Chapter 290
The home helper exclaimed, โMs. Shaw had surgery last night, and youโve already come today!โ She continued, โBefore dawn, Ms. Miller called to inform me about Ms. Shawโs operation and asked me to buy more food.โ She gestured vaguely towards Josiah.
Josiahโs expression darkened. He asked, โWhat surgery? What happened to Sienna?โ
The home helper blinked in surprise. โMr. Flynn, you donโt know?โ
โIโm asking you!โ Josiahโs sudden shout echoed, his face tense with anger.
The home helper, startled, quickly replied, โI donโt know much. Ms. Miller only said she would stay at the hospital with Ms. Shaw for the next few days and asked me to pack some clothes.โ Josiah forced himself to control his anger, but he was on the verge of losing it. โWhich hospital?โ he pressed. โYou must know that, right?โ
Yes.
At the hospital, Sienna woke from anesthesia, feeling much better. Rosie supported her arm and helped her sit up. โDoes the wound hurt? If not, letโs have you walk a little.โ The doctor had suggested Sienna get out of bed and move around to prevent complications. Sienna felt her condition and shook her head. โIt doesnโt hurt.โ
โThatโs great,โ Rosie said, helping her stand. โI canโt see, so hold one hand on the bedโs edge and the other on me as you walk slowly.โ โAlright.โ Sienna used her arm for support, taking small steps around the bed. Her phone rang; it was Tara.
Tara complained, her voice full of indignation, โJoyce has been naughty. She secretly threw away the lettuce and carrots from her sandwichโฆโ โTara, I was wrong! I promise I wonโt do it again!โ
Tara handed the phone to Joyce. Hearing her daughterโs soft, sweet voice made Sienna cry. โOh, my dear Joyce.โ
Joyce quickly admitted, โI was wrong. Iโll eat my vegetables! Mommy, please donโt be angry, okay?โ
โMm, Mommy isnโt angryโฆโ Sienna, normally strict, found herself unable to be stern. โMommyโs the best, Tara. Mommy forgave you!โ
โThen youโd better keep your word! You need to behave.โ
โI know! Mommy, Iโm off to eat my vegetables!โ
โGo on, Joyce.โ As soon as the call ended, tears streamed down Siennaโs face. Just yesterday, she had been thinking about Joyceโs future. In one night, her dream had been crushed. As a mother, she couldnโt give her daughter a healthy body, and she had hoped for another child to help Joyce, but she had never been able to. She couldnโt bring herself to scold Joyce. Those years in Fliraty, she had once thought she wouldnโt survive. Sienna had never truly known comfort and peace, especially during those years of suffering; yet, even that hadn't broken her. But now, she never expected that her struggles had not only continued but had also been passed onto her daughter. The more she thought about it, the more her heart ached. She worried about Joyceโs future. Clenching her fists, she felt unbearable pain.
Rosie, sensing her pain, began to cry with her. โBoth she and I just want to live normal lives, yet itโs so hard. The bond between a mother and her child is fragile,โ Rosie said.
Sienna thought, โMy intentions werenโt pure. The child knew it had come into this world to save its sister, and because of that, it didnโt want to arrive. Thatโs why it wouldnโt stay with me!โ
In desperation, Sienna closed her eyes. โI couldnโt keep my baby, my dear babyโฆ Iโm so sorryโฆโ
The ward door suddenly flew open, and Josiah stood in the doorway. โJosiahโฆโ Sienna was taken aback, staring at him in disbelief. He was supposed to be far away, at least a week, but it had only been a few days.
Josiahโs expression was blank as he focused on Sienna. He stepped closer, stopping before her. His eyes fixed on hers. โEarlier, you mentioned not keeping the baby; what do you mean by that?โ
Sienna stiffened, unable to speak. โNot going to talk!โ Josiah raised his chin, appearing indifferent. โAlright, let me ask you. Whatโs this about selling properties and moving your assets to Fliraty?โ
Panic filled Siennaโs eyes. She wondered how Josiah found out. Josiah scoffed. โEver since I returned from London, Iโve wondered what made you move your assets to Fliraty.โ He squinted. โAre you planning to leave me and escape to Fliraty?โ
Before Sienna could respond, he grabbed her shoulders tightly. โLook at me! I want to hear the truth!โ
โThe truth?โ Her emotions spiraled out of control at his accusations, her eyes burning. โDonโt you already know? What else do you want me to say?โ Josiah felt as if heโd been struck by lightning. She admitted it. She really wanted to leave him. He suddenly recalled her actions over the past few days.
Josiah laughed bitterly. โSo all this time, you were playing a role, lowering my guard, waiting to leave Jeiacrity! You never meant to stay with me forever!โ
โIndeed,โ Sienna raised her chin, meeting his gaze with determination.
Josiah felt like he couldnโt breathe. He was shocked and hurt. โVery well!โ His gaze dropped to her abdomen. โWhat about our baby? Is it gone? Did youโฆ terminate it?โ
โYes!โ Sienna said without hesitation. Josiah staggered back, releasing Sienna, disbelief etched on his face. On his way, he had thought no matter how Sienna felt, he couldnโt let her leave. He was ready to do anything to keep her. But now she had ended their child. โSienna,โ Josiah gathered himself, his voice cold. โFine, as you wish; weโre breaking up! Iโm giving up on you.โ He declared, โTo leave me, you ended our child. How cold-hearted you are!โ In an instant, he stormed out.
