Chapter 195
In that small window, two lines were unmistakably visible. Sienna excitedly covered her mouth. "Positive! It's positive! I'm pregnant!" she thought.
Although she had hoped and longed for this, she hadn't expected it to happen so easily. "How long have I been with Josiah? I'm already pregnant!" she mused. Remembering her pregnancy with Joyce, it seemed equally effortless. She'd been married less than two months and hadn't had intercourse frequently when she conceived.
"Great, just great!" Sienna, overjoyed, hopped on the spot. She had regretted the morning's events, but now, her worries vanished. She was pregnant. She no longer needed to grovel to Josiah, to act submissive.
"Thank you, thank you!" she clasped her hands, looking upward. "God, thank you. Finally, you've blessed me. And Josiah, thank you too." If Joyce was saved because of this, her hatred for him could be completely erased. From now on, she would treat him like a stranger, with a gentle demeanor.
The evening performance proceeded as scheduled. Fortunately, her experience with Joyce's pregnancy equipped her to care for herself. She would soon speak to Brenda about resigning.
This child was hard-won; it was both her treasure and Joyce's hope for survival. For this, she was willing to give up everything. Future opportunities she might miss were a pity, but she didn't hesitate or regret it. One can only consider the future after navigating the present well.
After the performance, she returned to the dressing room, and her phone rang, as expected. It was Josiah. Sienna curved her lips into a faint smile and answered, "Hello."
"Sienna," Josiah's voice was nervous. The morning's quarrel flashed through his mind; his Adam's apple bobbed. "Youโฆ are you done? I'm waiting for you outside," he asked.
After a brief pause, Sienna finally said, "Yeah, I'm done. Wait for me a bit."
"Okay, I'll wait for you." Josiah was delighted. He'd expected Sienna to still be angry. He planned to apologize sincerely and accept any scolding or punishment.
Sienna put away her phone, a bright light in her eyes. She looked at Rosie, who was organizing costumes. "Rosie."
"Hmm?" Rosie asked, "What's up?"
"There's something I need to ask you," Sienna nodded with a smile.
"Sure, what is it?"
After tidying up, Sienna went outside. Josiah, considerate and attentive as usual, helped her into the car. Just as he was about to drive, she said, "Find a nearby cafรฉ, and let's sit for a bit."
"Okay." At this point, Josiah would comply without question. He drove to a nearby cafรฉ. After they sat down, he said, "Are you hungry? I can order you a brownie. What would you like to drink? Coffee?"
"No, just a cup of milk will do," Sienna smiled. From today onwards, she would take good care of herself and the baby.
"Alright," Josiah ordered a cup of hot milk and a glass of lemon water.
Once the drinks arrived, Sienna sipped her milk calmly. "Let's break up."
Josiah's head snapped up, his eyes widening. "What did you say?"
"Didn't hear me?" Sienna knew he had. "Alright, I'll say it again. I said let's break up."
A few seconds of silence. Josiah forced a smile, his face paling. "Why? Haven't I been good to you?"
"Hmm," Sienna shrugged. "No, you have been quite good to me, aside from the Yvette issue." She sat up straight, looking at him steadily. "Thank you for giving Joyce a chance at life. The thanks were well-deserved."
Josiah laughed, his voice cold and mocking. "Just because we had a fight, you want to break up? Which couple never argues? Sienna, are you in elementary school? You're hasty and childish!"
"Whatever," Sienna shrugged. "I've made up my mind. I want to break up."
Josiah grew anxious. "Can you be reasonable? Weren't you at fault this morning?"
"Well, I was wrong," Sienna admitted. "I shouldn't have knocked over Yvette's pancakes."
Josiah saw her insincerity. "You admit your mistake quickly, but do you really feel you were wrong? A half-hearted apology is unnecessary."
"It's not thatโฆ" Sienna chuckled, "I truly know I was wrongโฆ"
"But," Sienna interrupted, a sneer playing on her lips, "I admit my mistake, but you've upset me, and I don't want to continue with you. Let's call it quits."
She finished her milk and stood up.
"Sit down!" Josiah grabbed her wrist, pulling her back down.
"Really?" Sienna was shocked and angry. "Mr. Flynn, can't you take a loss? We agreed from the start that if either of us got tired of this relationship, we could end it anytime. You promised that yourself." She raised an eyebrow. "What, a real man's word isn't his bond?"
Josiah was speechless.
"Sienna!" Rosie appeared at the door. "Are you done? I'm here to pick you up."
"Yep," Sienna smiled, freeing herself from Josiah. "Mr. Flynn, I'm displeased with how you sided with your sweetheart and didn't stand up for me. That's just who I am. You said it yourself, remember? I'm willful and capricious. I can't stand being humiliated like that, and now I find you quite annoying. Bye!"
She trotted towards Rosie. "I'm coming! Did you wait long?"
"No, just got here."
"Sure is," Sienna linked arms with Rosie. "Let's go. It's freezing out here."
Josiah watched helplessly as Sienna walked away. He'd thought they were fine. He hadn't expected Sienna to end things so decisively.
