Chapter 260
โAh!โ Sienna, too engrossed in her phone call, misstepped and sank her right foot into a puddle. The biting winter cold instantly enveloped her foot. Her white sneakers were soaked; water sloshed inside as she frantically retrieved them. The chill went right through her. The call had been disconnected. She had not forgotten the call, but realized it had ended. None of her guessesโwrong number, prank, annoying adโfelt right. โWho was it?โ she wondered.
Just then, Josiah arrived. His car was parked by the roadside, and he hurried to her, taking her hand. โLetโs go.โ
He opened the car door, but Sienna hesitated. She grasped his arm. โWait a second.โ
โWhatโs wrong?โ he asked.
Sienna didnโt answer, pulling off her wet shoe. Josiah noticed her soaked footwear. โHow did you do that? Did you fall?โ
โNo,โ Sienna shook her head. โI wasnโt paying attention.โ
Josiah took her shoe and helped her into the car. Zaid was driving. Josiah gently touched Siennaโs foot, causing her to pull it away. โWhat are you doing?โ
โWhat do you mean?โ Josiah chuckled. โIโm taking off your socks. Your shoes are soaked; your socks arenโt dry!โ
โI know,โ Sienna mumbled, embarrassed, glancing at Zaid. โIโll do it myself.โ
โDonโt move.โ Josiah refused, swiftly removing her socks. โWhatโs the big deal? Iโve done it before.โ
โHey!โ Sienna blushed. โWatch what you say!โ
Josiah paused, a smirk replacing his initial action. โGot it, Iโll be quiet.โ
Sienna tried to pull her foot back, but Josiah stopped her, frowning. โDonโt move. Your foot is freezing. This isnโt normal.โ
โItโs not that bad,โ Sienna countered. โMost women are sensitive to cold, and I'm no exception. Shoes never stay warm, no matter how warm they are.โ
โIs that so?โ Josiah glanced at her other foot. โSo, this one is just as cold?โ
โPretty much,โ she replied. โThis one's a little better, since it wasn't in the water.โ
โIโll take a look.โ Before Sienna could protest, Josiah had removed her other shoe and sock.
Sienna bit her lip, her face burning. โWhatโs there to look at?โ
โYep, just as cold,โ Josiah said, his warm palm covering her foot, causing her to flinch.
โStop moving,โ Josiah said gently, his expression darkening slightly. โYour feet are ice cold. Let me warm them.โ
Sienna watched, wide-eyed, as he reached towards his waist, lifted his shirt, and gently placed her feet against his stomach.
Sienna froze, staring at his face, inches from hers. โIs that warm enough?โ he smiled, his sharp features softened in the dim light.
A wave of emotion washed over Sienna; the last person to warm her feet this way was her grandmother.
โHey, Iโm asking you a question,โ Josiah grinned, seeking praise. โAm I doing a good job?โ
Sienna nodded, her voice barely audible, afraid her emotions would overwhelm her.
Josiah, not receiving the expected praise, felt a little disappointed. With a twinkle in his eyes, he mischievously asked, โDo you have stinky feet, babe?โ
โWhat?โ Sienna was surprised. Sheโd never considered it. โNo one has ever told me my feet stink.โ
โSilly girl,โ Josiah said, holding back laughter. โWho would say that to your face? Theyโd talk behind your back.โ
Sienna, somewhat confused, agreed.
โTheyโre not like me,โ Josiah said, enjoying himself. โI always say it straight out.โ
โYouโre talking nonsense!โ Sienna was embarrassed. โLet me smell them.โ
She struggled to pull her foot away.
โIโll do it!โ Josiah couldnโt resist, bringing her foot to his nose. โMmmโฆ They smell great!โ
Sienna realized he was teasing her. โYouโre so annoying!โ She playfully kicked him. โDonโt do that again!โ
โI couldnโt help it. Your cute foot is smaller than my palm,โ Josiah laughed, kissing her foot. โIt doesnโt stink; itโs fragrant.โ
Sienna stiffened, glancing at Zaid. โDonโtโฆโ
โWhat are you afraid of?โ Josiah asked, unconcerned. โZaid canโt see us.โ
Sienna rolled her eyes.
Zaid played along. โMr. Flynn is right. Ms. Shaw, I donโt have eyes in the back of my head. You donโt have to mind me.โ
โSee?โ Josiah leaned in, his forehead touching hers. He smiled triumphantly.
They were so close Sienna could see his eyelashes. His eyes were slightly lowered, his lips curved gently in the soft car light. Siennaโs heart skipped a beat, remembering his captivating appearance. Back then, she hadnโt known he was like poison wrapped in honeyโhe would drag her into an abyss.
The next morning, Sienna awoke to find Josiah already gone. Heโd left quietly, without turning on the light. A surge of resentment welled up inside her. โWhy is he so gentle and considerate now? Why hadnโt he shown me any care all those years ago?โ she thought.
She threw off her blanket, tied her hair, and headed to the bathroom. She needed to reach Sunshine Neighborhood early for breakfast with Joyce.
After leaving Silver Beach, Sienna ordered a ride to Sunshine Neighborhood. Passing a pharmacy, she hesitated, then bought a pregnancy test. It might not be accurate yet, she knew, but she wanted some clarity. She desperately wanted to be pregnant.
