Chapter 265
โYvette.โ The bodyguard struggled to restrain himself, but there stood Howard, leaning on his cane, with Josiah close behind. Howardโs presence confirmed the private detectiveโs report. Yvette smirked. Everything the detective had uncovered was true! And Josiah was here! Their closeness meant Josiah was complicit in the deception.
โPerfect,โ she nodded, her expression hardening. โLetโs go inside.โ Her eyes narrowed. โI want to see what kind of woman could catch Howardโs eye. If sheโs truly his hidden treasure, she must be extraordinary,โ she muttered.
Howard suddenly grabbed her wrist, his dark eyes fixed on hers. His voice dropped to a serious tone. โYou can go in, but thereโs no woman there.โ
โOh?โ Yvette raised an eyebrow skeptically.
โYes!โ Josiah added, supporting Howard. Howard is justโฆ
โShut up!โ Yvette snapped, interrupting him. โI know youโre with your brother! I donโt believe either of you!โ She jerked her arm free, flung open the door, and stepped inside.
โWhere is she? Come out!โ Yvette stood in the living room, scanning the space with a sharp gaze.
Only eerie silence answered her. The stillness was unnerving, suggesting the house was unoccupied.
โNo, this canโt be true,โ Yvette whispered, dashing upstairs.
โHoward,โ Josiah glanced at Howard before following.
Yvette stormed into the master bedroom, yanking open the walk-in closet to reveal emptiness. Room after room yielded the same resultโempty and untouched.
โThis doesnโt make sense,โ Yvetteโs face paled as she shook her head in disbelief. Josiah followed closely.
โWhere is she?โ Yvette turned on him, her eyes blazing. โThere are clear signs someoneโs been living here. Where have you hidden her?โ The rooms had been hastily cleaned; the woman and her belongings had been concealed.
Josiah frowned deeply. โYvette, youโre being paranoid. Thereโs no one here.โ
Yvette gasped, her voice tight with frustration and pain. โJosiah, after all these years, do I not deserve the truth from you? Is your loyalty only to your brother? Are you going to help him deceive me?โ
โYvette,โ Josiah began.
โSay something!โ Yvetteโs eyes were red-rimmed, tears streaming down her face. Her voice cracked. โPlease, just tell me the truth!โ
Howard arrived, leaning heavily on his cane. He gently took her hand. โWhat do you want Josiah to say? Youโve seen it yourself. Just stop causing a scene.โ
โCausing a scene?โ Yvetteโs tears flowed anew. โI canโt believe you said that.โ Her gaze hardened as she locked eyes with Howard. โYouโre always one step ahead, arenโt you? You must be glad I failed to find her.โ She knew Howard would be even more cautious now. โIโm not stupid! You know exactly what youโve done to me.โ
She pulled away from Howard, turned, and headed downstairs. Howard called after her, โLet me at least drive you home.โ
โNo need,โ Yvette didnโt look back. Taking a deep breath, she threw the words over her shoulder. โI donโt want to see you or your dear brother.โ She stormed down the stairs.
Howard and Josiah remained frozen, as if her words had petrified them.
Howard muttered, frowning, and called his aide, Hervey. โHave someone follow her and make sure she gets home safely.โ
โDonโt worry, Mr. Flynn. Iโll take care of it,โ Hervey replied.
Forty minutes past the scheduled time, Yvette still hadnโt arrived at the studio. The artists grew restless.
โIs she coming orโฆ?โ
โSheโs popular, but we all have work to do. Are we seriously waiting around for her?โ
โKeep it down.โ
โWhy? Is it okay to be late?โ
โMaybe we should have Ms. Lawrence call her again.โ
Shannon, too, felt the pressure mounting. Gritting her teeth, she called Yvette again. The phone rang before connecting. โYvette, are you stuck in traffic?โ
โIโm not coming,โ Yvetteโs cold, dismissive voice cut through. She hung up before Shannon could respond.
Shannon stood stunned. What is she serious? she thought. And she didnโt even explain! How am I supposed to explain this to everyone?
However, Yvette was someone she couldnโt offend. Reluctantly, she entered the rehearsal room, forcing a smile. โSorry, guys, Yvetteโs schedule couldnโt be changed, so todayโs rehearsal is canceled.โ
Complaints and murmurs erupted.
โShe couldโve told us earlier. Why make everyone wait so long?โ
โDoes she think her time is more valuable than ours?โ
Shannon apologized profusely. โSorry, everyone, Iโm so sorry.โ She turned to Sienna, her tone genuinely regretful. โMs. Shaw, Iโm so sorry to waste your time.โ
โItโs fine,โ Sienna smiled calmly, far more composed than the other artists. Even if Yvette hadnโt been late, she would have finished around the same time anyway. โIโm leaving then.โ
โTake care, Ms. Shaw,โ Shannon said.
In the dressing room, Sienna wondered, What was going on? Yvette had promised to come. Why didnโt she show up?
Her phone buzzed. A message from Josiah five minutes prior: โIโm here, by the front gate.โ
After changing, she saw Josiah by the car.
โAre you tired?โ Josiah took her bag as she approached.
โI didnโt do anything tonight,โ Sienna shook her head, her gaze assessing. โYvette didnโt show up. She made everyone wait. Do you know what happened?โ
โWhat?โ Josiah tilted his head, a smirk playing on his lips. โHow would I know?โ
Seeing her doubt, he grinned. โAre you testing me? I really donโt know. If youโre curious, I could ask Howard.โ He pulled out his phone.
โNo need!โ Sienna grabbed his arm. She couldnโt disturb Howard so late over this.
โAre you sure?โ Josiah raised an eyebrow, teasingly. โIโm afraid you donโt trust me and might get jealous over something ridiculous.โ
โShut up!โ Sienna glared before getting into the car.
Josiah watched her, his smile fading. Sorry, Siennaโฆ Please forgive me for not telling you the full truth. Itโs about Howard, and then thereโs Rosieโฆ
As Sienna settled in, she remembered something. โDid you find out who owns that phone number?โ
Josiah nodded, his fingers tapping the steering wheel. โSorry, Sienna. I found outโฆโ
