Chapter 193
This didnโt sound good. Josiah frowned and hurriedly interrupted her. โYvette! Youโre overthinking this. You know Howard. He would never go back on his word.โ
โYeah,โ Yvette nodded, looking despondent.
โSo, donโt worry about it,โ Josiah said, thinking she had taken it to heart. โHoward would never betray you.โ
Yvette thought, Will he not betray me? She used to think so, but now she wasnโt sure. โAnyway,โ she began, slowly regaining her composure and continuing to make pancakes. Smiling, she added, โYou havenโt had these in a while. I remember you could eat three at once.โ
โYouโre working too hard. You really donโt have to go through all this trouble. The maid will be here soonโฆโ Josiah said.
Suddenly, Yvette said, โI just couldnโt find any maple syrup. Do you have any?โ
Josiah frowned and immediately stood up. โNone. Then Iโll go buy some.โ
โNo need,โ Yvette laughed, stopping him. โYou know I donโt like maple syrup so much. I was just asking casually. If you donโt have it, itโs no big deal.โ
โNo way,โ Josiah shook his head. โSienna likes maple syrup. She wonโt eat without it. Iโll go buy some. The convenience store in the neighborhood has it.โ
Yvette couldnโt stop him as she watched him leave, her expression darkening. He was so considerate of Sienna now.
Josiah returned later than expected, holding a bottle of maple syrup. He placed it on the table.
โWhy did it take so long?โ Yvette asked.
Josiah explained, โThe convenience store didnโt have the brand Sienna likes, so I went to find it.โ
As he spoke, footsteps could be heard from upstairs. Sienna was coming down. โSienna,โ Josiah said immediately, standing up and walking toward her, carefully observing her expression. โYouโre up? So early?โ
โYeah,โ Sienna smiled and nodded. โDidnโt you two get up even earlier?โ
Josiah thought, You two. By using those words, she unintentionally grouped him and Yvette together. He ignored the discomfort in his chest and took Siennaโs wrist. โCome eat breakfast. Yvette made pancakes,โ he said.
Sienna let him lead her into the dining room. Yvette was flipping pancakes. Hearing the noise, she turned and said, โSiennaโs here.โ Only Sienna could understand the deep disdain in Yvetteโs eyes.
โSienna, sit down,โ Josiah said, releasing her. โIโll help out.โ He took over Yvetteโs task, saying, โIโll handle this. You go sit outside.โ Since Yvette had cooked breakfast, it wouldnโt be right for him and Sienna to just sit and wait.
Yvette smiled and said, โAlright then, you take care of it.โ Thus, the dining table became a face-to-face situation between her and Sienna.
Sienna took a deep breath. โIt smells so good. It must taste great.โ
Yvetteโs face turned cold. โItโs not made for you!โ
Sienna slowly raised her head, smiling lightly. โI know, but Josiah insisted I eat. What can I do?โ
Yvette was infuriated, glaring at Siennaโs smiling face. All the resentment built up from Howardโs betrayal surfaced. She didnโt want to see Siennaโs face another second. โGet out! Right now, immediately leave this place!โ she said. Instantly, Siennaโs smile faded, and she coldly stared at Yvette. โWhat did you say?โ she asked.
โStop pretending!โ Yvette sneered, lowering her voice to be more impolite. โGet out! Iโm telling you to get out!โ
Sienna smirked and glanced towards the kitchen. The pancakes were already cooked, and Josiah was plating them. She said, โWhat do you think would happen if I told him what you just said?โ
โHuh?โ Yvette raised an eyebrow, unafraid. โGo ahead and tell him. You donโt really think that just because youโve been together for a few days, you can surpass the years Iโve spent with him, do you? What a joke!โ
Josiah was already bringing the plate over. โPancakes are here.โ
Yvette said disdainfully, โYou can eat all the shameless words you want. Iโll just treat it like feeding a dog.โ
Josiah placed the pancakes on the dining table. His intuition told him the atmosphere was off. Stuck in the middle, he felt awkward. He sat down beside Sienna, feeling uneasy. โDid you wait long? Eat up,โ he said.
Yvette was the first to speak, picking up a pancake with a fork. She dipped it in maple syrup and, instead of eating it, handed it to Sienna. โHere, Sienna, try itโฆ I made these by hand, got up early to prepare,โ Yvette said.
The pancake was right in front of Sienna. All she had to do was eat it, and she would become the dog Yvette referred to. She couldnโt eat it.
โHurry up,โ Yvette urged, pushing it closer, almost touching Siennaโs lips. โMy arm is getting tiredโฆโ
Before Sienna could think, she swatted Yvetteโs arm away, sending the pancake rolling to the floor.
โAh!โ Yvette exclaimed, standing up in shock. โSienna, what are you doing?โ
Seeing Sienna act so innocent made her feel nauseous. Without Yvette chasing her, Sienna stood up, grabbed her bag, and was ready to leave.
โStop!โ It was Josiah, pulling Siennaโs arm gently as he stood up. He looked down at her face, his eyes filled with suppressed displeasure. โYouโve caused a scene all night, and Iโve let you have your way. Isnโt that enough?โ He glanced at the pancake on the floor, his teeth grinding. He continued, his voice cold as ice, โThe breakfast was made by Yvette this morning. Apologize to her!โ
Yvette looked surprised and grabbed Josiahโs arm. โForget it, itโs not a big deal.โ
โNo way!โ Josiah refused, his gaze locked onto Sienna. โThis is Siennaโs fault. She should apologize to you. Itโs only right.โ
Sienna smirked. โYou want me to apologize to her?โ
โYes,โ Josiah nodded, his tone indifferent. โYou were raised by Maranda. Youโre one of the elite in Jeiacrity. You donโt even understand basic manners? If you do something wrong, shouldnโt you apologize?โ
Sienna sneered. โWhat if I refuse to apologize?โ
Josiah hadnโt anticipated her stubbornness. His expression darkened. In that moment, it was as if he was seeing the teenage Sienna he knew.
Clenching his teeth, he blurted out, โSienna, you really havenโt changed at all. Four years have passed, and youโre still as arrogant, domineering, and willful as ever.โ
