Chapter 677
Lena flashed a sly grin. โWow, so uptight. Wonโt even let me touch you, huh, handsome?โ
Xander didnโt miss a beat. โApologies, miss. Weโre performers, not escorts. Please behave yourself.โ His voice was firm but polite.
She raised an eyebrow but knew when to back off. โAlright, Mr. Manners.โ Still, she wasnโt done grilling him. โHow old are you?โ
โTwenty-nine.โ
Lena nodded, tilting her head as she studied him. โAnd your height?โ
โSix feet and a quarter inch.โ
She squinted, clearly calculating his proportions. โCollege?โ
โYes,โ he said without hesitation. โWellington Institute of Technology. I majored in Artificial Intelligence.โ
Lena clicked her tongue, her expression practically screaming what a waste. โAIโs a big deal these days,โ she said, her tone slightly snarky.
โThis is just a side job,โ Xander said smoothly, throwing me for a loop.
Wait, what? He had a solid career and moonlighted as a male model in a nightclub? Compared to him, I couldnโt help but feel a littleโฆ inadequate.
โSo hardworking,โ Lena said, her voice softer now, almost impressed.
Xander didnโt respond. I took that as our cue to leave. โCome on, Lena. The showโs about to start.โ
But she wasnโt done. Her eyes stayed locked on his face as she threw out one last question. โDid your parents ever lose a child?โ
โIโm an only child,โ Xander answered without a flicker of hesitation.
Lena chuckled. โWell, your parents must have amazing genes.โ
With that, she spun the wheelchair around and rolled me to a quieter corner. Once we were out of earshot, she finally dropped the act. โSo, did what he said match anything you know about Hayden?โ
I shook my head. Not even close. Except for that face.
Lena sighed. โHe says heโs not Hayden. His voice, his backgroundโnone of it matched. Butโฆ that face. Ugh, I donโt even know anymore.โ
I stayed quiet, my mind racing for a way to figure this out. If he really wasnโt Hayden, I couldnโt keep holding onto this delusion. But everything so far pointed to him just being some random guy with Haydenโs face.
โYou were with Hayden for ages, you must know if heโs got like, a scar or mole somewhere. Something only youโd know. Find a reason to check Xander for it, and youโll know for sure,โ Lena said, ever the practical one.
The second she said it, the answer hit me. โHayden has a mole on the back of his neck,โ I said without hesitation.
โJust the neck? What aboutโฆ other places?โ she asked, waggling her brows in that way that screamed trouble. โAnything more, uh, private?โ
I shook my head. โI never noticed.โ
Cue Lenaโs dramatic eye roll. โYou were with him how long and didnโt notice? Were you even paying attention when you guys were, like, rolling around naked?โ
Her tone dripped with mockery, but I couldnโt help laughing. โWhoโs out here taking notes in the middle of that? What does that even mean?โ
โOh, so when it was you and Nate, Iโm sure you were super observant,โ I shot back, flipping the teasing right onto her. โDid you notice anything distinctive about his private areas?โ
Lena coughed, suddenly looking a little flustered. โOf course I did.โ
โReally? Spill. Whatโs his โspecial featureโ?โ I pressed, grinning at the rare opportunity to get under her skin.
She smirked but dodged like a pro. โThatโs classified info. Strictly for me.โ
Before I could push further, she started wheeling me back toward the venue. Weโd barely rounded the corner when Aaron appeared. His gaze landed on Lena with a sharpness that could cut glass, deep and unreadable.
I felt Lenaโs hands freeze on the wheelchair. For a moment, she didnโt move. Then, she snapped out of it and pushed me forward with sudden, frantic energy. The wheelchair practically jolted into turbo mode.
