Chapter 193

This didn’t sound good. Josiah frowned and hurriedly interrupted her. “Yvette! You’re overthinking this. You know Howard. He would never go back on his word.”

“Yeah,” Yvette nodded, looking despondent.

“So, don’t worry about it,” Josiah said, thinking she had taken it to heart. “Howard would never betray you.”

Yvette thought, Will he not betray me? She used to think so, but now she wasn’t sure. “Anyway,” she began, slowly regaining her composure and continuing to make pancakes. Smiling, she added, “You haven’t had these in a while. I remember you could eat three at once.”

“You’re working too hard. You really don’t have to go through all this trouble. The maid will be here soon…” Josiah said.

Suddenly, Yvette said, “I just couldn’t find any maple syrup. Do you have any?”

Josiah frowned and immediately stood up. “None. Then I’ll go buy some.”

“No need,” Yvette laughed, stopping him. “You know I don’t like maple syrup so much. I was just asking casually. If you don’t have it, it’s no big deal.”

“No way,” Josiah shook his head. “Sienna likes maple syrup. She won’t eat without it. I’ll go buy some. The convenience store in the neighborhood has it.”

Yvette couldn’t stop him as she watched him leave, her expression darkening. He was so considerate of Sienna now.

Josiah returned later than expected, holding a bottle of maple syrup. He placed it on the table.

“Why did it take so long?” Yvette asked.

Josiah explained, “The convenience store didn’t have the brand Sienna likes, so I went to find it.”

As he spoke, footsteps could be heard from upstairs. Sienna was coming down. “Sienna,” Josiah said immediately, standing up and walking toward her, carefully observing her expression. “You’re up? So early?”

“Yeah,” Sienna smiled and nodded. “Didn’t you two get up even earlier?”

Josiah thought, You two. By using those words, she unintentionally grouped him and Yvette together. He ignored the discomfort in his chest and took Sienna’s wrist. “Come eat breakfast. Yvette made pancakes,” he said.

Sienna let him lead her into the dining room. Yvette was flipping pancakes. Hearing the noise, she turned and said, “Sienna’s here.” Only Sienna could understand the deep disdain in Yvette’s eyes.

“Sienna, sit down,” Josiah said, releasing her. “I’ll help out.” He took over Yvette’s task, saying, “I’ll handle this. You go sit outside.” Since Yvette had cooked breakfast, it wouldn’t be right for him and Sienna to just sit and wait.

Yvette smiled and said, “Alright then, you take care of it.” Thus, the dining table became a face-to-face situation between her and Sienna.

Sienna took a deep breath. “It smells so good. It must taste great.”

Yvette’s face turned cold. “It’s not made for you!”

Sienna slowly raised her head, smiling lightly. “I know, but Josiah insisted I eat. What can I do?”

Yvette was infuriated, glaring at Sienna’s smiling face. All the resentment built up from Howard’s betrayal surfaced. She didn’t want to see Sienna’s face another second. “Get out! Right now, immediately leave this place!” she said. Instantly, Sienna’s smile faded, and she coldly stared at Yvette. “What did you say?” she asked.

“Stop pretending!” Yvette sneered, lowering her voice to be more impolite. “Get out! I’m telling you to get out!”

Sienna smirked and glanced towards the kitchen. The pancakes were already cooked, and Josiah was plating them. She said, “What do you think would happen if I told him what you just said?”

“Huh?” Yvette raised an eyebrow, unafraid. “Go ahead and tell him. You don’t really think that just because you’ve been together for a few days, you can surpass the years I’ve spent with him, do you? What a joke!”

Josiah was already bringing the plate over. “Pancakes are here.”

Yvette said disdainfully, “You can eat all the shameless words you want. I’ll just treat it like feeding a dog.”

Josiah placed the pancakes on the dining table. His intuition told him the atmosphere was off. Stuck in the middle, he felt awkward. He sat down beside Sienna, feeling uneasy. “Did you wait long? Eat up,” he said.

Yvette was the first to speak, picking up a pancake with a fork. She dipped it in maple syrup and, instead of eating it, handed it to Sienna. “Here, Sienna, try it… I made these by hand, got up early to prepare,” Yvette said.

The pancake was right in front of Sienna. All she had to do was eat it, and she would become the dog Yvette referred to. She couldn’t eat it.

“Hurry up,” Yvette urged, pushing it closer, almost touching Sienna’s lips. “My arm is getting tired…”

Before Sienna could think, she swatted Yvette’s arm away, sending the pancake rolling to the floor.

“Ah!” Yvette exclaimed, standing up in shock. “Sienna, what are you doing?”

Seeing Sienna act so innocent made her feel nauseous. Without Yvette chasing her, Sienna stood up, grabbed her bag, and was ready to leave.

“Stop!” It was Josiah, pulling Sienna’s arm gently as he stood up. He looked down at her face, his eyes filled with suppressed displeasure. “You’ve caused a scene all night, and I’ve let you have your way. Isn’t that enough?” He glanced at the pancake on the floor, his teeth grinding. He continued, his voice cold as ice, “The breakfast was made by Yvette this morning. Apologize to her!”

Yvette looked surprised and grabbed Josiah’s arm. “Forget it, it’s not a big deal.”

“No way!” Josiah refused, his gaze locked onto Sienna. “This is Sienna’s fault. She should apologize to you. It’s only right.”

Sienna smirked. “You want me to apologize to her?”

“Yes,” Josiah nodded, his tone indifferent. “You were raised by Maranda. You’re one of the elite in Jeiacrity. You don’t even understand basic manners? If you do something wrong, shouldn’t you apologize?”

Sienna sneered. “What if I refuse to apologize?”

Josiah hadn’t anticipated her stubbornness. His expression darkened. In that moment, it was as if he was seeing the teenage Sienna he knew.

Clenching his teeth, he blurted out, “Sienna, you really haven’t changed at all. Four years have passed, and you’re still as arrogant, domineering, and willful as ever.”
