Chapter 289
“Dorian?” Josiah’s sleepiness vanished instantly. “How is Sienna connected to him?”
“You really don’t know?”
“Of course not!” Until this moment, Josiah had been unaware of Sienna’s acquaintance with Dorian.
Yosef dropped his teasing tone, his voice serious. “I heard Sienna was seeking Dorian’s help with asset transfers and real estate deals. What do you think she’s up to?”
Josiah gripped his phone, his face darkening. “Where is she transferring…”
Some medical tests required fasting, preventing them from being performed that day. The nurse scheduled Sienna for an appointment the following morning. Needing to wake early, Sienna decided to spend the night at Rosie’s, who would accompany her.
Although Rosie was blind and couldn't offer practical assistance, her presence eased Sienna’s loneliness. In Jelacrity, they were each other's only friends.
Before bed, Sienna received a message:
Dorian: [Come by my office the day after tomorrow to sign the necessary documents.]
Sienna: [Alright.]
If her hospital exam went well the next day, she and Joyce could finally leave Jelacrity that week. Sienna opened a flight booking app, oblivious to the impending crisis.
In the middle of the night, Sienna awoke with severe abdominal pain, clutching her belly. She tried to endure it, but the pain was overwhelming. A cry escaped her lips, and fear gripped her.
“Sienna?” Rosie, hearing her, reached out, taking Sienna’s arm. “What’s wrong? Did you call out?”
“Yes,” Sienna replied weakly, unable to conceal the severity of her pain. Her body stiffened as she clung to Rosie’s hand. “Rosie! I think something is really wrong!”
Rosie blinked, worry and helplessness etched on her face. “What’s happening?”
“I’m bleeding.” Unlike the light bleeding earlier, this was profuse; the blood flowed freely.
“What should we do?” Rosie panicked, feeling utterly helpless. Having given the home helper the night off since Sienna was staying over, they were alone.
Fighting through the pain, Sienna inhaled sharply, grabbed her phone, and dialed emergency services. Twenty minutes later, the ambulance arrived, transporting Sienna to the hospital with Rosie accompanying her.
“Doctor, how am I?” Sienna lay weakly on the examination bed in the ER.
The doctor, reviewing the emergency report, looked at Sienna gravely. “Where is your family?”
A chill ran through Sienna, her heart pounding. “Is there something wrong with my baby?”
The doctor replied frankly, “Yes, you have an ectopic pregnancy.”
Sienna’s mind reeled. Startled, she sat up, gripping the bed’s edge. “That’s impossible! This can’t be happening!”
The doctor sighed softly. “I understand your feelings. But your back pain, abdominal discomfort, and bleeding are all classic symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy.”
Each word struck Sienna, shattering her heart. Darkness clouded her vision as she closed her eyes. Despair enveloped her. The doctor continued, “You’re losing a lot of blood and need emergency surgery immediately!”
The bleeding and pain risked shock, ruptured fallopian tubes, or even death. “Where is your husband?” the doctor asked again. “You need a family member to sign the consent form for the surgery.”
Sienna answered, “I don’t have any family. Just give me the form, and I’ll sign it myself.” Even if Josiah were present, he wasn’t her legal husband, and he was far away.
The doctor hesitated, having witnessed many heartbreaking cases, fearing Sienna was another victim of betrayal. The doctor obtained the form and handed it to Sienna for her signature. “The nurse will be here soon to prepare you for surgery.” She took the signed form and left the ER.
“Sienna,” Rosie sat gently beside her, holding her hand.
“Rosie!” Sienna’s eyes grew heavy; she could no longer restrain her emotions, breaking down and clinging to Rosie. “I… I…” Her voice cracked, tears streaming down her face.
“I know, I know,” Rosie hugged her, gently patting her back. Sienna deeply desired this baby for Joyce’s sake, and now…
Half an hour later, Sienna was taken into the operating room. As the bright lights illuminated her face, she instinctively closed her eyes. She heard the doctor’s soothing voice. “Don’t be scared. Surgery for an ectopic pregnancy isn’t terribly frightening. It’s a common procedure, usually taking only one to two hours. You’re still young. After surgery and recovery, it won’t affect your chances of having children in the future.”
At these words, tears flowed down Sienna’s face. The doctor didn’t truly grasp her fear—it wasn’t for herself, but for Joyce. Joyce had fought so hard just to remain healthy. Life had been so unfair to Joyce.
Two hours later, Sienna emerged from surgery and was taken to a hospital room. Rosie remained at her side. Rosie took Sienna’s hand and softly said, “It will be alright.”
Sienna, still groggy from anesthesia, managed a faint, “Mm…”
Rosie spoke through her tears, “Just sleep. I’m here with you.”
Sienna closed her eyes, tears escaping. At six in the morning, Josiah arrived at City Pearl. Reaching the door, he encountered the home helper.
The home helper, returning from the market with fresh ingredients, was surprised to see Josiah. “Mr. Flynn, you’re back from your trip! Oh, is it because Ms. Shaw…”
