Chapter 881
โHow boring,โ Lena grumbled.
Not wanting to disappoint her, Aaron relented. He opened the car door, used the frame to push himself up, and joined her on the roof with a graceful leap.
Lenaโs mood brightened instantly. She reached out and playfully tapped his forehead. โUncle, youโre so obedient.โ
โYouโre just a drunk lunatic,โ Aaron muttered, grabbing her arm to keep her steady.
Lena rested her head on his shoulder. โUncle, tell me a storyโฆโ
โOnce upon a time; there was a little girl who dreamed of visiting the moon. Every night, she prayed and wished, until one day, her sincerity caught the attention of a celestial maiden in the moon palaceโฆโ
โI donโt want to hear that one!โ Lena interrupted, shaking her head in protest. โYou told me that story when I was little, and youโre still telling it now. Iโm sick of it!โ
โThen what story do you want to hear?โ Aaronโs deep voice carried a soothing resonance in the quiet night, rich and magnetic.
Lena closed her eyes slightly. โTell me about your love story, Uncle.โ
โAre you sure you want to hear it?โ he asked softly.
โMm-hmm. So many girls like you, Uncle. I want to know who the first girl you ever liked was,โ she murmured, her voice tinged with drowsiness.
Aaron gazed into the night. โThe girl I like doesnโt have a โfirstโโฆ because thereโs only ever been one. Sheโs adorable, beautiful, and the first time I met herโฆโ
As he finished his story, Lena had already fallen into a peaceful slumber. Aaron chuckled softly, brushing his cheek gently against the top of her head before scooping her up and carrying her home.
When Lena woke up, she found herself in her own soft bed. Rolling over, fragmented memories from the night before flashed in her mind. She groaned, pulling the blanket over her head.
She knew she was a terrible drunk, but she hadnโt realized it was this bad. Dancing on top of a car? Acting wild? How was she supposed to face anyone now?
Quietly, she slipped out of bed and peeked through the door. The living room was emptyโno sign of Aaron. She exhaled in relief.
Chapter 891
After today, sheโd have to find a good excuse to avoid coming back here.
Later that day, Keira had a prenatal checkup scheduled. Naturally, she trusted no one but Lena, her expert best friend. But when she tried to register under her name, she was informed Lena had swapped shifts.
โWhere are you?โ Keira called her directly.
โUhโฆ at the hospital,โ Lena replied, clearing her throat.
โYouโre at the hospital but not in the clinic? Donโt lie to me,โ Keira shot back.
โIโm really at the hospital. In the underground parking lot,โ Lena admitted reluctantly. She had only just arrived.
โWhy are you late?โ Keira asked, cutting straight to the point.
Lena wanted to explain that it wasnโt her fault. Aaron had turned off her alarm and even called in to get her shift covered. At this rate, she was sure she wouldnโt win any โEmployee of the Yearโ awards. With all her late arrivals, early departures, and absences recently, she could barely look her colleagues in the eye.
โLetโs talk when we meet,โ Lena said quickly before hanging up.
As Keira put her phone away, she turned to Hayden, who was carrying her medical documents along with the breakfast and milk he had prepared for her. โSomethingโs off with Lena.โ
โWhat could be off?โ Hayden asked casually, though he kept his tone gentle as he supported Keira.
Just as Keira was about to respond, she caught sight of a familiar figure in the distance. She nudged Hayden and gestured toward the person.
The moment Hayden saw who it was, his expression darkened. Without a word, he started striding in that direction.
โWait,โ Keira said, grabbing his arm to stop him.
