Chapter 508
Sasha looked differentโangry, like she was holding back something big. It was honestly kinda scary to see her like this. I swallowed. โIf you hate him this much, and you know what heโs doneโฆ then whyโฆ?โ I left the question hanging. I didnโt know what sheโd even want out of this anymore.
The bitterness in Sashaโs voice said it all. That kind of angerโyouโd think sheโd have walked away before bringing a child into it. A kid would only tie her closer to Thorsten, making it nearly impossible to get away. And yet, sheโd still had Milly.
Sasha caught my thoughts, sighing. โYouโre wondering why I kept her, right?โ
I nodded, glancing over at Milly playing innocently across the room. โIf things really fall apart between you twoโฆ what about her? Sheโs done nothing wrong.โ
Sashaโs face twisted as she downed her wine, pain flashing through her eyes. โYou think I wanted to have her?โ
I felt this ache in my chest, watching her.
โWhen I was just a few weeks along, he forced a doctor to tell him the babyโs gender,โ she muttered, rolling her eyes. โWhen he found out it was a girl, he hired six maidsโnot to help me, but to watch me.โ
I was stunned. โSoโฆ you didnโt want to have her?โ
โNot after how he forced me to stay,โ she said, glancing at Milly. โIf sheโd been a boy, we wouldnโt even be having this conversation.โ
The realization hit me like a truck. My eyes dropped to her stomach. โWaitโฆ youโre pregnant again?โ
Sasha gave me a wry smile, holding up her thumb. โSharp as ever.โ
Not exactly the compliment Iโd wanted. I looked at her seriously. โThorsten doesnโt want this baby, does he? Heโs forcing you to get rid of it?โ
โHeโs bringing someone over tomorrow to โtake care of it,โ apparently,โ Sasha muttered, reaching for the wine bottle again.
I put my hand over hers. โSasha, you shouldnโt drink. Youโre pregnant.โ
โDoes it matter? Itโs not like I get to keep it,โ she said, gesturing bitterly at her stomach.
Sheโd just told me how Thorsten had forced her to carry Milly to term, even though she hadnโt wanted to. Now he was forcing her to get rid of this baby, and yetโฆ she seemed torn. She was so conflicted.
โDo you want to keep this baby?โ
Her gaze drifted back to Milly, and she went quiet. After a long moment, her voice softened. โI want Milly to have someone. A sibling. Someone whoโs hers.โ
Her words were heavy, and suddenly I got it.
Chapter 500
Sasha wasnโt planning to stick around forever. She was just waiting, biding her time until she could take Thorsten down with her.
I looked at her, feeling a new sense of respect. She wasnโt here for money or an easy life, and she definitely wasnโt letting go of her anger just to make things smoother.
โYou could try reasoning with him,โ I suggested.
She shook her head. โItโs pointless. When I was pregnant with Milly, he made it clear that everything he owns is meant for his son. No one else can threaten that.โ
โBut Millyโs his daughter. And this babyโฆโ Frustration crept into my voice.
โIt doesnโt matter.โ She looked at me, her eyes hard. โHeโs not calling the shots.โ
I frowned. โThenโฆ who is?โ
She poured herself another glass, her jaw tight. โItโs his wife. She knows about all his โextrasโ on the side but has one rule: no other kids.โ
โBut Milly-โ
