Chapter 719

Hayden had faked his death and taken brutal beatings to keep his identity hidden. Deini? Sheโ€™d sacrificed her entire future, paying a price so unimaginable it made my chest ache. If we called the cops now, all of that could be for nothing.

And letโ€™s be realโ€”if the police could fix this, DracoLux wouldโ€™ve been shut down ages ago.

This couldnโ€™t go unchecked, though. Especially not for Lena. Sheโ€™d always been fierce about protecting women, and seeing someone like Demi humiliated and broken like this? It wasnโ€™t something sheโ€™d ever tolerate.

โ€œHowโ€™s Demi? Has she woken up? Can I see her?โ€ I asked, my voice shaking.

Without a word, Lena led me to Demiโ€™s room. Seeing her hooked up to all those machines, tubes everywhere, an oxygen mask covering her bruised faceโ€ฆ It broke me. Lenaโ€™s earlier description of her injuries echoed in my head, every detail slicing me open.

โ€œIโ€™mโ€ฆ fine,โ€ Demi whispered weakly, as if she could sense my heartbreak and wanted to comfort me.

Tears spilled down my face as I held her hand. โ€œDemi, I swear, Iโ€™ll make them pay for this. I will. I promise.โ€

She gave me the faintest smile, but it was like a knife in my chest. Demi used to smile all the time, her laugh lighting up everything around her. Now, her smile was hollowโ€”a shadow of who she used to be.

โ€œYou need to report this,โ€ Lena said, her voice sharp, cutting through my pain.

Demiโ€™s smile wavered. โ€œNoโ€ฆ Iโ€ฆ wonโ€™t,โ€ she said softly.

โ€œThis is insane,โ€ Lena snapped, her frustration palpable.

โ€œI know,โ€ Demi murmured, her voice steady. โ€œBut I donโ€™t regret it.โ€

No tears, no visible painโ€”just emptiness. Yet I could feel the weight of what sheโ€™d been through.

โ€œI have toโ€ฆ take them all down,โ€ she said, her gaze distant and hollow.

Lena didnโ€™t argue. Instead, her voice softened. โ€œIโ€™ll do everything I can to treat your injuries. Iโ€™ll make sure thereโ€™s no lasting damage.โ€

Demi closed her eyes, finally succumbing to exhaustion.

Lena and I stepped out into the hallway. She handed me a tissue as I wiped my face, my voice barely steady. โ€œDemiโ€™s injuriesโ€ฆ theyโ€™re so severe. Are you sure sheโ€™ll recover?โ€

Lena hesitated. โ€œI repaired the uterine rupture and stopped the bleeding. But I canโ€™t guarantee sheโ€™ll be able to have children.โ€

Children. After all sheโ€™d enduredโ€”betrayal, trauma, her entire life shatteredโ€”would she ever even want to love someone again? Could she trust anyone after this?

The helplessness hit me like a wave. I couldnโ€™t say anything, just stared at the bloodstains on Lenaโ€™s gown. โ€œGo change,โ€ I muttered. โ€œIโ€™ll stay with her.โ€

As Lena turned to leave, she stopped. โ€œShe doesnโ€™t want to report this because sheโ€™s planning to go back and gather evidence, doesnโ€™t she?โ€

I nodded.

Lena sighed. โ€œThatโ€™s reckless.โ€

She wasnโ€™t wrong. Diving back into that hellhole was reckless, but it was also the only option. Even Hayden had done it. Thatโ€™s how deep DracoLuxโ€™s darkness ranโ€”it forced people to risk their lives just to get close enough to expose it.

โ€œDemi canโ€™t do this alone,โ€ Lena continued. โ€œBut if others worked with her, itโ€™d be easier.โ€

I got what she meant instantly. But how? I didnโ€™t know how to reach the othersโ€”those girls who had suffered just like Demi.

โ€œIโ€™ve treated girls like her before,โ€ Lena said, her voice thoughtful. โ€œIf Iโ€™m right, their stories are probably the same.โ€

It clicked. Lena wanted to unite those survivors, to bring them together to testify against DracoLux. And if any of them had evidence, it might save Demi from risking her life again.

Hope flared in my chest. I grabbed Lenaโ€™s arm. โ€œDo you know how to find them? Can you contact them?โ€
