Chapter 442

Bradโ€™s face went full tomato at my comment. โ€œQuit talking about wolves or puppies or whatever. Donโ€™t insult me. Weโ€™re even now, okay? Itโ€™s in the past.โ€

Watching him squirm, trying to keep his cool, had me grinning. I took a step forward, and he immediately backed up, arms crossed as if I was about to throw hands. I snorted. โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong? Scared Iโ€™ll actually do something? Chill out. Iโ€™m just curious why youโ€™re suddenly playing nice.โ€

โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong with that? Or were you hoping Iโ€™d stillโ€”โ€ He stopped himself mid-sentence. โ€œDonโ€™t even try to bait me. And stop coming any closer, or Iโ€™ll record this forโ€ฆevidence.โ€

I rolled my eyes at his empty threat. โ€œSure. Now spill. What did Wayne do to get you all obedient like this?โ€

His eyes darted around, avoiding mine. โ€œI have no idea what youโ€™re talking about. Now move, Iโ€™ve got places to be.โ€

I stuck my leg out, blocking his path. โ€œCut the act. I know youโ€™re working for him. Why else would you turn on your own sister?โ€

His face turned beet red again, this time from something other than embarrassment. I gave him a quick once-over. Head-to-toe designer. Sure, back when Tanya was maxing out Jaceโ€™s credit cards, it made sense, but now? No way he was affording all this on his own. Definitely Wayneโ€™s money.

Brad and Tanya were the ultimate freeloading siblings, sucking up everything the Johnstons had to offer. โ€œIf you want answers, go ask Wayne yourself,โ€ Brad snapped, clearly over me. He wasnโ€™t going to crack. Wayne had definitely warned him to stay quiet.

I smirked. โ€œAll that crap you pulled on me before? I didnโ€™t really care. Figured you were just a bored kid acting out. But I never thought youโ€™d throw your own sister under the bus. Thatโ€™s a new low, even for you.โ€

My words hit hard. His eyes flared, and he jabbed a finger at me. โ€œSay that again.โ€

I raised an eyebrow. โ€œAm I wrong?โ€

He clenched his jaw, but dropped his hand, too rattled to come up with a comeback. I wasnโ€™t wasting any more time on him. Lifeโ€™s too short to deal with Brad-level drama. So I turned on my heel and started walking away.

โ€œWhere are you going? What are you planning to do?โ€ Brad, realizing I was headed toward Tanya, rushed to catch up. โ€œIโ€™m gonna have a little chat with your sister.โ€

His whole vibe shifted. โ€œYouโ€™ve already done enough to her! What more do you want?โ€ No matter what, he was still her brother. Blood runs deep, even when itโ€™s a mess.

โ€œYou really think we did this to her?โ€ I shot back. โ€œYou should be more worried about her biting her own tongue with all those lies.โ€

He opened his mouth, but nothing came out. I continued, โ€œTanyaโ€™s in this situation because of her own choices. If you actually care, maybe try talking some sense into her. Stop enabling her.โ€

Brad ran his hand through his hair, looking completely lost. โ€œItโ€™s too late for that. Sheโ€™s gone too far.โ€ โ€œSo, what, just because sheโ€™s stuck, sheโ€™s gonna drag everyone else down with her?โ€

Bradโ€™s lips twisted like a pouty kid. โ€œI canโ€™t control her, but I swear, youโ€™re not gonna hurt her.โ€

โ€œShe wonโ€™t get hurt if she stops making a mess of things,โ€ I said, stepping forward. โ€œNow, move.โ€

He hesitated for a second, but eventually stepped aside, letting me pass. I didnโ€™t even look back as I headed straight for Tanyaโ€™s hospital room.

When I walked in, she was sitting up in bed, eyes glued to the TV. Not that she was really watching. She didnโ€™t even look at me when I entered. The TV was showing a womenโ€™s table tennis match, and one of my favorite players was on.

โ€œYouโ€™re into table tennis too? Wow, didnโ€™t realize we shared a taste in both sports and guys,โ€ I said, sarcasm dripping.

Finally, she turned to look at me. Her eyes flickeredโ€”surprise, maybe a little fearโ€”but she quickly shifted back to her signature smug expression.
