Chapter 676
โRea, whatโs with the wheelchair?โ Jaceโs voice cut through the chatter.
I turned to see him walking over with Aaron. Jace rocked a crisp white shirt, while Aaron was in all black. Total opposites, but together? They had that annoying โmain character energyโ that turned heads.
โWow, look at that,โ Lena muttered. โEveryone decided to show up today.โ
No kidding. All this fuss over a light show? Wild. But I knew why Lena was snippyโAaron. Sheโd rather choke on her coffee than deal with him, but since he was a client here for the event, we had to play nice.
Jace came up fast, his eyes locking on my legs. โWhere are you hurt?โ
โItโs just a scraped knee. Chill, Iโm fine,โ I said, trying to downplay it.
Jace wasnโt buying it. โYeah, sure. Totally fine in a wheelchair?โ
Lena jumped in before I could answer. โOh, thatโs on your brother. He freaked out, said if she didnโt use the chair, heโd carry her instead. So, here we are.โ
She smirked, totally owning the moment. Jaceโs face darkened, but Lena? She couldnโt care less. She still held a grudge over, wellโฆ everything. And she never passed up a chance to twist the knife.
โActually,โ she added with a sly smile, โthe chairโs pretty handy. Itโs great for her recovery. You know, your brotherโs way ahead of you in the โthoughtful and caringโ department.โ
Mic drop.
Jaceโs jaw clenched, and from the corner of my eye, I caught Aaron smirking like he was enjoying the drama. He stepped forward. โSo, where are you ladies off to?โ
โTo check out some eye candy,โ Lena shot back, all sass, before wheeling me toward the backstage area.
The light show tonight wasnโt just about techโit had a live segment with male models decked out in glowing body art. As soon as we rolled in, the models were already lined up. Their matching costumes made them almost blend together, but Lenaโs eagle eye zeroed in.
โHoly abs. Every one of them is a walking thirst trap,โ she whispered, practically gawking.
โMaybe focus on their faces instead of their six-packs,โ I reminded her.
โYeah, but I canโt see them properly from here. Can we get closer?โ She craned her neck like a meerkat.
Before we could, a no-nonsense stage manager swooped in. โWhat are you doing here? Backstage is off-limits. Out!โ
โIโm Keira Kay from OceanixCorp,โ I said, calm but firm. โIโm here to check on the models.โ
That shut him up fast. Perks of being the one signing the checks.
โTheyโre about to go on, so make it quick,โ he huffed, stepping aside. Lena took that as the cue to wheel me closer, practically buzzing with excitement.
Chapter 675
The male models immediately straightened when they noticed us. I scanned the lineup, trying to stay professional, untilโ
โHayden?!โ Lena blurted when her eyes landed on one of them.
โHis nameโs Xander.โ My gaze stayed locked on the guy with Haydenโs face, my pulse hammering.
Lena shook her head. โIf thatโs not Hayden, Iโve officially seen a ghost. Theyโre identical.โ
I couldnโt disagree. I felt the same way.
โBut he says heโs not. If you donโt believe me, go ask him yourself,โ I said, hoping Lena might figure out what I couldnโt.
Without hesitation, she let go of the wheelchair and stomped right up to Xander. โHayden, did you really change your name and start a whole new life?โ
โMiss, my name is Xander. I donโt know this Hayden youโre talking about.โ His tone was smooth, steady.
Lena whipped around, her jaw droppingโtotally thrown off by his voice. It wasnโt Haydenโs. Not even close.
โHayden, donโt think you can fool me with some fancy voice trick!โ Lena shot back, reaching toward his Adamโs apple like she was about to test for some kind of hidden tech.
Xander dodged her hand effortlessly. โIf youโve got something to say, just say it. No touching.โ
