Chapter 39

“Grandma?” Josiah’s voice was preoccupied. “What’s the matter?”

“What’s the matter! You did a good job!” Miranda’s anger erupted. “You need to get over here—right now!” She hung up.

Sienna returned with the dirty laundry, sensing Miranda’s distress. “Miranda, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”

“Sienna,” Miranda grasped her hand, tears welling. “How could you endure this injustice and not tell me?” She held up the phone. “Gilbert has been pressuring you to handle the maintenance and transfer paperwork!”

Sienna’s heart sank. She had messed up.

“Grandma, what’s so urgent?” Josiah arrived, still oblivious.

Seeing Miranda seemingly calm but noticing Sienna’s proximity, anxiety washed over him.

“You come here,” Miranda commanded, suppressing her fury. “Come here in front of me.”

“Oh, alright,” Josiah, unsure what was happening, couldn't ignore Miranda’s order. He dropped everything and rushed over.

As soon as Josiah approached, he opened his mouth, but before he could speak, Miranda slapped him.

“Grandma,” Josiah stared, dazed. “Why did you hit me?”

“Why?” Miranda scoffed, her seriousness unprecedented in years. An ominous feeling crept over Josiah.

“Josiah, do you think you don’t need to discuss anything with me anymore?” Miranda asked.

“What’s the matter?” Josiah didn’t understand. Hadn’t Miranda stopped inquiring about the Flynn Group’s affairs long ago? He’d handed over the family business to Yvelle years earlier.

“Grandma, be clear.” He suddenly remembered something and looked at Sienna, who remained silent. Could it be…? Sienna’s eyes dropped, avoiding his gaze. Panic seized Josiah. “Sienna, you…”

“Shut up!” Miranda interrupted. “You dare to yell at Sienna? So you don’t want her anymore, or is it her fault?”

Josiah’s brows furrowed. His irritation was palpable. He glared at Sienna. “What did we talk about! You promised me, and now you’re going back on your word! Running to Grandma to complain!” Since Miranda already knew, he had no reason to hide it.

Sienna opened her mouth, unable to explain. Though she hadn’t complained, it was because of her… She should have kept her phone away. Bowing her head, she whispered, “I’m sorry.”

“I’m sorry?” Josiah’s anger flared. His cold laugh bit. “Grandma is this angry, and you think you can just take no responsibility?” “That’s enough!” Miranda intervened. “Josiah, even if I end up sick from being angry, the responsibility lies with you, not with…”

“Grandma…” Josiah felt helpless. Who was truly her grandson, him or Sienna?

“A divorce?” Miranda’s eyes reddened, her voice trembling. “How could you promise me that? Yes, Sienna made a mistake, but she’s been abroad for four years! Is that not enough?”

“Grandma,” Josiah rubbed his forehead. “You’re only considering her, what about me! Have you thought that I don’t like her?” “Then who do you like?” Miranda retorted, her gaze piercing.

Josiah was speechless.

Miranda let out a faint, cold laugh, but spared her grandson some dignity. “You say I forced you to marry Sienna. I ask you, didn’t you nod back then? You agreed to it!”

She had been trying to matchmake Sienna and her grandson, but if Josiah hadn’t agreed, what could she, as his grandmother, have done to force him?

Recalling the past, Josiah fell silent. He couldn’t deny it. With a defeated look, he nodded. “Yes,” then quickly added, “It was my mistake; I shouldn’t…”

“Josiah,” Miranda interrupted, refusing his apology. “You’re an adult; you need to take responsibility for your decisions! Sienna is someone you chose to marry! Now you want to just back out? What do you think she is? Are you willing to exchange her lifelong happiness for your mistakes?”

Josiah had no arguments. He lowered his head.

Miranda continued. “As long as I’m alive, the Flynn family won’t allow such a childish divorce!”

Josiah pleaded. “Sienna and I really aren’t suited for each other…”

“How long have you even been together?” Miranda disagreed. “It hasn’t even been two months since your wedding, and she’s already gone. You won’t know if you’re a match unless you try!”

Suddenly, Miranda clutched her chest.

“Grandma!” Josiah and Sienna panicked, rushing to her aid. “Quick, call a doctor!”

“Got it!” Sienna darted out.

“Josiah,” Miranda grasped his hand tightly. “You can’t treat Sienna like this… I know Yvette lost her baby, and you blame her. I’m upset, but Sienna didn’t mean any harm; she has a good heart. Considering she saved my life, don’t treat her poorly! Promise me…”

“Okay, okay!” Josiah had no choice. He held Miranda’s hand and nodded repeatedly. “Don’t worry, I promise! I’ll promise you anything!”

The doctor arrived, gave Miranda an injection, and conducted checks. “There’s nothing serious; it’s just emotional distress. However, it’s best to avoid situations like this.”

“Understood. Thank you, Doctor.”

After the injection, Miranda fell asleep. Josiah stepped out of the hospital room, Sienna close behind.

“Josiah,” Sienna spoke first.

“Hmm!” Josiah gave her a cold glance. “Just say what you want to say; no need to keep complaining to Grandma.”

Sienna’s heart tightened. “I admit today was my fault, but it won’t change our divorce. I’ll say it again: whenever you’re free, I’m always…”

“Enough,” Josiah didn’t want to hear more. “You know you can’t back out now. Is it fun saying this on purpose!” Sienna was speechless. It was a convenient coincidence, leaving her speechless.

Josiah let out a short, cold laugh, glancing at her with disdain. “I don’t really get you. Is it entertaining to keep hanging onto me like this?” Without waiting for her answer, he left. Sienna stood there, baffled, rubbing her temples in frustration. She felt unlucky.

That night, at Maze, Josiah didn’t show up. Sienna returned backstage to find the makeup room door piled with flower baskets.

“Sienna,” Henry exclaimed. “Did you see? All these, plus what’s inside… they’re all from Mr. Flynn!”
