Chapter 677

Lena flashed a sly grin. โ€œWow, so uptight. Wonโ€™t even let me touch you, huh, handsome?โ€

Xander didnโ€™t miss a beat. โ€œApologies, miss. Weโ€™re performers, not escorts. Please behave yourself.โ€ His voice was firm but polite.

She raised an eyebrow but knew when to back off. โ€œAlright, Mr. Manners.โ€ Still, she wasnโ€™t done grilling him. โ€œHow old are you?โ€

โ€œTwenty-nine.โ€

Lena nodded, tilting her head as she studied him. โ€œAnd your height?โ€

โ€œSix feet and a quarter inch.โ€

She squinted, clearly calculating his proportions. โ€œCollege?โ€

โ€œYes,โ€ he said without hesitation. โ€œWellington Institute of Technology. I majored in Artificial Intelligence.โ€

Lena clicked her tongue, her expression practically screaming what a waste. โ€œAIโ€™s a big deal these days,โ€ she said, her tone slightly snarky.

โ€œThis is just a side job,โ€ Xander said smoothly, throwing me for a loop.

Wait, what? He had a solid career and moonlighted as a male model in a nightclub? Compared to him, I couldnโ€™t help but feel a littleโ€ฆ inadequate.

โ€œSo hardworking,โ€ Lena said, her voice softer now, almost impressed.

Xander didnโ€™t respond. I took that as our cue to leave. โ€œCome on, Lena. The showโ€™s about to start.โ€

But she wasnโ€™t done. Her eyes stayed locked on his face as she threw out one last question. โ€œDid your parents ever lose a child?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m an only child,โ€ Xander answered without a flicker of hesitation.

Lena chuckled. โ€œWell, your parents must have amazing genes.โ€

With that, she spun the wheelchair around and rolled me to a quieter corner. Once we were out of earshot, she finally dropped the act. โ€œSo, did what he said match anything you know about Hayden?โ€

I shook my head. Not even close. Except for that face.

Lena sighed. โ€œHe says heโ€™s not Hayden. His voice, his backgroundโ€”none of it matched. Butโ€ฆ that face. Ugh, I donโ€™t even know anymore.โ€

I stayed quiet, my mind racing for a way to figure this out. If he really wasnโ€™t Hayden, I couldnโ€™t keep holding onto this delusion. But everything so far pointed to him just being some random guy with Haydenโ€™s face.

โ€œYou were with Hayden for ages, you must know if heโ€™s got like, a scar or mole somewhere. Something only youโ€™d know. Find a reason to check Xander for it, and youโ€™ll know for sure,โ€ Lena said, ever the practical one.

The second she said it, the answer hit me. โ€œHayden has a mole on the back of his neck,โ€ I said without hesitation.

โ€œJust the neck? What aboutโ€ฆ other places?โ€ she asked, waggling her brows in that way that screamed trouble. โ€œAnything more, uh, private?โ€

I shook my head. โ€œI never noticed.โ€

Cue Lenaโ€™s dramatic eye roll. โ€œYou were with him how long and didnโ€™t notice? Were you even paying attention when you guys were, like, rolling around naked?โ€

Her tone dripped with mockery, but I couldnโ€™t help laughing. โ€œWhoโ€™s out here taking notes in the middle of that? What does that even mean?โ€

โ€œOh, so when it was you and Nate, Iโ€™m sure you were super observant,โ€ I shot back, flipping the teasing right onto her. โ€œDid you notice anything distinctive about his private areas?โ€

Lena coughed, suddenly looking a little flustered. โ€œOf course I did.โ€

โ€œReally? Spill. Whatโ€™s his โ€˜special featureโ€™?โ€ I pressed, grinning at the rare opportunity to get under her skin.

She smirked but dodged like a pro. โ€œThatโ€™s classified info. Strictly for me.โ€

Before I could push further, she started wheeling me back toward the venue. Weโ€™d barely rounded the corner when Aaron appeared. His gaze landed on Lena with a sharpness that could cut glass, deep and unreadable.

I felt Lenaโ€™s hands freeze on the wheelchair. For a moment, she didnโ€™t move. Then, she snapped out of it and pushed me forward with sudden, frantic energy. The wheelchair practically jolted into turbo mode.
