Chapter 253
Sienna lay on the floor, not fully unconscious but too weak to speak or move. She sensed someone entering. It was the housekeeper.
โThe lights are on!โ The housekeeper stepped into the living room. She had returned to retrieve her forgotten phone, but upon entering, she saw Sienna on the floor.
โMs. Shaw?โ The housekeeper, momentarily stunned, rushed over. โMs. Shaw!โ Seeing Siennaโs tightly shut eyes and pale face, she panicked. โMs. Shaw, whatโs happening? Ms. Shaw, please wake up!โ
The housekeeper worriedly thought, What should I do? Mr. Flynn isnโt home. I should call an ambulance. I also need to inform community security; otherwise, the ambulance won't be able to enter.
Around five in the morning, Josiah left a gathering at Mousea House. He drove back to Silver Beach, smelling of alcohol, planning a shower, a change of clothes, and perhaps a short nap.
As he passed the community gate, the security guard, momentarily stunned, said, โMr. Flynn, youโre back?โ
โYeah,โ Josiah nodded, paying little attention.
The security guard politely inquired, โMr. Flynn, is Ms. Shaw alright? Is everything fine?โ Josiah, startled, pulled over and looked at the guard closely. โWhat do you mean? Whatโs wrong with my wife?โ
The guard mused, Itโs interesting; Mr. Flynn always calls Ms. Shaw his wife, but she corrects me. I wonder if theyโre married. He quickly replied, โYour wife was taken to the hospital last night. Didnโt you know?โ He assumed Josiah had already been informed.
Josiahโs eyes narrowed in shock. โWhich hospital?โ
The guard, surprised by Josiah's lack of knowledge, stammered, โHarbwood Hospital.โ
With a screech of tires, the black Bentley made a U-turn and sped away.
At the hospital, Sienna had just awakened and immediately called Dr. Nelson, her ovulation-inducing medication prescriber. She recounted the events of the previous night, concluding, โThatโs it. Iโm at the hospital now.โ
Dr. Nelson replied, โThese are your ovulation days. If the reaction is too severe and you donโt get pregnant, I wouldnโt recommend continuing the medication.โ
Sienna paused. โWeโll see then. Thank you, Dr. Nelson.โ Hanging up, she sighed. It seemed the harder she tried, the more elusive her desires became.
Outside, Sienna heard voices. Josiah had arrived and met the doctor. His usually sharp features showed fatigue and deep worry. โHowโs my wife? What caused her to faint?โ
The doctor explained, โAt first glance, Mrs. Flynn seems weak and has low energy levels. I suggest a detailed medical check-up today.โ
โOkay,โ Josiah nodded and entered the room.
A nurse was helping Sienna drink water. Seeing him, Sienna smiled. โYouโre here.โ She continued sipping.
Josiah gazed at her makeup-free face, pale in the morning light. Her thin frame seemed even more fragile. His heart ached.
After the nurse helped Sienna lie down, Josiah sat on the bedโs edge and gently held her hand. His words caught in his throat. โSiennaโฆ Iโm sorry.โ
I acted so foolishly! he thought. My jealousy made me ignore her calls. She must have felt terrified and helpless. He shuddered at the thought. He leaned down, wrapping her in the blanket. โIโm sorry.โ
Sienna, too tired to resist, remained still. She recalled a similar situation four years ago. This man, never there when she needed him.
Josiah, his face full of regret and fear, said, โSienna, never again. No matter what, I wonโt ignore your calls.โ
โJosiah,โ Sienna said.
โHmm? What is it?โ he asked.
Sienna chuckled, her cheeks in his hands. โI was just wonderingโฆ have you ever not picked up Yvetteโs call?โ
Josiah froze. Siennaโs soft smile hurt him more than tears or yelling.
โSienna, I was wrong. Please forgive me,โ Josiah pleaded. โThere wonโt be a next time!โ
Sienna smiled, allowing his embrace. โAlright, you said it yourself.โ
Josiah hugged her tightly. โI wonโt dare again, never again.โ He helped her lie down and suggested, โThe doctor said we need a detailed check-up.โ
โNo need!โ Sienna refused. โI donโt want a check-up.โ
Josiah gently coaxed, โLetโs find out whatโs wrong, be good.โ
Sienna shook her head. โIโm just weak from dieting. Iโm fine.โ
Despite his pleas, she remained adamant. Josiah, exasperated yet charmed by her stubbornness, conceded. โAlright, no check-up. But next time you have symptoms, you must come to the hospital immediately, no excuses, okay?โ
Sienna glanced at him. โOkay.โ There might not even be a next time, she thought. The doctor, without the check-up, gave her discharge instructions.
That evening, after dinner, Sienna said, โCarry me.โ
Josiah playfully tapped her nose, then obediently squatted. โYouโre so lazy. Okay.โ Sienna smiled and lay on his back.
โLetโs go!โ Josiah said, standing. But he suddenly stopped, muscles tense, a rush of heat surging through him.
