Chapter 260

โ€œAh!โ€ Sienna, too engrossed in her phone call, misstepped and sank her right foot into a puddle. The biting winter cold instantly enveloped her foot. Her white sneakers were soaked; water sloshed inside as she frantically retrieved them. The chill went right through her. The call had been disconnected. She had not forgotten the call, but realized it had ended. None of her guessesโ€”wrong number, prank, annoying adโ€”felt right. โ€œWho was it?โ€ she wondered.

Just then, Josiah arrived. His car was parked by the roadside, and he hurried to her, taking her hand. โ€œLetโ€™s go.โ€

He opened the car door, but Sienna hesitated. She grasped his arm. โ€œWait a second.โ€

โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong?โ€ he asked.

Sienna didnโ€™t answer, pulling off her wet shoe. Josiah noticed her soaked footwear. โ€œHow did you do that? Did you fall?โ€

โ€œNo,โ€ Sienna shook her head. โ€œI wasnโ€™t paying attention.โ€

Josiah took her shoe and helped her into the car. Zaid was driving. Josiah gently touched Siennaโ€™s foot, causing her to pull it away. โ€œWhat are you doing?โ€

โ€œWhat do you mean?โ€ Josiah chuckled. โ€œIโ€™m taking off your socks. Your shoes are soaked; your socks arenโ€™t dry!โ€

โ€œI know,โ€ Sienna mumbled, embarrassed, glancing at Zaid. โ€œIโ€™ll do it myself.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t move.โ€ Josiah refused, swiftly removing her socks. โ€œWhatโ€™s the big deal? Iโ€™ve done it before.โ€

โ€œHey!โ€ Sienna blushed. โ€œWatch what you say!โ€

Josiah paused, a smirk replacing his initial action. โ€œGot it, Iโ€™ll be quiet.โ€

Sienna tried to pull her foot back, but Josiah stopped her, frowning. โ€œDonโ€™t move. Your foot is freezing. This isnโ€™t normal.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s not that bad,โ€ Sienna countered. โ€œMost women are sensitive to cold, and I'm no exception. Shoes never stay warm, no matter how warm they are.โ€

โ€œIs that so?โ€ Josiah glanced at her other foot. โ€œSo, this one is just as cold?โ€

โ€œPretty much,โ€ she replied. โ€œThis one's a little better, since it wasn't in the water.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll take a look.โ€ Before Sienna could protest, Josiah had removed her other shoe and sock.

Sienna bit her lip, her face burning. โ€œWhatโ€™s there to look at?โ€

โ€œYep, just as cold,โ€ Josiah said, his warm palm covering her foot, causing her to flinch.

โ€œStop moving,โ€ Josiah said gently, his expression darkening slightly. โ€œYour feet are ice cold. Let me warm them.โ€

Sienna watched, wide-eyed, as he reached towards his waist, lifted his shirt, and gently placed her feet against his stomach.

Sienna froze, staring at his face, inches from hers. โ€œIs that warm enough?โ€ he smiled, his sharp features softened in the dim light.

A wave of emotion washed over Sienna; the last person to warm her feet this way was her grandmother.

โ€œHey, Iโ€™m asking you a question,โ€ Josiah grinned, seeking praise. โ€œAm I doing a good job?โ€

Sienna nodded, her voice barely audible, afraid her emotions would overwhelm her.

Josiah, not receiving the expected praise, felt a little disappointed. With a twinkle in his eyes, he mischievously asked, โ€œDo you have stinky feet, babe?โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ Sienna was surprised. Sheโ€™d never considered it. โ€œNo one has ever told me my feet stink.โ€

โ€œSilly girl,โ€ Josiah said, holding back laughter. โ€œWho would say that to your face? Theyโ€™d talk behind your back.โ€

Sienna, somewhat confused, agreed.

โ€œTheyโ€™re not like me,โ€ Josiah said, enjoying himself. โ€œI always say it straight out.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™re talking nonsense!โ€ Sienna was embarrassed. โ€œLet me smell them.โ€

She struggled to pull her foot away.

โ€œIโ€™ll do it!โ€ Josiah couldnโ€™t resist, bringing her foot to his nose. โ€œMmmโ€ฆ They smell great!โ€

Sienna realized he was teasing her. โ€œYouโ€™re so annoying!โ€ She playfully kicked him. โ€œDonโ€™t do that again!โ€

โ€œI couldnโ€™t help it. Your cute foot is smaller than my palm,โ€ Josiah laughed, kissing her foot. โ€œIt doesnโ€™t stink; itโ€™s fragrant.โ€

Sienna stiffened, glancing at Zaid. โ€œDonโ€™tโ€ฆโ€

โ€œWhat are you afraid of?โ€ Josiah asked, unconcerned. โ€œZaid canโ€™t see us.โ€

Sienna rolled her eyes.

Zaid played along. โ€œMr. Flynn is right. Ms. Shaw, I donโ€™t have eyes in the back of my head. You donโ€™t have to mind me.โ€

โ€œSee?โ€ Josiah leaned in, his forehead touching hers. He smiled triumphantly.

They were so close Sienna could see his eyelashes. His eyes were slightly lowered, his lips curved gently in the soft car light. Siennaโ€™s heart skipped a beat, remembering his captivating appearance. Back then, she hadnโ€™t known he was like poison wrapped in honeyโ€”he would drag her into an abyss.

The next morning, Sienna awoke to find Josiah already gone. Heโ€™d left quietly, without turning on the light. A surge of resentment welled up inside her. โ€˜Why is he so gentle and considerate now? Why hadnโ€™t he shown me any care all those years ago?โ€™ she thought.

She threw off her blanket, tied her hair, and headed to the bathroom. She needed to reach Sunshine Neighborhood early for breakfast with Joyce.

After leaving Silver Beach, Sienna ordered a ride to Sunshine Neighborhood. Passing a pharmacy, she hesitated, then bought a pregnancy test. It might not be accurate yet, she knew, but she wanted some clarity. She desperately wanted to be pregnant.
