Chapter 135
I threw on some clothes and got out of bed. By the dim light, I saw the iron gate was nearly deformed from the pounding outside; it seemed the person would break in any moment. Nervous and fearful, I quickly found a wooden stick and shouted at the door, โWho is it? If you knock again, Iโll call the police.โ
โRalda, open the door, itโs your brother.โ
Stunned, I wondered how it could be Quentin. Why would he be running back in the middle of the night? Was Reynaldo harming him? Thinking this, I hurried to open the door.
However, as I opened it slightly, a powerful force flung it wide open. A tall figure burst in, radiating a terrifying aura and chilling coldness. I trembled, staring at himโit was Reynaldo! I recoiled, stammering, โH-Howโฆhow is it you? Whereโs Quentin? Where is Quentin?โ
โAre you my brother?โ Reynaldo chuckled lightly.
Two men dragged Quentin in. I saw at once that he was covered in injuries. I exploded, shouting, โReynaldo, what are you doing? How dare you hurt Quentin!โ
โSo, you dared to escape? To hide?โ Reynaldo laughed menacingly. In the dim light, he resembled a cruel, bloodthirsty demon.
Furious and trembling, I lunged at him, ready to fight. He grabbed my neck, sneering coldly, โDo you really think you can escape my grasp?โ
โWhat on earth do you want?โ I shouted hoarsely.
He smiled slyly. โI didnโt want to do anything. I just wanted to teach you a lesson, to make sure you remember the consequences of defying me!โ He looked at Quentin and gestured to his two henchmen. โBeat them up hard!โ
โNo!โ I screamed in terror, sitting bolt upright.
The room was dark. I sat dazed on the bed until a cool breeze from the window made me shiver. Then I realized Iโd just had a nightmare.
Chapter 135
Thinking about the nightmare, my body trembled uncontrollably. I curled up in my blanket, wrapping myself tightly, but still felt cold and scared. Would Reynaldo really have gone after Quentin, hurt him?
I grabbed my phone; it was already 6:00 AM. I quickly called Quentin. He sounded sleepy. โWhatโs up, Ralda? Why arenโt you sleeping this early?โ He yawned.
I nervously asked, โReynaldo didnโt bother you, did he?โ
โNo, he just asked about your news yesterday and hasnโt contacted me since.โ
โOhโฆโ I replied blankly, feeling anxious.
Quentin asked, โRalda, what happened?โ
โItโs nothing, I just had a nightmare.โ
โAh, dreams are backwards.โ
โBrother, as long as youโre fine, itโs all good. If Reynaldo causes any trouble for you or our parents, you must let me know.โ
โI knew it, that man isnโt that scary, donโt be so suspicious.โ
I pursed my lips, remembering Reynaldo from my dream; my heart still pounded heavily.
Chapter 135
Once awake, I couldnโt fall back asleep. I stayed awake until dawn. When I went out for breakfast, I looked at the job advertisements. There was a recruitment board at the bus stop; it was full of postings for factory workers, mostly for three-shift work. I chose a few that didn't require nights, photographed them, and planned to inquire later.
โSister?โ
Just as I finished taking pictures, I heard Trevinโs voice behind me. I was startled and turned around. I saw Trevin and his mother walking toward me.
Trevin excitedly told his mother, โI said that looked like a girl from afar, and you said it wasnโt.โ
His mother smiled broadly. โYes, yes, it was you with your keen eye who spotted this beautiful young lady at first sight.โ
I smiled awkwardly, thanked them for the food theyโd brought recently, and asked why they werenโt at work today.
Trevin said, โWe have the day off.โ
