Chapter 915
Hayden took out his phone and made a call. โThereโs a car following me and my wife. Find out their identity, but make sure they donโt realize weโre onto them,โ he instructed.
โWhy donโt you want them to know weโve noticed?โ Keira asked, puzzled.
โDonโt startle the snake. If they really have ulterior motives, taking care of this might just bring another wave,โ Hayden explained. His reasoning made sense, and Keira nodded in understanding.
They picked up Lenaโs suitcase and were on their way to deliver it when the car behind them was rear-ended. They stopped to check, and Hayden received a messageโa series of photos and some information.
โWindy Cityโฆ the Mitchell family?โ Hayden muttered under his breath.
Keira leaned over to look at the photos. One showed the driver partially visible, cautiously keeping the car windows barely open. The backseat passenger was only captured in silhouette. But Haydenโs people were well-prepared and used high-definition cameras, managing to capture a clear shot of the backseatโa white-haired old man.
After going through the photos and information, Hayden made another call, this time on speaker so Keira could hear as well.
โWe caused the rear-end collision, but they donโt want to pursue it. They clearly donโt want to escalate. Should we keep tailing them?โ the voice on the other end asked.
โYes. Keep following them, but make sure they donโt notice. Also, send me all the information you have on the Mitchell family from Windy City,โ Hayden instructed before hanging up.
โDo you have any history with the Mitchell family from Windy City?โ Keira asked.
โNo, but the Mitchell family is well-known there. Iโve heard of them. Apparently, they recently had some troubleโa family member fell into a coma and is now essentially a vegetable,โ Hayden replied, leaving Keira momentarily stunned.
โThat has nothing to do with us, though,โ she said, confused.
Hayden nodded lightly. โExactly. Thatโs why we need to investigate further to figure out why theyโre tailing us.โ
Keira chuckled. โYouโre impressiveโturning their stalking into your own counter-surveillance.โ
Knock, knock!
The sound of knuckles on the car window interrupted them. Hayden and Keira turned to see Lena standing outside. Neither of them had noticed her approach.
Hayden lowered the window, and Lena leaned against it, smirking at the two of them. โWhatโs this? Sitting in the car doing nothing? Why arenโt you getting out?โ
โWell, we were about to, but then you interrupted,โ Keira teased her.
โBig belly and all, donโt let your imagination run wild,โ Lena said, glancing pointedly at Hayden.
The joking tone made Hayden uncomfortable. He quickly got out, opened the trunk, and began unloading Lenaโs luggage and the gifts theyโd bought.
โThanks for helping me out,โ Lena said as she opened the car door and helped Keira step out.
โIf you hadnโt insisted on moving, maybe your uncle wouldnโt have gotten into that car accident,โ Keira teased.
โThatโs not on me. He brought it on himself,โ Lena huffed, though she didnโt mention the fact that Aaron had been drinking and driving.
Hayden walked ahead of them, his long strides quickly creating some distance. Lena and Keira followed at a more leisurely pace.
โYour Mr. Hart sure has long legs,โ Lena commented.
โOf course, he does. Theyโre beautiful long legs,โ Keira replied, not catching her teasing tone.
โIf his legs are so long, why is he so slow to act? Even when it comes to running away,โ Lena quipped, her words full of hidden meaning.
Keira ignored her jab and instead told her about the car following them. Lena immediately tensed up. โCanโt you two catch a break?โ
โI donโt know. Weโll figure it out once we get more information,โ Keira replied, equally frustrated.
โItโs someone from the Mitchell family of Windy City. Doesnโt seem to have any connection to the Drago family,โ Keira said. But as soon as the words left her mouth, Lena stopped in her tracks.
โDid you say Windy Cityโs Mitchell family?โ
Keira nodded. โYes. Do you know them, or do you know something about this?โ
