Chapter 676

โ€œRea, whatโ€™s with the wheelchair?โ€ Jaceโ€™s voice cut through the chatter.

I turned to see him walking over with Aaron. Jace rocked a crisp white shirt, while Aaron was in all black. Total opposites, but together? They had that annoying โ€œmain character energyโ€ that turned heads.

โ€œWow, look at that,โ€ Lena muttered. โ€œEveryone decided to show up today.โ€

No kidding. All this fuss over a light show? Wild. But I knew why Lena was snippyโ€”Aaron. Sheโ€™d rather choke on her coffee than deal with him, but since he was a client here for the event, we had to play nice.

Jace came up fast, his eyes locking on my legs. โ€œWhere are you hurt?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s just a scraped knee. Chill, Iโ€™m fine,โ€ I said, trying to downplay it.

Jace wasnโ€™t buying it. โ€œYeah, sure. Totally fine in a wheelchair?โ€

Lena jumped in before I could answer. โ€œOh, thatโ€™s on your brother. He freaked out, said if she didnโ€™t use the chair, heโ€™d carry her instead. So, here we are.โ€

She smirked, totally owning the moment. Jaceโ€™s face darkened, but Lena? She couldnโ€™t care less. She still held a grudge over, wellโ€ฆ everything. And she never passed up a chance to twist the knife.

โ€œActually,โ€ she added with a sly smile, โ€œthe chairโ€™s pretty handy. Itโ€™s great for her recovery. You know, your brotherโ€™s way ahead of you in the โ€˜thoughtful and caringโ€™ department.โ€

Mic drop.

Jaceโ€™s jaw clenched, and from the corner of my eye, I caught Aaron smirking like he was enjoying the drama. He stepped forward. โ€œSo, where are you ladies off to?โ€

โ€œTo check out some eye candy,โ€ Lena shot back, all sass, before wheeling me toward the backstage area.

The light show tonight wasnโ€™t just about techโ€”it had a live segment with male models decked out in glowing body art. As soon as we rolled in, the models were already lined up. Their matching costumes made them almost blend together, but Lenaโ€™s eagle eye zeroed in.

โ€œHoly abs. Every one of them is a walking thirst trap,โ€ she whispered, practically gawking.

โ€œMaybe focus on their faces instead of their six-packs,โ€ I reminded her.

โ€œYeah, but I canโ€™t see them properly from here. Can we get closer?โ€ She craned her neck like a meerkat.

Before we could, a no-nonsense stage manager swooped in. โ€œWhat are you doing here? Backstage is off-limits. Out!โ€

โ€œIโ€™m Keira Kay from OceanixCorp,โ€ I said, calm but firm. โ€œIโ€™m here to check on the models.โ€

That shut him up fast. Perks of being the one signing the checks.

โ€œTheyโ€™re about to go on, so make it quick,โ€ he huffed, stepping aside. Lena took that as the cue to wheel me closer, practically buzzing with excitement.

Chapter 675

The male models immediately straightened when they noticed us. I scanned the lineup, trying to stay professional, untilโ€”

โ€œHayden?!โ€ Lena blurted when her eyes landed on one of them.

โ€œHis nameโ€™s Xander.โ€ My gaze stayed locked on the guy with Haydenโ€™s face, my pulse hammering.

Lena shook her head. โ€œIf thatโ€™s not Hayden, Iโ€™ve officially seen a ghost. Theyโ€™re identical.โ€

I couldnโ€™t disagree. I felt the same way.

โ€œBut he says heโ€™s not. If you donโ€™t believe me, go ask him yourself,โ€ I said, hoping Lena might figure out what I couldnโ€™t.

Without hesitation, she let go of the wheelchair and stomped right up to Xander. โ€œHayden, did you really change your name and start a whole new life?โ€

โ€œMiss, my name is Xander. I donโ€™t know this Hayden youโ€™re talking about.โ€ His tone was smooth, steady.

Lena whipped around, her jaw droppingโ€”totally thrown off by his voice. It wasnโ€™t Haydenโ€™s. Not even close.

โ€œHayden, donโ€™t think you can fool me with some fancy voice trick!โ€ Lena shot back, reaching toward his Adamโ€™s apple like she was about to test for some kind of hidden tech.

Xander dodged her hand effortlessly. โ€œIf youโ€™ve got something to say, just say it. No touching.โ€
