Chapter 45
Demi had taken the video from the highest point. Through it, I saw the amusement park, all lit up. It didn't look too bad, but the base color of the lights was completely different from the design plan. Originally, the lights were supposed to be a gradient of blue, like the ocean at night turning into dawn. Now, it was just a solid blueโa deep, heavy blue. The color was rich, but it lacked soul.
โDemi, this is the overall view,โ I asked. โAny idea if itโs a construction issue or a problem with the lighting supplier? Have you talked to both parties? What did they say?โ
โThe construction team insists they followed the specs, and the manufacturer says the lights meet our requirements,โ Demi replied, clearly frustrated. โNo oneโs admitting fault, so Iโm totally clueless about where the problem is.โ
โKeira, please come back,โ Demi pleaded. โI canโt handle this alone, and I know you donโt want this kind of mess for the amusement park youโve put so much effort into.โ
โOkay, Iโll come back,โ I agreed without hesitation.
After ending the call, I booked a flight. Soon after, Demi sent me detailed aerial footage, and it was clear the problems were serious. Early the next morning, I packed my bags for my nine o'clock flight.
โKeira, youโre up so early. Yoga again?โ Macy asked, seeing me. For the past few days, Iโd been practicing yoga in the yard, and Macy always warned me not to hurt myself.
โNo, Iโm leaving,โ I said, walking up to her.
Macy was stunned. โBut you said youโd stay longer,โ she mumbled.
โThereโs a problem with a project at my company that I need to handle,โ I explained. โOnce itโs sorted out, I might come back to visit you,โ I added, though I wasnโt making any promises. Iโd be leaving Jaceโs company, but I still needed to work to support myself.
โGo ahead,โ she said. โEveryone leaves eventually. Except for me, who canโt go anywhere.โ Her words resonated deeply.
Then a bold idea sparked. โWhy donโt you come with me?โ
Macy was surprised. โYou want to take me with you?โ
โYeah, come see the bustling city of Seavora,โ I said with a genuine smile, excited at the thought. Over the past few days, sheโd started feeling like a grandmother to me.
Macy shook her head. โI canโt go. Iโm too old, my legs are weak, and Iโd only slow you down.โ
โYou wouldnโt be a burden, Macy. Please, just for a few days,โ I begged, clutching her arm.
She gave me a soft look. โThanks for thinking of me, but Iโm staying here. If you ever have time, come back and visit.โ
Her words stung my eyes. I hugged her tight. โMacy, Iโll miss you.โ
โMiss me? You should be thinking about Hayden,โ Macy said, breaking my sentimental moment. โHeโs such a good guy, and you drove him away.โ
โDid Hayden leave because I rejected him? Because I donโt like him that way?โ
Before I could answer, Macy patted my hand. โKeira, Hayden is a good guy. Think it over.โ
โAlright,โ I agreed.
