Chapter 97

“How… how is that possible? Are they not in this together?” Hailey stammered.

“Why was she unconscious and bleeding? Did she get into a fight? When was this? I hope Garry didn’t have a hand in this,” Cole said into the phone, glancing at Hailey, who looked as shocked as he.

“Garry?” Jessica’s confused voice came through. “What does Garry have to do with this?”

“He’s the reason I didn’t end the conversation with you earlier. He came to my home and attacked me for hiding Vanessa and his baby.”

“Holy shit, he’s the baby’s father?” Jessica exclaimed in disbelief.

“Nothing is certain, and honestly, I don’t think so. Garry only found out about the pregnancy yesterday. Vanessa called, saying she owed me money and I’d ruin her if she didn’t return it. So Garry sent her a million dollars. He came to my place to attack me, thinking I got the money, but he still held Vanessa and the baby hostage.”

“Vanessa is such an idiot. Why would she get involved with someone as ruthless as Garry?” Jessica said.

“I guess she’d do anything for money,” Hailey said.

“When did this happen? Garry might not have been involved. I left him at my house about an hour ago,” Cole said.

“It sucks that Garry was probably used, but you’re right. Vanessa was found this morning, and hopefully, Garry wasn’t pretending to be you.”

“I doubt it. He sounded too sincere.”

“So, what’s going to happen now? How did she end up unconscious, and where the hell is Connie? I don’t trust her one bit,” Hailey said.

“It’s crazy you’re still concerned about her after how much she’s hurt you,” Cole said to Hailey, who remained silent.

“Secus hacked into her phone and tracked her location. Vanessa was found in an abandoned apartment. She was bleeding and bruised; she was definitely beaten. Secus said he didn’t find a weapon, so it was probably a physical attack.”

“What apartment?” Cole asked.

“I don’t know, but Secus has the address. Vanessa is in the hospital, but he’s gone to find Connie. He also told the police.”

“This is crazy! Connie’s always been evil, but I never thought she’d be missing during something like this. A mother’s first instinct is to protect her child, regardless of the situation,” Hailey said.

“Or do you think Connie could be in trouble too?” Jessica asked.

“That woman is a manipulator. I don’t trust her, and I hope we find her soon,” Cole replied.

“Or maybe we’ll get more information from Vanessa once she’s conscious,” Hailey said.

“Do you think she’d stab her mother in the back? They’re partners, remember?” Cole said, referring to Hailey.

Hailey shrugged. “At least we’d know what happened and who the father of the baby is—Garry or someone else. I hope the baby is fine. Even if the mother is evil, the child is innocent. I know how devastated I was when I thought I lost the twins. No one deserves that scare or pain.”

“Babe, focus on the goal. It’s okay to be concerned about the baby, but don’t feel pity for Vanessa. She almost caused you to lose the twins. She ordered someone to kill you. You have a good heart, but Vanessa deserves whatever’s coming. It’s just a pity an innocent child is involved,” Cole said.

“We should hear from Vanessa before contacting Garry. I’m on my way to the hospital. Can you all make it?”

“I don’t think so,” Cole said, glancing at Hailey. “We’re the only ones home. No one can watch the kids, and Hailey hasn’t been feeling well. I need to be here for her.”

“Okay, no problem. Get well soon, Hailey. I’ll let you know what the doctor says.”

“And you need a new phone, Cole,” Jessica added.

“Yeah, I will.”

“Okay, take care. Talk later.” Jessica ended the call.

“Are you still worried?”

“I’m curious. Dad’s in jail, Hailey was almost killed, and who knows where Connie is?”

“Connie isn’t as smart as she thinks. We’ll find her soon. I’m glad they found Vanessa. It’s progress.”

“We should confront her together.”

Cole frowned. “Vanessa? Why?”

“So she’ll tell us where her mother is. I don’t take sides or feel pity for her. I just think her mother might have abandoned her.”

“Babe,” Cole pulled Hailey closer. “Don’t get stressed about Vanessa. She deserves what’s coming.”

“I’m not. I’m just curious. I’ve always wanted to know why she and her mother hated me. I’d like to talk to her before she’s arrested.” Cole shook his head. “I don’t want you anywhere near her.”
