Chapter 45

Demi had taken the video from the highest point. Through it, I saw the amusement park, all lit up. It didn't look too bad, but the base color of the lights was completely different from the design plan. Originally, the lights were supposed to be a gradient of blue, like the ocean at night turning into dawn. Now, it was just a solid blueโ€”a deep, heavy blue. The color was rich, but it lacked soul.

โ€œDemi, this is the overall view,โ€ I asked. โ€œAny idea if itโ€™s a construction issue or a problem with the lighting supplier? Have you talked to both parties? What did they say?โ€

โ€œThe construction team insists they followed the specs, and the manufacturer says the lights meet our requirements,โ€ Demi replied, clearly frustrated. โ€œNo oneโ€™s admitting fault, so Iโ€™m totally clueless about where the problem is.โ€

โ€œKeira, please come back,โ€ Demi pleaded. โ€œI canโ€™t handle this alone, and I know you donโ€™t want this kind of mess for the amusement park youโ€™ve put so much effort into.โ€

โ€œOkay, Iโ€™ll come back,โ€ I agreed without hesitation.

After ending the call, I booked a flight. Soon after, Demi sent me detailed aerial footage, and it was clear the problems were serious. Early the next morning, I packed my bags for my nine o'clock flight.

โ€œKeira, youโ€™re up so early. Yoga again?โ€ Macy asked, seeing me. For the past few days, Iโ€™d been practicing yoga in the yard, and Macy always warned me not to hurt myself.

โ€œNo, Iโ€™m leaving,โ€ I said, walking up to her.

Macy was stunned. โ€œBut you said youโ€™d stay longer,โ€ she mumbled.

โ€œThereโ€™s a problem with a project at my company that I need to handle,โ€ I explained. โ€œOnce itโ€™s sorted out, I might come back to visit you,โ€ I added, though I wasnโ€™t making any promises. Iโ€™d be leaving Jaceโ€™s company, but I still needed to work to support myself.

โ€œGo ahead,โ€ she said. โ€œEveryone leaves eventually. Except for me, who canโ€™t go anywhere.โ€ Her words resonated deeply.

Then a bold idea sparked. โ€œWhy donโ€™t you come with me?โ€

Macy was surprised. โ€œYou want to take me with you?โ€

โ€œYeah, come see the bustling city of Seavora,โ€ I said with a genuine smile, excited at the thought. Over the past few days, sheโ€™d started feeling like a grandmother to me.

Macy shook her head. โ€œI canโ€™t go. Iโ€™m too old, my legs are weak, and Iโ€™d only slow you down.โ€

โ€œYou wouldnโ€™t be a burden, Macy. Please, just for a few days,โ€ I begged, clutching her arm.

She gave me a soft look. โ€œThanks for thinking of me, but Iโ€™m staying here. If you ever have time, come back and visit.โ€

Her words stung my eyes. I hugged her tight. โ€œMacy, Iโ€™ll miss you.โ€

โ€œMiss me? You should be thinking about Hayden,โ€ Macy said, breaking my sentimental moment. โ€œHeโ€™s such a good guy, and you drove him away.โ€

โ€œDid Hayden leave because I rejected him? Because I donโ€™t like him that way?โ€

Before I could answer, Macy patted my hand. โ€œKeira, Hayden is a good guy. Think it over.โ€

โ€œAlright,โ€ I agreed.
