Chapter 980

Lena was so startled she was about to ask what he was doing when, suddenly, her wrist tightened. A sharp pain shot through her wrist bone, and the heavy weight in her hand disappeared. Aaron held the bracelet, staring at her for two whole seconds before turning around and walking away.

Watching his retreating figure, Lenaโ€™s lips parted slightly, but in the end, she said nothing. After all, she had planned to return it anyway. Since he wanted to take it back himself, she might as well let him. At least it saved her the trouble of dealing with it. She just wondered what excuse he would come up with to return it on her behalf.

Naturally, afterward, it would be awkward for her to go back inside. So, she sent a message to Ron, saying that an emergency had come up at the hospital and she had to rush back. At times like this, she was grateful for her profession. No matter when she used this excuse, no one would question itโ€”after all, it was a matter of life and death.

After leaving the Shane household, Lena headed straight to Keiraโ€™s little courtyard. What surprised her was that today, Dr. Lane had actually brought her a bouquet of fresh flowers.

โ€œWhatโ€™s with the sudden generosity?โ€ Keira took the flowers, teasing her happily.

โ€œThe southwest wind from the Mediterranean,โ€ Lena replied, glancing at Keiraโ€™s belly. โ€œThe babyโ€™s growing fast.โ€

She was a professional, so her words immediately made Keira nervous. โ€œIs that a bad thing?โ€

โ€œNo, but you need to watch your diet. Donโ€™t eat too much, or both you and the baby will suffer during delivery,โ€ Lena explained.

Keira glanced toward the house, where her husband, the culprit, was busy preparing all sorts of delicious meals for her. If the baby or she ended up gaining too much weight, he would definitely be to blame.

โ€œYou see him every day, and itโ€™s still not enough?โ€ Lena joked.

Keira withdrew her gaze and called out, โ€œHayden.โ€

Her husband immediately responded, โ€œComing.โ€

Lena chuckled. โ€œYou two really have that old married couple vibe now.โ€

โ€œWe prefer to call it being inseparably in love,โ€ Keira corrected her.

Hayden walked over, carrying the coffee he had specially made for Lena. โ€œWelcome, Dr. Lane, to our humble home.โ€

โ€œCoffee personally brewed by Mr. Hart? I must be quite lucky today,โ€ Lena bantered.

Keira handed the bouquet to Hayden. โ€œThese are from Lena.โ€

โ€œIf you want a daughter, you should look at more flowers. Itโ€™s supposed to help,โ€ Lena remarked. Her words immediately reminded Keira that she was the one who always did her ultrasoundsโ€”she must already know whether she was having a boy or a girl.

โ€œAre you trying to hint at something?โ€ Keira asked.

She took a sip of coffee. โ€œHint at what? Can you not overthink everything?โ€

โ€œNo matter what, the baby is ours,โ€ Hayden said nonchalantly. With that, he left the room, giving Lena and Keira some space. Keira looked at her, saying nothing, but Lena understood her meaning.

โ€œI have professional ethics,โ€ she stated firmly. โ€œBesides, determining the babyโ€™s gender for non-medical reasons is illegal.โ€

She was taking the moral high ground, so Keira snorted. โ€œFine, donโ€™t say anything. Iโ€™ll find out soon enough anyway.โ€

โ€œExactly, youโ€™ll know soon enough,โ€ Lena replied, her lips sealed as tightly as ever.

But Keira wasnโ€™t that curious anyway. It was just a fun conversation.

โ€œYouโ€™re dressed differently today,โ€ Keira finally noticed something unusual about her.

Since Lena worked in surgery, she usually kept her face bare and avoided makeup. But today, she was dressed stylishly, her makeup subtle yet striking, making her look especially charming.

โ€œWhat? I canโ€™t dress up once in a while?โ€ Lena took another sip of coffee. โ€œBy the way, your husbandโ€™s coffee-making skills are just as good as yours.โ€

That old saying about teaching a student until they surpass the master wasnโ€™t wrong. Keira had long noticed that Haydenโ€™s coffee had a richer aroma and a smoother taste than hers. He was the kind of person who, if he did something, he had to do it to perfection.

โ€œDonโ€™t change the subject. Did you dress up for a date?โ€ Keira pressed.

โ€œI went to meet the parents,โ€ Lena admitted, then sighed.

She told me about her visit to the Shane family, finishing with a helpless remark: โ€œHonestly, what kind of karmic entanglement do Aaron and I have? No matter where I go, I always seem to run into him.โ€
