Chapter 80
Miranda was momentarily stunned. โWhat do you mean by โsomeone betterโ? Who?โ
She suspiciously sized up her grandson and asked, โWhen did you become so invested in Siennaโs affairs?โ Then she nodded. โAlright, tell me. If heโs better than Cedric, Iโll reconsider.โ
โGrandmaโฆโ Josiahโs brow twitched, feeling embarrassed. Considering his personality, once heโd said it, there was no turning back. But if he didnโt say it now, he might lose Sienna. โWhat about me? Am I good enough?โ
After he finished speaking, Miranda was stunned. She stared at him as if he were a stranger, bewildered and frozen. After a while, Mirandaโs eyes moved as she tapped her head. โIโm getting old and woozy.โ Otherwise, how could she hear something so ridiculous! She turned and walked inside, calling out, โLinda, whereโs my medicine! Itโs time for my pills.โ
Josiah, torn between laughing and crying, stopped his grandmother. โYes or no, just give me an answer.โ
โNo!โ Unexpectedly, Miranda spun around and gave him a firm answer.
โWhy?โ Josiah was shocked, unable to believe it. โHavenโt you always hoped we would be happy together?โ After all, Miranda had initially set them up as a couple.
โAre you asking me why?โ Miranda looked serious, shook her head, and said with a meaningful tone, โCome on, be kind, and stop causing trouble.โ
Josiah was taken aback. โHow am I causing trouble?โ
Miranda frowned. โIf youโre not causing trouble, then what? Are you crazy? I know you donโt like Sienna and youโre trying to meddle between her and Cedric, arenโt you?โ
โGrandmaโฆโ Josiah couldnโt get a word in.
โOh, Josiah,โ Miranda took his hand and patted it. โJust let her go. Itโs not easy for Sienna to be with someone like Cedric, but I can tell that Cedric genuinely cares for her. Sheโs lived a long life, met many people, and seen many things. Cedricโs affection for Sienna is obvious.โ
โGrandmaโฆโ Josiah felt helpless. He was paying the price for his actions.
Josiah nodded, admitting reluctantly, โYouโre right. I didnโt like her before, but that was then.โ
Hearing this, Miranda was surprised. She stared at Josiah without blinking. Just as she could understand Cedricโs feelings, she could now tell that Josiah was serious. She asked, โAre you telling the truth?โ
Josiah nodded firmly, his eyes sincere. โYeah, itโs true.โ
โHuh?โ Miranda gasped softly, the impact significant. After a long pause, she shook her head. โWhy! In the past, you hated her so much.โ
Josiah had no idea how to explain it. If he could explain it now, he might understand why he disliked her so much back then. But in truth, it seemed like there was no reason for any of it.
Josiah could only say, โGrandma, I want to get Sienna back. Youโll help me, right?โ
Miranda stood speechless, her mouth open. She couldnโt find the words, not knowing what to say. She couldnโt know why, after his surgery recovery, Josiah would change so much.
Even though Josiah didnโt get a promise from Miranda, he felt a little relieved. After all, Miranda was his grandma, and there was no way she would not help him. However, that wasnโt enough. What really troubled him now was Siennaโs attitude. He wondered why Sienna refused him and how nice Cedric was. Josiah absolutely wouldnโt admit that Cedric was better than him. If Sienna was unwilling, heโd find a way to make her change her mind.
Later that evening, as Sienna left the Maze, Henry called her to his office.
Sienna said, her back still to him, โWhatโs up, Mr. White? I need to get to rehearsal. Thereโs a new dance today.โ
โOh, Sienna,โ Henry waved his hands repeatedly, looking troubled. โWell, you donโt have to perform tonight.โ
โWhat?โ Sienna was stunned. โWhy? Did I do something wrong?โ Ever since she joined the Maze, she had done everything Henry instructed, and heโd never shown any dissatisfaction.
Henry sighed deeply and shook his head repeatedly. โNo, no, youโre great.โ Because of Sienna, the profits of the Maze had soared recently, which was obvious to anyone.
โThen why?โ Sienna didnโt understand, but she had a sinking feeling that something was wrong.
โItโs Mr. Flynn,โ Sure enough, Henry said his name.
Sienna felt a heavy weight on her chest. โWhy would he do this?โ
Henry said helplessly, โMr. Flynn never tells us his reasons. He just made it clear that from today on, youโre not allowed to dance anymore.โ
Siennaโs shoulders slumped, and her face turned pale.
Henry was puzzled. โDidnโt he tell you?โ
โNo,โ Sienna shook her head slowly. For something that would cut her off from her livelihood, why would he tell her?
โHow can that be?โ Henry mumbled. โIt shouldnโt be like this. He dotes on you so much.โ He laughed as he spoke. He was genuinely afraid of Josiah. Even though losing Sienna was a huge loss for the Maze, Josiah was someone he couldnโt afford to offend.
โSienna, donโt overthink it. He must be concerned about you, not wanting you to work so hard. Well, with Josiahโs status, he can support you, right? From now on, you can just enjoy life,โ said Henry.
Not a word of what Henry said got through to Sienna. All she knew was that she couldnโt lose her job, at least not right now. Although Hannah would lend her the operation fees and Sienna didnโt have to worry about that now, Joyceโs long-term treatment needed more money. She asked, โMr. White, can I keep dancing? I donโt need anyone to support me.โ
Henry hesitated, shaking his head. โSorry, Iโm afraid that you canโt.โ As long as Josiah had said that, in Jelacrity, no one dared to offend him. Sienna didnโt want to make things harder for Henry. She knew it had to be resolved by herself.
โThen I wonโt bother you any longer. Thank you, Mr. White,โ said Sienna.
Henry said, โGood luck.โ
After leaving the Maze, Sienna picked up her phone, found Josiahโs number, and pressed the call button.
