โThen even fate is helping you two,โ Keira looked at her seriously. โHave you thought it through? Do you actually like him? Do you want to be with him? Or are you just uncomfortable when you see him being good to another womanโmaybe even jealous?โ
โNo,โ Lena answered without hesitation.
Keira chuckled. โThat means yes.โ
โI said no! Are you losing your hearing along with being pregnant?โ Lena denied it firmly.
โYouโre trying too hard to deny it, which means youโre lying,โ Keira exposed her outright.
There was no need for Lena to hide things from her. She stared at Keira for a few seconds before sighing. โYouโre just so smart, arenโt you?โ
โLena, if you really like him, canโt you be brave just this once?โ Keira encouraged her.
After Hayden had talked some sense into her that day, she realized that the biggest issue between Lena and Aaron wasnโt whether their parents could accept them being togetherโit was whether she was willing to take that step.
And Keira had to admit, Aaron was incredibly patient with her. He was actually willing to wait for her to wake up and realize her feelings.
โBut he has a girlfriend now. Whatโs the point of being brave? Iโm not about to become the third party and ruin someone elseโs relationship,โ Lena scoffed before downing the rest of her coffee in one go.
โHey, thatโs coffee, not alcohol,โ Keira reminded her with a laugh.
She tilted her head back, looking at the sky above Keiraโs little courtyard. After a brief silence, she muttered, โItโs getting cold. Itโs going to snow soon. How are you going to manage here?โ
Her sudden topic shift was ridiculous.
โDonโt worry about it. Youโll find out soon enough.โ
Aaron had already arranged for workers to come and make adjustments that night. Since this place was pretty secluded, they didnโt have to worry about disturbing the neighbors with late-night construction.
โAaron still likes you,โ Keira reminded her gently, not wanting to push too hard.
Lena scoffed. โIf he likes me, then why does he have a girlfriend? What a scumbag!โ
โAre you serious? You rejected him, so now heโs not allowed to move on and date someone else?โ Keira defended Aaron.
Lena suddenly turned to Keira, narrowing her eyes. โRea, why do I get the feeling youโre biased toward Aaron these days? Did he bribe you or something?โ
โIโm just being fair,โ Keira replied, tapping her chest lightly. โSearch your heart and tell me what exactly did he do wrong?โ
Lena opened her mouth as if to argue, but before she could say anything, someone entered the courtyard.
โKeira, Dr. Lane,โ Yuna greeted them somewhat awkwardly.
Keira was surprised to see her. The last time she went there was for her wedding.
โCome sit here, beautiful. Long time no see,โ Lena greeted warmly. She had always liked Yuna.
Yuna walked over, carrying a box of fruit. โKeira, I didnโt know what you liked to eat, so I just bought a little of everything.โ
Then she turned to Lena. โSorry, Dr. Lane, I didnโt know you were here, so Iโฆโ
She trailed off, clearly feeling a little uncomfortable.
Yuna was different from before. The once carefree girl now carried a shyness that suited her age, along with an elegance that came from being immersed in knowledge and culture.
Her change was particularly striking, and Keira couldnโt help but think of her heart transplant.
Medically, there was no scientific proof that receiving a donorโs organ could alter a personโs traits. But in reality, there were countless cases suggesting otherwise.
Yuna now carried Narelleโs heart. Had she also inherited something from Narelle?
Unfortunately, I had never interacted with Narelle, so I couldnโt tell for sure.
โThereโs no need for all that here. Just seeing you and having a happy chat is enough,โ Lena said sincerely.
Over the years, she had saved many children and families. People had tried to thank her in various ways, but she had always refused their gifts.
โHowโs school? Are you still busy?โ Keira asked.
โThe holidays are coming up, so things are winding down,โ Yuna replied.
Thatโs when it hit Keiraโof course, she would be on break soon.
And Keira quickly understood what that meant. She wouldnโt be staying at school anymore. But she wouldnโt be going back home either.
โIf you donโt have any other plans, why donโt you stay here at the courtyard for the holidays?โ Keira offered.
Yuna glanced at Keira, then at Lena, before shaking her head lightly.
โKeira, I already have other plans.โ
