Chapter 775
Tanya didnโt give up. She pulled out an envelope stuffed with cashโYunaโs earningsโand pushed it toward her alongside the box. โIf you donโt take this, you wonโt get anything at all.โ She really knew how to corner someone.
Thatโs when I decided to step in. I pushed the door open and strolled in, as if I had no idea what was going on. โWell, well, Tanya. Entertaining guests, are we?โ
Yuna didnโt even blink at my sudden arrival. No acknowledgment, no reactionโshe acted like we were total strangers. Tanya, though, stiffened for half a second before slipping her mask back on. She turned to Yuna and smiled. โThis is all yours. Take it.โ
Without hesitation, Yuna grabbed the envelope but left the box behind, making her stance clear. As expected of a girl raised by Haydenโshe had her pride.
โThank you,โ Yuna said before turning to leave.
From start to finish, Yuna didnโt say a single word to me. I couldnโt tell if she was still mad at me or just didnโt want Tanya knowing we were connected.
โIf you ever want another side job, youโre welcome back anytime,โ Tanya called after her, still fishing, even with me standing there.
โGood thing youโre a woman,โ I said casually, watching Yuna leave. โIf you were a man, Iโd think you had a thing for her.โ I strolled over to Tanyaโs desk and picked up the box sheโd packed for Yuna.
โDonโt you think thatโs rude?โ Tanya shot back, her tone as sharp as ever. Not a shred of respect for me as her boss.
I popped the box open. Inside was a diamond-encrusted braceletโexpensive enough to turn heads. โWow. Youโre pulling out all the stops just to keep her on your leash.โ
โNo pain, no gain,โ Tanya replied, not even bothering to hide her intentions.
I snapped the lid shut. โWhatever plans youโve got for that girl, let them go. Now.โ
She didnโt flinch, just stared at me, waiting for an explanation. I wasnโt about to play coy. โSheโs Haydenโs sister.โ
Tanya froze for a moment. โIs that so?โ

She smirked. โHaydenโs sister, huh? Singing for tips in a bar? Forget Haydenโjust you, as her sister-in-law, donโt seem very impressive.โ
She was digging for more, but I wasnโt giving her anything. Sliding the box back across the desk, I leaned in slightly. โYouโve got a big bar to run. Plenty to keep you busy, donโt you think?โ
It was a warning.
Tanya asked, โSo, whatโs the deal tonight? Surprise inspection or just killing time?โ
โBoth,โ I said, making it clear I wasnโt some hands-off boss.
She didnโt flinch, didnโt look the least bit guilty. In fact, she smirked and said, โNeed me to provide anything?โ
I wasnโt about to spook her. She was still useful to me, after all. Instead, I gave her a little ego boost. โIโm thinking youโve earned yourself a big bonus at the end of the year.โ
Tanyaโs smirk widened. โIโll be waiting for it.โ
Her smugness was almost funny, so I added, โYouโve got a real knack for management, Tanya. If you worked somewhere like Riverwave Corp, youโd probably be mid-to-upper management by now.โ
She had the skills to rise on merit, but sheโd always chosen shortcuts.
โTrying to provoke me?โ she asked, sharp as ever.
โJust saying itโs a shame,โ I replied, shrugging.
Tanyaโs smile didnโt waver. โEveryoneโs got their own ambitions. Look at you. You couldโve been a wealthy socialite. Instead, here you are, wandering around in the middle of the night, all alone.โ
Classic Tanyaโalways ready with a comeback. For every jab I threw, she had one locked and loaded.
I yawned. โLooks like your business skills arenโt the only thing improving. Your witโs sharper than ever.โ
With that, I stood, ready to call it a night. Sleep was pulling me like gravity.
Just as I turned to leave, Tanyaโs voice stopped me. โHave you seen Jace recently?โ
