Chapter 508

Sasha looked differentโ€”angry, like she was holding back something big. It was honestly kinda scary to see her like this. I swallowed. โ€œIf you hate him this much, and you know what heโ€™s doneโ€ฆ then whyโ€ฆ?โ€ I left the question hanging. I didnโ€™t know what sheโ€™d even want out of this anymore.

The bitterness in Sashaโ€™s voice said it all. That kind of angerโ€”youโ€™d think sheโ€™d have walked away before bringing a child into it. A kid would only tie her closer to Thorsten, making it nearly impossible to get away. And yet, sheโ€™d still had Milly.

Sasha caught my thoughts, sighing. โ€œYouโ€™re wondering why I kept her, right?โ€

I nodded, glancing over at Milly playing innocently across the room. โ€œIf things really fall apart between you twoโ€ฆ what about her? Sheโ€™s done nothing wrong.โ€

Sashaโ€™s face twisted as she downed her wine, pain flashing through her eyes. โ€œYou think I wanted to have her?โ€

I felt this ache in my chest, watching her.

โ€œWhen I was just a few weeks along, he forced a doctor to tell him the babyโ€™s gender,โ€ she muttered, rolling her eyes. โ€œWhen he found out it was a girl, he hired six maidsโ€”not to help me, but to watch me.โ€

I was stunned. โ€œSoโ€ฆ you didnโ€™t want to have her?โ€

โ€œNot after how he forced me to stay,โ€ she said, glancing at Milly. โ€œIf sheโ€™d been a boy, we wouldnโ€™t even be having this conversation.โ€

The realization hit me like a truck. My eyes dropped to her stomach. โ€œWaitโ€ฆ youโ€™re pregnant again?โ€

Sasha gave me a wry smile, holding up her thumb. โ€œSharp as ever.โ€

Not exactly the compliment Iโ€™d wanted. I looked at her seriously. โ€œThorsten doesnโ€™t want this baby, does he? Heโ€™s forcing you to get rid of it?โ€

โ€œHeโ€™s bringing someone over tomorrow to โ€˜take care of it,โ€™ apparently,โ€ Sasha muttered, reaching for the wine bottle again.

I put my hand over hers. โ€œSasha, you shouldnโ€™t drink. Youโ€™re pregnant.โ€

โ€œDoes it matter? Itโ€™s not like I get to keep it,โ€ she said, gesturing bitterly at her stomach.

Sheโ€™d just told me how Thorsten had forced her to carry Milly to term, even though she hadnโ€™t wanted to. Now he was forcing her to get rid of this baby, and yetโ€ฆ she seemed torn. She was so conflicted.

โ€œDo you want to keep this baby?โ€

Her gaze drifted back to Milly, and she went quiet. After a long moment, her voice softened. โ€œI want Milly to have someone. A sibling. Someone whoโ€™s hers.โ€

Her words were heavy, and suddenly I got it.

Chapter 500

Sasha wasnโ€™t planning to stick around forever. She was just waiting, biding her time until she could take Thorsten down with her.

I looked at her, feeling a new sense of respect. She wasnโ€™t here for money or an easy life, and she definitely wasnโ€™t letting go of her anger just to make things smoother.

โ€œYou could try reasoning with him,โ€ I suggested.

She shook her head. โ€œItโ€™s pointless. When I was pregnant with Milly, he made it clear that everything he owns is meant for his son. No one else can threaten that.โ€

โ€œBut Millyโ€™s his daughter. And this babyโ€ฆโ€ Frustration crept into my voice.

โ€œIt doesnโ€™t matter.โ€ She looked at me, her eyes hard. โ€œHeโ€™s not calling the shots.โ€

I frowned. โ€œThenโ€ฆ who is?โ€

She poured herself another glass, her jaw tight. โ€œItโ€™s his wife. She knows about all his โ€˜extrasโ€™ on the side but has one rule: no other kids.โ€

โ€œBut Milly-โ€
