Chapter 264
The servant announced, "Hi, Doctor. Mr. Miller is in the living room." The doctor arrived at this time every day. Though Rosie was blind, her hearing was acute; she discerned two people by their footsteps. The doctor always came with someone else, a silent companion she presumed to be an assistant or nurse.
"Ms. Miller, how are you feeling today?" the doctor asked.
"Pretty good," Rosie replied, sitting up straighter and offering a slight smile, despite her bandaged eyes.
"It's time to change your dressings," the doctor said.
"Okay, thank you," Rosie responded.
The doctor opened the medical kit and began to change the bandages. Howard watched quietly, his eyebrows furrowing with each layer removed. Rosie's swelling had lessened, but the bruising remained.
Suddenly, Hervey hurried in, whispering to Howard, "Mr. Flynn is here. He's right outside."
Howard stiffened, then nodded, rising with his cane. He glanced at Rosie before leaving.
In the yard, Josiah, hearing footsteps, turned. Seeing Howard, his eyes widened in disbelief. "Howard!"
Howard motioned to a chair, sitting down. "What brings you here?" He didn't believe Josiah had come to investigate him; he still trusted him.
Josiah, still in shock, could barely sit still. He'd followed a phone call Rosie made to Sienna. His throat tightened, and he pointed toward the house. "Is there a woman inside?"
Howard gave him a quick glance but offered no denial.
A chill ran through Josiah. He knew Howard well—a lack of denial was as good as an admission. "Is this woman Rosie?"
Howard frowned, confused. "How did you know?"
Josiah's shock intensified. He rubbed his forehead, gritting his teeth. "Howard, why the hell is Rosie here? Don't tell me you've fallen for her!"
"Nonsense," Howard snapped, cutting him off.
Josiah doubted it; even if Howard had a mistress, he wouldn't choose a married woman like Rosie. "Then what the hell is going on?"
Josiah's mind raced. He spoke quietly, "Rosie being taken by Ron was a lie, wasn't it? You took her directly from the hospital."
"Yes," Howard nodded, admitting it without hesitation.
Josiah, increasingly anxious, couldn't comprehend it. "Why? What's going on?" He paused, a realization dawning. "Wait. Could it be…"
Howard, preventing further speculation, said gravely, "She's Bobby's mother."
Josiah swallowed hard, pacing and glancing at Howard. "Didn't you say you wouldn't get involved with Bobby's mother?"
"I did," Howard sighed wearily. "But look what happened to Rosie. She has no support. If I hadn't intervened, her husband would have beaten her to death!"
Josiah remained silent. He couldn't stop Howard; Rosie was Bobby's mother. For Bobby's sake, Howard couldn't ignore her, especially considering her tragic situation, partly caused by him.
At the TV station, Sienna had already given everyone rehearsal guidance. She'd set a time for evening rehearsal in the group chat. However, Yvette was absent. As rehearsal time passed, she still hadn't arrived.
Shannon called Yvette. "Yvette, we're about to start. Are you running late? Should we reschedule?"
"Sorry," Yvette apologized. "The shoot ran long, but I'm on my way. Dinner's on me!"
Sienna and the others waited. Yvette hung up and received another call. It was her private investigator. "Ms. Young, Mr. Flynn's been frequenting a place. A woman is staying there, with bodyguards."
"We couldn't get photos," the investigator added.
"Got it. Send me the address," Yvette said.
The investigator sent the address—Glitter District. Yvette instructed her driver, "Forget the TV station. Head to Glitter District!"
Meanwhile, Josiah looked at Howard. "What exactly are you planning with Rosie? Are you thinking of something else?"
"What could I possibly be thinking?" Howard retorted. "This is purely accidental. I'm looking after her for Bobby's sake. She doesn't know it's me. Once her eyes heal, I'll handle things with Daniel. At least, that's what Bobby wants." Howard wanted Rosie alive and well for Bobby, even if Bobby couldn't call her "Mom."
Josiah nodded. "Fine. What do you need me to do?"
Hervey rushed over, panicked. "Ms. Young is here!"
Howard glanced at Josiah.
Josiah shook his head. "I found this place because Rosie called Sienna."
Howard realized Yvette's persistent suspicion. "Hervey, take Rosie out the back door. Hurry!"
"Yes, Mr. Flynn!" Hervey responded.
Yvette stormed into the yard, bodyguards trying to stop her. "Who do you think you are? Even if Howard's here, he has to listen to me!"
