs. Hart. It still made me blush.
โProf. Neumann saved Yunaโs life. This is the least we can do,โ Hayden said, nodding at Nate.
Nate, looking sharp in a tailored suit, was a far cry from his usual doctor vibes. But honestly, Hayden wasnโt looking too shabby either. Dressed to the nines, he reminded me of one of those broody CEOs from a TV drama.
Lena elbowed me. โDang, Hayden cleans up well. Almost dangerous.โ
โObviously! Who do you think picked it out?โ I grinned.
Dinner was a blast. Lena and I were eating, drinking, and joking around like we always did, keeping things fun. Nate, usually all seriousโprofessor modeโwas surprisingly chill. And Hayden, who was normally more quiet, was holding his own in conversations with Nate. The two of them were actually getting along really well.
โHaydenโs a gem. He knows everything,โ Lena said when we took a break to hit the restroom.
โDuh! I had to travel thousands of miles to find him,โ I joked as we washed our hands.
But when I looked up, I saw Jace walking out of the menโs room. Our eyes met, and the way he looked at me, it was like heโd overheard everything. His gaze lingered a little too long, making the air feel heavy.
Lena broke the tension. โMr. Johnston, fancy seeing you here.โ
Before I could say anything, my boss, Kylian, strolled out of the restroom too. Great. My ex and my boss? What are the odds?
Jace finally looked away and nodded at Kylian. โMr. Hart, after you.โ
Kylian saw me but didnโt say a word. He and Jace just washed up, dried their hands, and walked out together.
โWhatโs with Jace? Heโs like a ghost, always showing up wherever you are,โ Lena grumbled.
โProbably just a coincidence.โ
โHow do you know itโs a coincidence?โ Lena wasnโt buying it.
โThe guy he was with is my boss, Kylian Hart. His family has some business deals with Riverwave Corp, so itโs not that weird.โ
โOhh, makes sense. But didnโt Jace kinda vanish for a while?โ she asked, referring to his time out of the spotlight.
โYeah, but he still has to wrap up deals that no one else can close.โ
Jace had mentioned back when we were together that some companies and families are tough nuts to crack.
โJace is definitely a pro. In that department, heโs ahead of Hayden,โ Lena sighed. โIf only Hayden was a billionaire, then heโd be perfect.โ
โPlease. You know I donโt care about that stuff. Plus, itโs not like Iโm broke.โ
As we headed back to the private dining room, I spotted Hayden in the hallway. He was talking to someoneโKylian. At first, I thought it was just small talk, but then I overheard Kylian say, โWeโve kept the Johnstons waiting for six months now. Any longer, and itโll start looking suspicious.โ
