Chapter 88
Clara
“This is beautiful, Damon. Thank you,” I murmured as he took my hand and led me to our table. I didn’t know what to expect when Damon said we were going on a date, but this far exceeded anything I could have imagined. It felt like a fairytale; everything seemed too good to be true. He even rented the entire restaurant for us. He’s the Alpha’s son, but still…
I fought back happy tears.
“Don’t thank me yet; the night is just getting started,” he murmured, then kissed my cheek.
The room was covered in rose petals and fairy lights, creating a mystical, romantic atmosphere. As we approached the table, I saw it was also covered in petals, with two beautiful, angel-embroidered candles.
Damon pulled out my chair, and I smiled before sitting. He rounded the table and sat down.
“This won’t do,” he muttered, and I furrowed my eyebrows. Before I could ask anything, he moved his chair closer to mine.
“That’s much better, don’t you think?” he murmured, taking my hand. I just stared at him. Everything he was doing made my heart race. Why was I suddenly so nervous and shy?
“You don’t have to be shy; it’s just me, your narcissistic husband,” he murmured, kissing my cheek. I couldn't help but…
Damon snapped his fingers, and the waiters rushed to our table, bowing before handing him menus.
“What would you like to eat?” he asked. I frowned at the menu; I didn't recognize anything. To avoid looking foolish, I pointed at something at random.
“That will be fine,” I murmured. I knew it had beef and cheese; anything with those had to be good, right?
“With a milkshake?” he asked, and I nodded. He gave the waiter our order, and they left.
I turned to Damon and quickly looked away when I saw him staring. What was wrong with me? Why was I acting like I was on a first date with my crush?
Damon gently cupped my face, turned my head, and kissed my lips.
“Relax, it’s just me,” he murmured. I sighed.
“I’m… I’m not used to this kind of setting. Liam…” He growled, interrupting me.
“Don’t utter another man’s name, Clara,” he murmured, and I rolled my eyes.
“I was just trying to say that, although he and I went on a couple of dates, I’m not used to something so… romantic. And the way you’ve been staring at me is making me nervous,” I said truthfully.
“It’s not my fault you look so beautiful; I have to stare. Besides, I stare at you like this all the time, especially when you’re naked,” he murmured, kissing me. I immediately kissed him back, burying my fingers in his hair.
He wasn’t even touching me, and my body was already on fire. This man was sinful.
“When we get back, I’ll have my fill of you, but right now, this dinner isn’t about sex; it’s about getting to know each other better. I want to know everything about you, Clara,” he murmured against my lips before pulling away. It took a moment to recover from that kiss.
“Erm… I’m not that interesting. I have nothing to say,” I murmured. He shook his head.
“The Clara I know is very interesting. You can tell me anything; I’ll listen. Start from when you were a child,” he said. I thought for a while, trying to remember.
“I didn’t really have an interesting childhood. I’m sure you know Liam’s father saved me. Everyone said I was abandoned at the gate, but he told me I was handed to him,” I said, and he nodded slowly.
“Liam’s father also told my father you were given to him when you were six, right?” he asked, and I nodded.
“And you have no recollection of your parents at all?” he asked, and I nodded again.
“Liam’s father even took me to therapy to try and jog my memory, but nothing worked. I just can’t remember. He even consulted a witch, and she said my memory wasn’t magically blocked,” I revealed. He nodded slowly.
“I can help you find out who you are,” he murmured. I stared at him, then shook my head.
“Would you like to know who your parents are? I can look into it for you,” he offered.
When I was little, I’d wanted to find my parents. I’d wanted them to take me away after Liam’s father died. But as I got older, I realized it wasn’t worth it. Whether they left me at the gate or handed me to the Alpha, I was abandoned. Maybe it’s good I don’t remember them.
“My life is perfect right now. I don’t want anyone to jinx it, so no, let bygones be bygones,” I murmured, and he smiled.
“So your life is perfect, huh? Because of me, right?” he murmured cheekily, and I rolled my eyes.
“You’re the only downside, but I can’t seem to get rid of you,” I joked, and he grinned.
“Well, my life became perfect the minute I made you my wife,” he murmured, kissing the tip of my nose.
I smiled up at him, leaned in, and sighed contentedly as he wrapped his arms around me. I wished we could stay like this forever. I wished he would always be this way with me, vulnerable with me.
“I want to sing for you,” Damon said suddenly, and I looked up at him in disbelief.
“You? Sing? For me?” I asked, and he rolled his eyes.
“What? You think I can’t sing? I’m perfect at everything, Clara,” he murmured, waving the waiter over. He stood up.
The waiter handed him a microphone. Damon turned to me with a devilish smirk.
“Play ‘20’ by Justin Bieber,” Damon said, and the music began. He started singing, and I wasn’t surprised by how good his voice was. He was perfect at everything.
His eyes stayed on me as he sang beautifully, and I couldn’t help shedding a tear.
The song ended, and I cheered and clapped for him. He kissed my cheek.
“I’m convinced you can do anything,” I murmured, and he grinned, pushing a microphone toward me.
“Sing with me,” he murmured, and my eyes widened.
“Oh no, I can’t…” Before I could finish, he pulled me up and toward him.
“It doesn’t matter; I want to sing with you. What song?” he asked. I thought for a moment.
“Roman’s Revenge by Nicki Minaj,” I murmured, and the beat dropped. Damon kept his eyes on me as I sang.
I knew I was rambling because of how hard he was laughing, and I couldn’t help but laugh too. He joined in later, and we sang and laughed until our stomachs hurt.
When we were done, I ran to him and hugged him.
“Thank you. I’ve never been so happy,” I murmured truthfully, and he kissed the top of my head.
“I meant it when I said you were going to fall in love with me tonight…”
