Chapter 633

I gripped the admission letter, heading to find Yuna. She was a kindergarten teacher now, surrounded by little giggling kids. Her laughter mixed with theirs, so bright and full of life it was hard not to smile.

For a second, I froze. Was this really the right move? Pushing her to go back to school when she seemed so happy here?

โ€œKeira!โ€ Yuna called, jogging over once the kids were settled. Her cheeks were flushed, and sweat dotted her forehead and nose. โ€œIf you hadnโ€™t come today, I was totally about to hunt you down this weekend!โ€

I handed her a tissue, shaking my head. โ€œYouโ€™ve been running around like crazy. Are you sure youโ€™re feeling okay? No weird pains or anything?โ€

โ€œNot a thing! I feel amazing,โ€ she said with a bright smile, pressing a hand over her chest. โ€œThis heart feels like itโ€™s really mine nowโ€”itโ€™s been so good to me.โ€

Her words made me think of Narelle and Wade, and all the complicated feelings Wade couldnโ€™t quite put into words.

โ€œSo, you and Wade?โ€ I asked, jumping right in.

Yuna was caught off guard, her cheeks turning a shade that could rival a strawberry. โ€œItโ€™sโ€ฆ still the same,โ€ she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.

โ€œYuna,โ€ I said softly, โ€œI know you think Wadeโ€™s amazing, but someday, youโ€™re going to meet other incredible people, andโ€ฆ you might see things differently.โ€ I wasnโ€™t trying to kill her crush, just giving her a little reality check.

If Wadeโ€™s feelings were only tied to the heart she now carried, I couldnโ€™t bear the thought of how much it might hurt her if she ever found out.

โ€œThat wonโ€™t happen,โ€ Yuna said firmly, her gaze locking on mine. โ€œI like Wade, not because of his looks or how smart he is, but becauseโ€ฆโ€

She trailed off, shaking her head with a small, almost dreamy smile. โ€œBecause from the moment I met him, it felt like Iโ€™d known him forever. Like, in some past life or something. Thereโ€™s this connection I just canโ€™t explain.โ€

Her words made my eyes drift to her chest. She and Wade had only met after her surgeryโ€”after her heart transplant.

Could this bond she felt with him come from the heart itself?

The thought gave me chills. It sounded ridiculous. A heart was just an organ, a pump. Yuna was Yunaโ€”her own person with her own feelings. But still, what she saidโ€ฆ it didnโ€™t fit into neat little boxes.

โ€œKeira?โ€ Yunaโ€™s voice pulled me back. โ€œYou donโ€™t like Wade, do you?โ€ Her eyes searched mine. โ€œOr do you think heโ€™s not good for me?โ€

โ€œNo, itโ€™s not that,โ€ I said quickly, hoping to ease the tension. โ€œIโ€™m just worried youโ€™re rushing into this. Youโ€™re still young, Yuna. What if later, you meet the person youโ€™re really meant to be with and regret falling so hard so fast?โ€

Before she could respond, I reached into my bag and pulled out the admission letter, holding it out to her.

Her eyes widened as they locked on the logo and the name on the envelope. โ€œWaitโ€ฆ is thisโ€”?โ€

I grinned and motioned for her to open it. โ€œGo ahead. See for yourself.โ€

She tore open the envelope, her eyes going wide as she saw her name printed in bold. โ€œThisโ€ฆ this is for me? My nameโ€™s on it!โ€

โ€œYep, itโ€™s all yours. Congrats, Yunaโ€”youโ€™re officially a student at Kelhmark Royal Academy,โ€ I said, holding out my hand with a grin.

Yuna stared at the letter in disbelief before throwing herself into my arms, wrapping her arms tightly around my neck. โ€œI got into KRA! This isnโ€™t a dream, right? Tell me Iโ€™m not dreaming!โ€

Her laugh came out choked, half-sob, half-joy, and a few nearby kids started staring. I patted her back. โ€œNot a dream. Itโ€™s real, Yuna. Youโ€™re going to KRA. But, uh, maybe dial it down a notch? Your students are starting to look worried.โ€

She hugged me even tighter, practically vibrating with excitement, and then out of nowhere, she blurted, โ€œKeira, tell Hayden I love him to death!โ€

I froze. Wait. What? Did she think this was Haydenโ€™s doing?

โ€œHayden told me this year, no matter what, Iโ€™d get into KRA,โ€ she explained, her voice full of quiet certainty.

Heโ€™d made her a promise, and somehow, I ended up keeping it for him.

A bittersweet smile tugged at my lips. โ€œHayden always kept his word,โ€ I said softly.

โ€œI havenโ€™t talked to him in forever,โ€ Yuna said, her excitement dimming into something gentler, more nostalgic. โ€œCall him for me, Keira. Thereโ€™s something I want to tell him.โ€

Her request hit me like a punch to the gut.
