Chapter 40
“Today, Mr. Flynn didn’t show up, and I was a little worried…” Henry waved his hand, clearly agitated. “But look at this! I was worrying for nothing. Even though Mr. Flynn didn’t come, he’s still thinking about you.”
“Is that so?” Sienna smiled, but inwardly, she found it ridiculous. When she was his wife, he hadn’t even cared to look at her. Now that she wore a mask, he seemed genuinely intrigued.
Who would have thought Josiah would develop an interest in a dancer? She wondered what his reaction would be once he saw the face behind the mask. Disappointment? Or perhaps he’d fly into a rage? Either way, it probably wouldn’t be good.
It was Monday again, Sienna’s day off. She had contacted Miranda earlier, letting her know she would come over for company and even stay the night. Miranda was thrilled and readily agreed.
Early that morning, Sienna packed her bag and headed over. Miranda had just woken up and was surprised to see Sienna so early. “Sienna, you’re here so early! You’re young; don’t you want to sleep in?”
“I have plenty of time to sleep. This day doesn’t matter to me,” Sienna said, sitting down by the bed. Seeing Miranda in good spirits, she finally spoke, having considered her words for days.
“Grandma,” Sienna took Miranda’s hand gently. “I have something to tell you. Please promise me you won’t get emotional; these are my heartfelt words.”
“Oh?” Seeing her so serious made Miranda smile. “Alright, since these are your heartfelt words, I’m all ears.”
“Then I’ll begin.”
“Go ahead.”
Sienna’s eyes reddened slightly. “I’m really grateful to you for adopting me all those years ago. If it weren’t for you, I probably wouldn’t have been able to keep dancing, and I might have been forced into the real world too soon.”
She barely managed to get the words out before choking up.
“Oh, child.” Miranda was moved. “To me, you’re just like Howard and Josiah.”
“You’ve always been so kind to me,” Sienna bit her lip, gathering her courage. “Why don’t you be kind to me just once more?”
“What?” Miranda looked confused, not grasping her meaning. Thinking Sienna might be asking for a favor, she nodded eagerly. “Alright, what is it? Whatever it is, I will definitely agree.”
“Then, I need to thank you in advance,” Sienna took a deep breath. “Please agree to let us get a divorce.”
“What?” Miranda was shocked, staring at her in disbelief. “Sienna, do you know what you’re saying!”
“Yes, I know,” Sienna nodded through her tears. “I used to really like Josiah. I liked him a lot… That was the truth, and there was no denying it. But I don’t like him anymore.”
Behind her, the bathroom door was slightly ajar. Josiah had just stepped out, but upon hearing those words, he stopped dead in his tracks.
“Sienna!” Miranda tightened her grip on Sienna’s hand.
“Moreover,” Sienna felt a dull ache in her chest as she continued, “you know he doesn’t like me. He never did. The one he likes is Yvette, after all.” Miranda froze, her mouth slightly open, realizing she had no counterargument. “You… you…” So she had always known!
Sienna cried silently, tears spilling down her cheeks. “I just want to find someone who really likes me, to experience what it’s like to be loved and cared for. Please, show me the same compassion and help me out here.”
Tears filled Miranda’s eyes. “I failed you, Sienna.”
The fact that her two grandsons had fallen for the same woman wasn’t a secret in Jelacrity; it had become the subject of much gossip. To be honest, Miranda had always hoped for Sienna and Josiah to end up together; part of it was affection for Sienna, but she also had her own selfish reasons.
