Chapter 265

โ€œYvette.โ€ The bodyguard struggled to restrain himself, but there stood Howard, leaning on his cane, with Josiah close behind. Howardโ€™s presence confirmed the private detectiveโ€™s report. Yvette smirked. Everything the detective had uncovered was true! And Josiah was here! Their closeness meant Josiah was complicit in the deception.

โ€œPerfect,โ€ she nodded, her expression hardening. โ€œLetโ€™s go inside.โ€ Her eyes narrowed. โ€œI want to see what kind of woman could catch Howardโ€™s eye. If sheโ€™s truly his hidden treasure, she must be extraordinary,โ€ she muttered.

Howard suddenly grabbed her wrist, his dark eyes fixed on hers. His voice dropped to a serious tone. โ€œYou can go in, but thereโ€™s no woman there.โ€

โ€œOh?โ€ Yvette raised an eyebrow skeptically.

โ€œYes!โ€ Josiah added, supporting Howard. Howard is justโ€ฆ

โ€œShut up!โ€ Yvette snapped, interrupting him. โ€œI know youโ€™re with your brother! I donโ€™t believe either of you!โ€ She jerked her arm free, flung open the door, and stepped inside.

โ€œWhere is she? Come out!โ€ Yvette stood in the living room, scanning the space with a sharp gaze.

Only eerie silence answered her. The stillness was unnerving, suggesting the house was unoccupied.

โ€œNo, this canโ€™t be true,โ€ Yvette whispered, dashing upstairs.

โ€œHoward,โ€ Josiah glanced at Howard before following.

Yvette stormed into the master bedroom, yanking open the walk-in closet to reveal emptiness. Room after room yielded the same resultโ€”empty and untouched.

โ€œThis doesnโ€™t make sense,โ€ Yvetteโ€™s face paled as she shook her head in disbelief. Josiah followed closely.

โ€œWhere is she?โ€ Yvette turned on him, her eyes blazing. โ€œThere are clear signs someoneโ€™s been living here. Where have you hidden her?โ€ The rooms had been hastily cleaned; the woman and her belongings had been concealed.

Josiah frowned deeply. โ€œYvette, youโ€™re being paranoid. Thereโ€™s no one here.โ€

Yvette gasped, her voice tight with frustration and pain. โ€œJosiah, after all these years, do I not deserve the truth from you? Is your loyalty only to your brother? Are you going to help him deceive me?โ€

โ€œYvette,โ€ Josiah began.

โ€œSay something!โ€ Yvetteโ€™s eyes were red-rimmed, tears streaming down her face. Her voice cracked. โ€œPlease, just tell me the truth!โ€

Howard arrived, leaning heavily on his cane. He gently took her hand. โ€œWhat do you want Josiah to say? Youโ€™ve seen it yourself. Just stop causing a scene.โ€

โ€œCausing a scene?โ€ Yvetteโ€™s tears flowed anew. โ€œI canโ€™t believe you said that.โ€ Her gaze hardened as she locked eyes with Howard. โ€œYouโ€™re always one step ahead, arenโ€™t you? You must be glad I failed to find her.โ€ She knew Howard would be even more cautious now. โ€œIโ€™m not stupid! You know exactly what youโ€™ve done to me.โ€

She pulled away from Howard, turned, and headed downstairs. Howard called after her, โ€œLet me at least drive you home.โ€

โ€œNo need,โ€ Yvette didnโ€™t look back. Taking a deep breath, she threw the words over her shoulder. โ€œI donโ€™t want to see you or your dear brother.โ€ She stormed down the stairs.

Howard and Josiah remained frozen, as if her words had petrified them.

Howard muttered, frowning, and called his aide, Hervey. โ€œHave someone follow her and make sure she gets home safely.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t worry, Mr. Flynn. Iโ€™ll take care of it,โ€ Hervey replied.

Forty minutes past the scheduled time, Yvette still hadnโ€™t arrived at the studio. The artists grew restless.

โ€œIs she coming orโ€ฆ?โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s popular, but we all have work to do. Are we seriously waiting around for her?โ€

โ€œKeep it down.โ€

โ€œWhy? Is it okay to be late?โ€

โ€œMaybe we should have Ms. Lawrence call her again.โ€

Shannon, too, felt the pressure mounting. Gritting her teeth, she called Yvette again. The phone rang before connecting. โ€œYvette, are you stuck in traffic?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not coming,โ€ Yvetteโ€™s cold, dismissive voice cut through. She hung up before Shannon could respond.

Shannon stood stunned. What is she serious? she thought. And she didnโ€™t even explain! How am I supposed to explain this to everyone?

However, Yvette was someone she couldnโ€™t offend. Reluctantly, she entered the rehearsal room, forcing a smile. โ€œSorry, guys, Yvetteโ€™s schedule couldnโ€™t be changed, so todayโ€™s rehearsal is canceled.โ€

Complaints and murmurs erupted.

โ€œShe couldโ€™ve told us earlier. Why make everyone wait so long?โ€

โ€œDoes she think her time is more valuable than ours?โ€

Shannon apologized profusely. โ€œSorry, everyone, Iโ€™m so sorry.โ€ She turned to Sienna, her tone genuinely regretful. โ€œMs. Shaw, Iโ€™m so sorry to waste your time.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s fine,โ€ Sienna smiled calmly, far more composed than the other artists. Even if Yvette hadnโ€™t been late, she would have finished around the same time anyway. โ€œIโ€™m leaving then.โ€

โ€œTake care, Ms. Shaw,โ€ Shannon said.

In the dressing room, Sienna wondered, What was going on? Yvette had promised to come. Why didnโ€™t she show up?

Her phone buzzed. A message from Josiah five minutes prior: โ€œIโ€™m here, by the front gate.โ€

After changing, she saw Josiah by the car.

โ€œAre you tired?โ€ Josiah took her bag as she approached.

โ€œI didnโ€™t do anything tonight,โ€ Sienna shook her head, her gaze assessing. โ€œYvette didnโ€™t show up. She made everyone wait. Do you know what happened?โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ Josiah tilted his head, a smirk playing on his lips. โ€œHow would I know?โ€

Seeing her doubt, he grinned. โ€œAre you testing me? I really donโ€™t know. If youโ€™re curious, I could ask Howard.โ€ He pulled out his phone.

โ€œNo need!โ€ Sienna grabbed his arm. She couldnโ€™t disturb Howard so late over this.

โ€œAre you sure?โ€ Josiah raised an eyebrow, teasingly. โ€œIโ€™m afraid you donโ€™t trust me and might get jealous over something ridiculous.โ€

โ€œShut up!โ€ Sienna glared before getting into the car.

Josiah watched her, his smile fading. Sorry, Siennaโ€ฆ Please forgive me for not telling you the full truth. Itโ€™s about Howard, and then thereโ€™s Rosieโ€ฆ

As Sienna settled in, she remembered something. โ€œDid you find out who owns that phone number?โ€

Josiah nodded, his fingers tapping the steering wheel. โ€œSorry, Sienna. I found outโ€ฆโ€
