Listen to this chapter:

Ever since the matter with the Tags Family and the apnea retest, and Fayden's safe return, Keira had spent the day with them. But now, with Haydenโ€™s sudden remark, unease crept back into her. It wasnโ€™t fear; it was something else. Now that she had a baby on the way, she just wanted to get through each day peacefully, ensuring her child could come into this world happy and safe.

Through the rearview mirror, she saw the car tailing them. It was a large SUVโ€”imposing and sturdy. โ€œIf you were to collide with them head-on now, what are our chances of winning?โ€ she asked Hayden.

He let out a soft chuckle. โ€œWhat do you think?โ€

To make getting in and out of the car more convenient and comfortable for Keira, Hayden had chosen to drive a corporate vehicle. In terms of size, the car behind them was far larger than theirs.

โ€œEven if we could win a collision, we wonโ€™t do it,โ€ Hayden said, taking her hand in his. โ€œDonโ€™t worry. Once we reach the next stop, Iโ€™ll let you out to pretend to shop while I have a little chat with them.โ€

โ€œNo way. How could I just leave you behind?โ€ Keira protested.

Hayden didnโ€™t respond, only gazing at her with those deep, penetrating eyes that made her heart flutter slightly.

โ€œFine. Then stay in the car, donโ€™t move, and Iโ€™ll lock the doors. Iโ€™ll step out and have a word with them,โ€ he said, catching her completely off guard.

โ€œHave a word? That polite?โ€

Hayden smiled. โ€œWhat else? Ram into their car or grab a stick to start a fight?โ€ His hand gently brushed her face. โ€œRelax. They wouldnโ€™t dare do anything to us in broad daylight.โ€

โ€œThen why lock me in the car? Afraid theyโ€™ll take me away the moment you leave?โ€ Keira shot back, unconvinced.

โ€œThey say pregnancy makes a woman scatterbrained, but my wife is different. Not only are you not scatterbrained, but youโ€™re sharp as ever,โ€ Hayden said, his expression full of indulgence.

Keira glanced at the rearview mirror again. โ€œWhat do you think? Are they people you didnโ€™t completely take care of?โ€

Haydenโ€™s gaze darkened. โ€œNo. If I were to wipe them out, there wouldnโ€™t be any loose ends.โ€

She trusted him. If this wasnโ€™t revenge, then they werenโ€™t after Haydenโ€”they were after her. While it couldโ€™ve been someone from the Hart family, those people usually approached her through Kylian. There was no need for them to resort to tailing her like this.

โ€œTheyโ€™re after me? But I havenโ€™t offended anyone recently. Could it have something to do with Sashaโ€™s visit?โ€ she asked, growing more and more frustrated.

All Keira wanted was a peaceful life. But as they said, the tree might want to stay still, but the wind never stopped.

โ€œIโ€™m not sure, but donโ€™t panic yet,โ€ Hayden said, steering the wheel with one hand while maintaining a steady drive. โ€œWeโ€™ll pretend we havenโ€™t noticed and quietly observe them,โ€ he added.

Keira agreed with his approach. To maintain the pretense, Hayden took her on a detour. They stopped at a few places, including a supermarket to pick up some gifts. After all, it wouldnโ€™t be polite to visit Aaron empty-handed, especially since he was injured.

They also browsed a baby store. Hayden picked out an adorable little outfit and bought it without hesitation. He even remarked on how cute baby clothes were and promised to bring her back for more shopping later.

Despite the detour, when they headed back toward Lenaโ€™s place, the car was still following them.

โ€œHow long are they planning to keep this up?โ€ Keira muttered, frustrated and uneasy.

โ€œI donโ€™t know. Let them follow. Iโ€™ve arranged for someone to take care of it,โ€ Hayden said, his patience clearly running thin.

Keira didnโ€™t object. This was something that needed to be resolved and understood.
