Chapter 63 - Damon
I immediately reached forward and wiped away Clara’s tears with my thumb. Luckily, she didn’t push me away this time. “You don’t know how much I’ve wanted a baby, Damon. And to think I was pregnant all along, and I had no idea. If I knew, I would have protected our baby with my life,” she murmured softly, then slowly caressed her stomach. The fact that she called it ours made me smile. I grabbed her hand and kissed her palm.
“You can’t blame yourself, Clara. Blame the one who made you think you were barren, but don’t worry, I’ll take care of that,” I murmured. I reached out to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear, but she slapped my hand.
“I haven’t forgiven you, and frankly, I don’t know if I can. You hurt me, Damon. I wanted you, I needed you by my side when everyone was against me, but you turned your back on me. And now you expect me to come running back into your arms because I’m vulnerable? I’m sorry, but that’s not going to happen,” she muttered. I sighed.
“I don’t expect you to forgive me easily, and we are mourning the loss of our child together, whether you like it or not, because I’m not leaving your side. I can’t bear to leave your side again. You have no idea how those days without you have been. I don’t know what you did to me, Clara, but whatever it was has made me obsessed with you. I can’t breathe without you,” I confessed, unable to hold it back any longer. My emotions were all over the place, and I wanted her to know how I felt. “I’m ready to take this seriously, Clara,” I murmured, and her eyes widened.
“Take… take what seriously?” she questioned softly. I smiled and grabbed her hand. “Marriage. No more contracts. Let’s make this marriage real,” I murmured. She gasped, and tears immediately gathered in her eyes.
“But…”
“No buts. There’s nothing to think about. Why would I let you go? You’re mine under the law of the Moon Goddess, by birth. You’re destined to be mine, so I’m not letting you go,” I murmured, caressing her cheek before kissing away her tears and then kissing the tip of her nose. “I’ll give you tonight to consider if you want to be mine or not,” I murmured before standing up.
“And what if I don’t want to continue? What then?” she asked before I could leave. I smiled. “You’ll just have to reconsider, because I’m not taking no for an answer.” She grabbed my hand. “Rest up, okay?” I murmured, about to walk away again.
“You said you weren’t going to leave,” she murmured softly. I smiled. “I have something to take care of. I promise to be back before you wake up, okay?” I murmured. Her eyes were already drooping. “Okay,” she murmured before letting go of my hand. I stared at her for a while before leaning down to kiss her lips.
Chapter 63
“Are you done?” Delilah immediately asked as I walked out of the room.
“I’m coming with us, Delilah,” I murmured, and she immediately jumped up. “We’re headed down to Liam’s pack, and you’re coming with us.”
“Now that’s what I like to hear. Let’s go,” she murmured. At that moment, my parents walked towards us.
“Are you going somewhere?” my mother asked. Luca glanced at Delilah and me before nodding. “We have something to take care of,” he murmured, bowing his head.
“I’m leaving Clara in your care, Mother. If anything happens, call me immediately,” I murmured. Her eyes widened. She clearly didn’t expect me to entrust Clara’s safety to her, but I figured there was no use being angry at her anymore. We had all made mistakes. How could I expect Clara to forgive me if I didn’t forgive others?
“We’ll be back before midnight,” I murmured, nodding curtly at them before walking away. Delilah and Luca caught up with me, and we got into the car.
“Should I inform Liam’s pack about your arrival?” Luca asked. I shook my head. “I’d like it to be a surprise. Gather some of our men and order them to wait at the warehouse,” I ordered.
“Copied, Alpha,” he muttered. The car was quiet for a while until Delilah cleared her throat.
“So, when was anyone going to tell me that your marriage with Clara was just a contract so you could get the Alpha King title?” she said. My eyes widened as I turned to her.
“Clara told you?” I asked. She scoffed. “Not directly. When you sent the divorce papers, she mentioned a contract and that she wasn’t supposed to catch feelings, so I put two and two together. No wonder you were being so heartless,” Delilah muttered. I glared at her.
“Shut up, you don’t know anything about my relationship with Clara. Besides, I want to make it official now; I don’t want our marriage to be based on a contract anymore.”
As soon as I said that, the car stopped abruptly, and Luca turned to me with wide eyes. “Are my ears deceiving me? Did you just say what I think I heard you say?” he exclaimed. I glared at him. “Start the car. I have to be back before Clara wakes up,” I muttered. He hurriedly started the car and drove off, but I could see the smile on his face.
“But you do know that being with Clara will always put her in harm’s way, right? You have countless enemies, Damon, and they’ve been searching for a weak point for years. She’s becoming your weak point,” Delilah said. Did she think I didn’t know that? That’s why I never wanted to be close to Clara in the first place.
“I’ll protect her,” I muttered. She scoffed. “That man who almost killed her was sent because of you. Today just shows you can’t always protect her, Damon. You’re known as a one-man squad, but if this continues, one of you might get killed,” Delilah pointed out the fear we all had.
“I will protect her,” I murmured. She sighed. “Damon…”
“I’m not giving her up! I’ve never felt this way about anyone before, Delilah, and now you’re asking me to give her up because of fear? I’ve never been afraid of anyone, and if they so much as dare touch a hair on her head again, I’ll show the world once again who Death Viper is!” I muttered menacingly, silencing Delilah.
Chapter 63
“What are you going to do about the Lakeview pack? Are you going to attack them?” Luca asked. I shook my head.
“You said they’re from the south, right?” I asked. He nodded slowly. “Yeah.”
“Then the whole south has gone against me, and they will pay dearly for it. The whole world will know that Clara is not to be messed with after I’m done with them.”
