Chapter 523

I kept my eyes on her, but suddenly, Sashaโ€™s face started to blur. I shook my head, about to say something, when she spoke first.

โ€œIt wasnโ€™t his wifeโ€™s dream this time. He said he wanted to meet you.โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ The word barely left my lips before everything went completely fuzzy.

Next thing I knew, I felt Sashaโ€™s arm around me, her voice soft. โ€œJust rest for a bit.โ€

Rest? A little voice inside me questioned, but I couldnโ€™t even open my mouth to respond. My eyelids felt heavy as lead, and I couldnโ€™t speak. I felt myself being lifted, then placed in a car, though where they were taking me, I had no idea.

At some point, someone held a cup of water to my lips. I drank, blinking my eyes open to see a tall, unfamiliar man. But I knew himโ€”one of Thorstenโ€™s bodyguards.

Remembering Sashaโ€™s last words before I blacked out, everything started to click. I shifted groggily and asked the man, โ€œWhereโ€™s Thorsten?โ€

He ignored me, turning to leave.

Thatโ€™s when I realized my hands and feet were bound, leaving me pretty much stuck. I glanced around, trying to get my bearings. The place looked like an old, abandoned repair shop, with stacks of worn-out tires piled nearby.

It wasnโ€™t hard to piece together why Thorsten had me here. He didnโ€™t want me digging around in his past. Whatever he had planned, it wasnโ€™t good.

Panic washed over me. I wasnโ€™t some fearless hero; the thought of death scared me, and my heart hammered with dread.

But I forced myself to breathe. There was a reason theyโ€™d just tied me up instead of going further. The bodyguard had even given me water, which meant Thorsten likely wanted to talk first.

Sure enough, a few minutes later, I heard a car engine outside, followed by the bodyguardโ€™s respectful greeting: โ€œBoss.โ€

The door creaked open, and Thorsten stepped in, dressed head-to-toe in white.

โ€œKeira, we meet again,โ€ he said with a smile.

I didnโ€™t flinch. โ€œThis isnโ€™t exactly my idea of a pleasant reunion.โ€

He chuckled, stepping closer. โ€œThen whyโ€™d you insist on provoking me, hmm?โ€ He settled into a chair his bodyguard brought over, his eyes locked on mine.

โ€œIf you hadnโ€™t harmed my family first, why would I ever need to provoke you?โ€ I shot back, Sashaโ€™s warnings echoing in my mind.

Thorsten just smiled, calm as ever. โ€œSo, you finally figured it out. Doesnโ€™t matter now, though.โ€

He looked totally unfazed, like this whole situation was just a small inconvenience.

โ€œWhat do you mean, it doesnโ€™t matter?โ€ My voice shook. โ€œAre you admitting you paid someone to commit murder?โ€

โ€œOf course,โ€ he said casually, like he was talking about the weather. โ€œI paid off your parentsโ€™ driver. He tampered with the brakes.โ€

A chill shot through me. The way he spoke, so cold and detachedโ€”like those three lives meant absolutely nothing to him.

โ€œWhy?โ€ I whispered. โ€œWhy would you do that?โ€

He shrugged, smirking. โ€œNo real reason. Maybe I was in a certain mood that day. You know how I amโ€”my emotions can beโ€ฆ unpredictable.โ€

He couldnโ€™t expect me to believe that. No matter how twisted he was, there had to be something deeper, something he wasnโ€™t saying.

While I struggled to piece it together, he shook his head at me. โ€œI warned you, didnโ€™t I? Told you to let your parentsโ€™ death rest, to focus on your own life. But you just couldnโ€™t, could you?โ€

I met his gaze, a defiant smile tugging at my lips. โ€œIโ€™m a human being. I have blood, flesh, feelings. I canโ€™t just turn off my grief for my parents.โ€

He sneered. โ€œAll that grief has done is lead you straight to your own grave.โ€

His words were ice-cold, but I refused to let him shake me. โ€œYouโ€™re making it sound like Iโ€™m not getting out of here alive. If thatโ€™s the case, then at least let me die with some answers. Why did you kill my parents? What threat could they have possibly posed to you?โ€
