Chapter 227
โJoyer!โ Sirma was shocked by how strongly Joyce reacted.
โWhatโs going on here?โ Tara hurried over, surprised by the tense atmosphere between Sienna and Joyce. โItโs not right for Joyce to accept gifts, but making a scene isnโt worth it. Sheโs so young; talk to her gently.โ
โYouโre right.โ Sienna realized her impatience had overtaken her and she shouldnโt have directed her frustrations about Josiah at Joyce. Taking a deep breath, she knocked on Joyceโs bedroom door. โJoyce, Mommyโs coming in.โ
Entering, she found Joyce curled up under her blanket. Sienna approached with a smile. โJoyce, itโs Mommy. Iโm here to apologize.โ Joyce lifted a corner of the blanket to reveal her big eyes.
โIโm so sorry, Joyce,โ Sienna frowned, her eyes shining with unshed tears. โI shouldnโt have scolded you. Will you forgive me?โ
โMommy,โ Joyce whimpered, jumping into her motherโs arms. In that moment, all the tension vanished; they were close again. Joyce added, โPlease donโt scold me; it scares me.โ
โIโm truly sorry,โ Sienna felt a wave of regret wash over her, her heart softening. โIt was my mistake, and I promise it wonโt happen again.โ
As they hugged, Sienna slowly steadied herself. After a moment, she gently asked, โHow did you come to know Josiah?โ
โI met him at Flirty Hospital,โ Joyce tilted her head, recounting how sheโd been bullied and how Josiah had helped her.
Sienna thought, They met so early. Was their first meeting fate?
โJoyce,โ Sienna lovingly stroked her daughterโs head. โDo you really like Josiah?โ
โUh-huh!โ Joyce nodded. โI do.โ
โWhy do you like him?โ
โBecause Josiah is kind to me.โ
At that moment, Tara walked by, overheard, and chuckled. โWhat would a little kid like you know about who is kind or not!โ Joyce quickly defended Josiah, โAnd also, heโs very handsome!โ
โOh, dear,โ Tara laughed. โJust because heโs good-looking doesnโt mean heโs a good person.โ
Joyceโs eyes sparkled with tears as she pleaded, โMommy! Please believe me, Josiah is really a good person!โ
โAlright, alright,โ Sienna sighed. โI believe you.โ
Joyce gave Tara a triumphant look before snuggling into Siennaโs arms. โMommyโs the best!โ
Tara said, โYes, she is truly the best.โ
Now that Joyce and Sienna were reconciled, Tara felt relieved and returned to her work. That evening, Sienna spent time with Joyce. Sienna looked at the Minnie hairpins neatly arranged on the bedside table, then at the red Minnie toy in the toy cabinet. She let out a quiet, heavy sigh.
When Josiah bought those gifts, he had no idea they were for his biological daughter. What a strange nature of blood ties. Even without knowing each otherโs identities, the father and daughter had a special bond.
Closing her eyes, Sienna remembered how Josiah had looked at Joyce in the park. That genuine affection and tenderness were undeniable. It dawned on Sienna that Joyce would be loved by her dad in the same way her mom loved her; Joyce was clearly yearning for a fatherโs love.
The next day at the Lightning Dance, Rosie said, โSienna, my design has been picked!โ
โReally?โ Sienna gasped with excitement. โWhy didnโt you tell me earlier?โ
Rosie blushed. โI was afraid of jinxing it.โ
โYouโre great!โ Sienna looked at her with a playful glare. โSeems like Yvette really likes your design. Congratulations!โ
Even though Sienna wasnโt fond of Yvette, she had to admit Yvetteโs endorsement fee wasnโt cheap. For Rosieโs design to be worn at such a big eventโespecially at a marriage into the prestigious Flynn familyโRosie was on the brink of stardom.
Rosieโs smile lit up the room. โIโm just lucky!โ
โKeep up the great work.โ
โAbsolutely!โ
At noon, Rosie needed supplies. Since the dance troupe had been slow lately, Sienna decided to go with her. While they waited, Sienna bought some yarn. She planned to knit two sweatersโone small for Joyce, and one large for Josiah, as a thank you for his kindness. She split the yarn into two bundles, putting them in separate bags. The one for Joyce was to stay in Sunshine Neighborhood, while the one for Josiah was meant for Silver Beach.
Two days later, Josiah returned from Harbwood. Instead of going to Silver Beach, he came straight to the Lightning Dance from the airport without telling Sienna first.
โSienna!โ Just as Sienna and Rosie were leaving, they were surprised to see Josiah standing there in a camel-colored coat, smiling widely.
โGo ahead,โ Rosie gently nudged Sienna, cheerfully waving goodbye. โIโll take my leave.โ
Sienna ran over to him. โYouโre back? Why didnโt you let me know?โ
Josiah took her hand. โI wanted to surprise you. What do you think? Do you like it?โ Sienna gave a small smile, holding back her true feelings.
Josiah drew her closer. โTonight, weโre going out to eat.โ
They went to Lucky Dining. Josiah picked the dishes, saying, โLetโs start with these.โ As he closed the menu, a thought occurred to him, and he added, โNo ginger or cilantro.โ
Sienna sipped her water, looking up in surprise. Josiah asked, โWhy are you looking at me like that? Isnโt it you who doesnโt eat ginger or cilantro?โ He had no such dislikes.
Sienna blinked in disbelief. โHow did you know that?โ
โIsnโt it obvious?โ Josiah raised an eyebrow. โWeโve shared countless meals for years, and Iโve noticed.โ Sienna lifted her glass, taking slow sips, her emotions churning.
Josiah noticed a bag on the chair. โWhatโs this?โ
โDonโt open!โ Sienna warned, but it was too late; heโd already picked it up and opened it.
