Chapter 31
Henry was in a panic. "Mr. Flynn! The dressing room is full of girls; it's not quite appropriate for you to enter like that!"
This successfully halted Josiah's advance. Indeed, barging in might lead to witnessing things he shouldn't. He turned, looking down at Henry with a cold gaze. "It seems you're not willing to give her up, are you?"
Henry plastered a smile on his face. "I profit from this sense of mystery. Please forgive me. If you'd do me the honor and support her, I'll save you a spot. She'll be grateful."
Josiah sneered. Henry was a shrewd man; he wouldn't tear the place apart over a dancer.
Josiah's eyes held a smile devoid of warmth. "Support her? That depends on whether she has the ability."
With that, he strode out. He didn't believe a dancer could truly captivate him.
"Mr. Flynn, take care! Come again!" Henry bowed deeply, seeing Josiah off the premises.
After leaving Maze, Josiah didn't return to Silver Beach. Instead, he went to the south of the city. Miranda had just undergone surgery, and he needed to keep vigil.
Miranda had passed the critical period, but she was still very weak. She slept more than she was awake. Nurses and caregivers were naturally with her at night. Josiah's visit was mainly to guard against any unforeseen circumstances. Fortunately, the night passed smoothly.
As dawn broke, Josiah was awakened by his alarm. He had an important meeting that morning requiring preparation. He took the clothes Zach had brought and went into the bathroom to shower.
Meanwhile, Sienna arrived at Miranda's hospital room door, about to open it.
"Excuse me, are you...?" someone tapped her shoulder from behind.
Sienna turned and smiled. "Hello, Yosef."
Yosef was somewhat surprised. "You know me?"
Another person who didn't recognize her. Sienna was used to it. She was about to introduce herself: "I am..."
"Sienna!" Unexpectedly, Yosef uttered her name.
"It's me," Sienna nodded with a smile.
Yosef was quite amazed, generous with his praise. "You've changed so much in Fliraty. You're so beautiful I can't recognize you."
"You flatter me," Sienna said.
"Here to see Miranda?" Yosef asked.
"Coincidentally, I am too. Let's go in together."
"Sure."
Yosef gallantly opened the door and let her precede him. "After you."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome."
Inside the room, the nurse was performing Miranda's morning care. The nurse pointed to the sofa for Sienna. "Have a seat for a while."
"Okay." Sienna sat down.
"Would you like something to drink?" Yosef asked.
"No," she began, but Yosef had already gotten up and gone to the kitchen. He returned with two cups of coffee.
He placed one in front of her. "Is this okay?"
"That's fine, thank you," Sienna picked up the cup.
Yosef smiled at her. "Try it."
"Okay," Sienna took a sip. It was so bitter she instinctively frowned.
Yosef considerately asked, "What's wrong? Black coffee; I didn't add anything. Not used to it? Would you like some cream?"
"No trouble is needed," Sienna replied.
"It's no trouble at all," Yosef said, getting the cream and pouring it into Sienna's cup. "Is that enough?" he asked.
"That's enough, that's enough," Sienna answered.
"Ah, I poured too much," Yosef pretended to spill more, teasing Sienna, who was startled by his prank.
Yosef laughed. "Just kidding."
Sienna realized and looked at him helplessly. "You startled me!"
"Haha, are you a mouse?" Yosef joked.
The bathroom door opened. What Josiah saw was Sienna and Yosef sitting on the sofa, laughing together. He stopped abruptly.
His gaze fell on Sienna's face. Due to the height difference, she looked up with a slightly curved mouth, her smile soft and gentle. In his memory, she had never smiled at him like that. With him, she only had endless entanglement and questioning. It turned out she could smile like this, just not with him.
For no apparent reason, Josiah's mood soured. He walked straight to the sofa and glanced at Yosef, saying, "Morning." He blatantly ignored Sienna.
"Morning," Yosef replied.
The hospital room door swung open, revealing Chester and James bringing breakfast. Yosef had mentioned to Josiah that he was coming, so they had prepared a meal for him. However, they were unaware Sienna would be joining them.
As Chester set down the breakfast, he stated honestly, "There are only two servings."
Upon hearing this, Yosef quickly said, "That's fine. Sienna, come and eat. I'll give you my share."
Josiah was taken aback. When had they become so close?
"No need..." Sienna said, naturally wanting to decline.
"No!" The voice, however, belonged to Josiah.
Yosef was stunned, looking awkwardly at the two. He glared at Josiah and whispered harshly, "What are you doing? Is it really necessary?" Yosef knew Josiah didn't like Sienna, but it was just breakfast; it shouldn't be a big deal.
With that, Yosef took his own breakfast and placed it in front of Sienna. "Don't mind him. If you don't eat, it's like you're not giving me face."
Sienna hesitated, helpless, and finally accepted it. "Well, thank you."
"You're welcome," Yosef grinned at her.
Josiah, amused by his expression, curved her lips slightly, revealing two shallow dimples at the corners of her mouth. That smile again. Josiah frowned, a small flame flickering in his eyes. He was about to flare upโ
"Mmm, mmm..." Suddenly, there came Miranda's pained whimpers.
The three of them jolted, their expressions instantly tense as they all stood up and rushed into the room.
"Miranda, it's okay, we'll help you change the bedsheets and clean you up," the nurse said.
"Mmm, mmm!" Miranda clung to her arms, shaking her head in resistance.
"What's going on?" Josiah strode over, his face pale as he questioned the nurse.
"It's like this..." the nurse explained.
It turned out that Miranda had just had her catheter removed last night, but the anesthesia hadn't completely worn off, and she had just lost control of her bladder. Miranda, who had always been strong-willed, couldn't accept it for a moment.
Josiah frowned, unsure of what to do. "Miranda, listen to the nurse and cooperate with them."
Miranda didn't speak, just kept shaking her head in resistance and closed her eyes.
"Let me do it," Sienna stepped forward, her hand reaching under the blanket to hold Miranda's hand. "Miranda, it's me, Sienna. Let me help you, okay? I'm not an outsider, and if my grandmother were still alive, I would take care of her like this."
Miranda opened her eyes and tightly gripped her hand. The night before, although she hadn't regained consciousness, she had felt Sienna suck the phlegm out of her mouth. Not even a granddaughter might do that. At least her own grandson hadn't. Josiah did care about her, but only Sienna had thought of this method.
"Okay," Miranda nodded with tears in her eyes.
Sienna waved to the others. "You all go out; I can handle it alone."
"Alright." The nurses and orderlies turned and left. Josiah and Yosef followed, and as the door closed, he glanced at Sienna. His expression was complex, indescribable.
