Chapter 483

Ron never called out mistakes directly. He had this way of giving low-key, feel-good reminders that made you want to do better without feeling weird about it. Thatโ€™s why he was our superior. Heโ€™d joke around all day, barely looking like he was working, but somehow, everyone else was always hustling to keep up.

I played along, smiling. โ€œIf I slowed down, Iโ€™d feel guilty, letting you down.โ€

He chuckled. โ€œBut I never put any pressure on you. Besides, workโ€™s endless. No need to rush.โ€

Ronโ€™s the first boss Iโ€™ve met who doesnโ€™t want you to stress yourself out. Kinda rare.

Since he was being nice, I couldnโ€™t exactly turn him down without coming off rude, so I smiled and said, โ€œAlright, Iโ€™ll keep that in mind.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™ve lost a lot of weight lately. Are you sure youโ€™re okay?โ€ He didnโ€™t even glance at the stack of documents Iโ€™d handed him, like he was more interested in a random chat.

We werenโ€™t close or anything, but ever since we met, he acted like we were old pals. Still, I kept things professional. โ€œIโ€™m fine, really.โ€

โ€œFine? You look like youโ€™ve been in a vampire flickโ€”pale and all,โ€ he joked, shaking his head before pulling out a neatly wrapped gift box from his desk. โ€œHere, this is from a client. Supposed to boost energy or something. You should try it.โ€

I looked at the box, raising an eyebrow. โ€œThis looks like something for women. Youโ€™re sure itโ€™s for you?โ€

For once, Ron actually seemed a little embarrassed, giving me an awkward grin. โ€œHaha, yeah, they probably thought I had a girlfriend. But as you know, Iโ€™m single as ever.โ€

He was always spinning some kind of story, but I appreciated the gesture. No need to call him out. โ€œThanks. Guess I owe you lunch now.โ€

โ€œDeal! Donโ€™t forget, or Iโ€™ll track you down.โ€ He winked, making it sound more like a casual hang than any real obligation.

โ€œOkay,โ€ I agreed, noting he wasnโ€™t exactly rushing to sign. No point pushing it if heโ€™d already said the work never ends.

โ€œTake your time with the signatures. Just let me know if you have questions.โ€ I placed the candy Iโ€™d promised him earlier on his desk.

He looked at the candy, a bit amused. โ€œYou actually brought it.โ€

โ€œOf course. I try to keep my word,โ€ I replied, picking up the gift box and heading out.

Night before closing time, Ron strolled over with the signed docs. โ€œMs. Kay, sorry for the delay. Hope it didnโ€™t cause any issues?โ€

Even though he was the boss, his relaxed vibe did tend to slow things down sometimes. I couldnโ€™t help itโ€”I had to say something. โ€œCan it even be a delay if youโ€™re the one holding things up?โ€

Ron laughed. โ€œOuch, noted, Ms. Kay. Iโ€™ll work on it. Dinner tonight to make it up?โ€

Chapter 484

โ€œTonightโ€™s no good, Iโ€™ve got something planned,โ€ I said, remembering I needed to catch up with Steve on video.

โ€œNo problem, another time.โ€ He shrugged it off like it was no big deal.

โ€œSorry, Mr. Shane,โ€ I apologized, feeling a little guilty since I had offered him a meal earlier.

โ€œApology not accepted. Now you owe me two meals,โ€ he grinned, making it impossible to feel bad.

I laughed. โ€œDeal.โ€

After delivering the signed docs, I clocked out, only to run into Ron and Hayden as I left. The timing wasโ€ฆodd.

Part of me wondered if this was planned, but then I rememberedโ€”Hayden and I werenโ€™t exactly on speaking terms anymore. Why would he bother?

In the elevator, the tension was thick, like it had been all day. Neither of us said a word.

Ron, being Ron, broke the silence. โ€œMs. Kay, youโ€™re looking way better than this morning, donโ€™t you think, Hayden?โ€ He nudged Hayden, who stayed quiet, his eyes fixed on me.

Ron laughed, totally oblivious to the awkwardness. โ€œThat supplement really works! Hayden should get the client to send over more.โ€

I froze. Waitโ€”did that mean the gift box Ron gave me was actually from Hayden?
