Chapter 79

But Sienna was Josiahโ€™s woman, and he couldn't hit a woman, let alone his woman. The anger in his chest burned. Josiah suddenly raised his fist and slammed it down hard.

Sienna shut her eyes in fear. With a bang, the expected pain didn't come. She opened her eyes and saw his fist had hit the seat back. She wondered what was wrong with him.

"Get out," Josiah commanded coldly, without waiting for her to respond or looking at her.

"Oh, alright," Sienna said, not hesitating. She quickly opened the car door and scrambled out.

Staring at her retreating figure, Josiah remained silent, raising a hand to rub his forehead. She'd gotten away again. Did she really think she could just run off like that?

The next day was Sunday. Josiah woke up a little late and, as he went downstairs, faintly heard laughter from the living room. He didn't go over immediately but asked Linda, "Who's there?"

"Oh, it's Mr. Brawne," Linda replied, bringing Josiah's breakfast. "Mr. Flynn, here's your breakfast."

"Thanks," Josiah said, taking a sip of his coffee. He stood up, wondering why Cedric was in his house.

"Mr. Flynn, aren't you having breakfast?" Linda asked.

"Later," Josiah said, stepping toward the living room.

In the living room, Cedric was showing Miranda the gifts. "There are some gifts. I don't know much about them, but my mom said they're perfect for you."

"She's right," Miranda said, glancing over the gifts and nodding with a smile. "They are excellent. Thank your mother for her effort, and thank you too for bringing them over."

Cedric replied with a shy smile. "I'm glad you like them." He glanced at his watch and continued, "Today is the weekend. Are you alone at home?"

Miranda, shrewd, immediately realized Cedric wanted to see someone else. She chuckled. "No. Who are you looking for?"

Cedric felt embarrassed and immediately became shy. "Oh, no. I'm just wondering..."

Miranda grinned. "Only Josiah is home. I guess you probably don't want to see him."

Hearing that only Josiah was home, Cedric couldn't hide his disappointment. Although he was there to deliver something for his mother, he'd held out hope that Sienna might be there.

His rejection stung, and Cedric wasn't willing to accept it.

Miranda prompted him, "Who do you want to see? Is it Sienna?"

Cedric was taken aback, not expecting Miranda's sudden question. He accidentally choked and coughed, "L..."

"What's wrong?" Miranda asked, startled but amused, handing him a glass of water. "I just mentioned Sienna, and you have such a strong reaction. Here, drink up."

After gulping down two sips, Cedric finally caught his breath. "Thank you, Miranda."

Miranda smiled. "You like Sienna, right?"

Cedric was stunned again, almost choking once more. Flustered, he stammered, "Miranda, I..."

Miranda looked at him intently. "Yes or no?"

Cedric hadn't answered when Josiah entered. "Grandma."

At that crucial moment, they were interrupted. Miranda gave Josiah an annoyed glance. "You're up so early, and your timing is perfect."

Josiah was indifferent, watching Cedric like a concerned older brother. "Cedric, you're here?"

"Yes," Cedric nodded with a smile, explaining his reason for being there. "My mom asked me to bring some things over for Miranda."

Miranda waved her hand at Cedric. "You haven't answered my question. Do you like Sienna?"

Cedric hesitated. He felt shy at first, but after glancing at Josiah, he saw an opportunity. He needed to express his feelings to her family, especially her ex-husband. So, Cedric took a deep breath and nodded. "Yes, Miranda, I love Sienna."

As he finished speaking, Miranda and Josiah were both shocked.

Miranda clapped her hands together in excitement. "Are you serious, Cedric?"

"Yes, Miranda," Cedric adjusted his glasses, looking refined and handsome.

"Wonderful!" Miranda was delighted. She always knew Sienna, even if remarried, deserved the best young man. She continued, "Does Sienna know about this?"

"She does," Cedric frowned slightly. "But Sienna has some concerns."

"Oh!" Miranda, understanding, sighed. "She must be overthinking it. Don't worry, leave it to me."

Cedric was delighted. "Really? Thank you."

Miranda nodded, her expression serious. "But you must promise me you're committed to Sienna." She glanced at Josiah. "You don't mind her past and won't trifle with her."

Cedric was a little anxious. "Miranda, I'm genuinely serious about this." He glanced at Josiah sheepishly. "I don't care about her past. I just want to be part of her present and future."

Miranda was overjoyed. "Oh, good. Good boy, I trust you." She knew Cedric well. After Sienna's birthday party, she'd had someone check him out, confirming he possessed excellent character and abilities.

"Cedric, give Sienna some time," Miranda sighed. "You should understand her. From her point of view, she has many concerns, especially since you are so remarkable."

Cedric nodded seriously. "I will. I know what to do."

Josiah tried to interject. "Grandma..."

"Wait a moment. Can't you see I'm talking to Cedric?" Miranda ignored Josiah.

Cedric stood up, smiling. "I have something to do, so I need to leave now, Miranda."

Miranda didn't insist he stay. She'd said enough. "Thank your mother for me, and be careful on your way."

"No problem," Cedric left with a happy heart, and Miranda felt equally pleased.

Miranda glanced at Josiah. "Go eat your breakfast. What are you standing around for?"

Josiah had completely lost his appetite. His brows furrowed. "Grandma, don't randomly play matchmaker. Those two aren't a good match."

Miranda stopped and scrutinized him. "Don't tell me Sienna isn't good enough for Cedric. If so, I'll kill you."

Josiah let out a mocking laugh. "Grandma, Sienna deserves someone better."
