Chapter 841

โ€œWho else?โ€ Haydenโ€™s voice was low, like the night itself, pulling me in. โ€œI was possiblyโ€ฆ my fate up in the air, and you still kept the baby.โ€

Oh. So, thatโ€™s what this was about; he thought Iโ€™d been silly.

โ€œI donโ€™t know if it was silly or not,โ€ I shot back. โ€œBut this is my baby. The baby came to me, and Iโ€™m going to love them with everything Iโ€™ve got.โ€

Honestly? Iโ€™d never thought of him as our baby. He was mine, plain and simple.

โ€œAlright,โ€ Hayden said softly, then kissed me. โ€œFrom now on, weโ€™ll love him together. Iโ€ฆ thank you.โ€

Thank me? For keeping the baby? For trusting him? Either way, it didnโ€™t matter.

After everythingโ€”the heartbreak, the revenge plots, the power gamesโ€”I finally felt light. Like none of it really mattered. What mattered now was living a life that felt like mine.

The next morning, I woke up alone. My chest tightened. Had he disappeared again? Panic surged as I called out, โ€œHayden!โ€

โ€œIโ€™m here.โ€ His voice came from outside the room, instantly grounding me.

A second later, he walked in, watching me as I pressed my eyes shut again. โ€œStill sleepy?โ€

I grabbed his hand, pulling it to my cheek. โ€œI thought you left me again.โ€

He brushed his fingers over my face. โ€œNever. Iโ€™m not going anywhere.โ€

I opened my eyes and wrapped my arms around his neck. โ€œPromise me. Every time I wake up, youโ€™ll be here.โ€

โ€œPromise,โ€ he murmured, lifting me effortlessly. โ€œNow, go freshen up. Breakfast is ready.โ€

Skipping meals? Yeah, not happening with Hayden around.

He carried me to the bathroom, already playing the doting boyfriendโ€”filling my cup with mouthwash, squeezing toothpaste onto my brush. It was over-the-top sweet, but I knew this was his way of saying, โ€œSorry for everything.โ€

Breakfast was next level: buttery croissants, roasted potato salad with arugula, and my favorite vanilla custard.

โ€œDonโ€™t tell me you pulled an all-nighter to make this?โ€ I teased, eyeing the spread.

He used to cook for me all the time, but this? It felt extra.

โ€œNope. Just woke up early,โ€ he said, shrugging like it was no big deal. Classic Hayden.

As I forked a bite of custard, I asked, โ€œSo, where are you off to after this? Yuna?โ€

Over the past few days when he was gone, Yuna hadnโ€™t been as panicked, but I knew she mustโ€™ve still been worried.

โ€œShe can wait,โ€ he said after a pause.

Wait? For Hayden, the guy who doted on his sister like she hung the moon, that wasโ€ฆ odd.

โ€œYou already saw her, didnโ€™t you?โ€ I guessed.

It had been a while since I last saw Yuna, and she hadnโ€™t reached out either. She was probably buried in college stuffโ€”or still annoyed at me for keeping her in the dark about everything.

โ€œNo.โ€ His eyes locked on mine. โ€œYouโ€™re the first person I came to see.โ€

I believed him. โ€œThen go see her already.โ€

โ€œI will,โ€ he said. โ€œAfter I see someone else.โ€

โ€œWho?โ€

Hayden hesitated for a beat, then said, โ€œThe person you trust most.โ€

My fork froze mid-air. Oh. I got it right away. Smirking, I asked, โ€œWhatโ€™s this? Are you jealous?โ€
