Chapter 135

I threw on some clothes and got out of bed. By the dim light, I saw the iron gate was nearly deformed from the pounding outside; it seemed the person would break in any moment. Nervous and fearful, I quickly found a wooden stick and shouted at the door, โ€œWho is it? If you knock again, Iโ€™ll call the police.โ€

โ€œRalda, open the door, itโ€™s your brother.โ€

Stunned, I wondered how it could be Quentin. Why would he be running back in the middle of the night? Was Reynaldo harming him? Thinking this, I hurried to open the door.

However, as I opened it slightly, a powerful force flung it wide open. A tall figure burst in, radiating a terrifying aura and chilling coldness. I trembled, staring at himโ€”it was Reynaldo! I recoiled, stammering, โ€œH-Howโ€ฆhow is it you? Whereโ€™s Quentin? Where is Quentin?โ€

โ€œAre you my brother?โ€ Reynaldo chuckled lightly.

Two men dragged Quentin in. I saw at once that he was covered in injuries. I exploded, shouting, โ€œReynaldo, what are you doing? How dare you hurt Quentin!โ€

โ€œSo, you dared to escape? To hide?โ€ Reynaldo laughed menacingly. In the dim light, he resembled a cruel, bloodthirsty demon.

Furious and trembling, I lunged at him, ready to fight. He grabbed my neck, sneering coldly, โ€œDo you really think you can escape my grasp?โ€

โ€œWhat on earth do you want?โ€ I shouted hoarsely.

He smiled slyly. โ€œI didnโ€™t want to do anything. I just wanted to teach you a lesson, to make sure you remember the consequences of defying me!โ€ He looked at Quentin and gestured to his two henchmen. โ€œBeat them up hard!โ€

โ€œNo!โ€ I screamed in terror, sitting bolt upright.

The room was dark. I sat dazed on the bed until a cool breeze from the window made me shiver. Then I realized Iโ€™d just had a nightmare.

Chapter 135

Thinking about the nightmare, my body trembled uncontrollably. I curled up in my blanket, wrapping myself tightly, but still felt cold and scared. Would Reynaldo really have gone after Quentin, hurt him?

I grabbed my phone; it was already 6:00 AM. I quickly called Quentin. He sounded sleepy. โ€œWhatโ€™s up, Ralda? Why arenโ€™t you sleeping this early?โ€ He yawned.

I nervously asked, โ€œReynaldo didnโ€™t bother you, did he?โ€

โ€œNo, he just asked about your news yesterday and hasnโ€™t contacted me since.โ€

โ€œOhโ€ฆโ€ I replied blankly, feeling anxious.

Quentin asked, โ€œRalda, what happened?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s nothing, I just had a nightmare.โ€

โ€œAh, dreams are backwards.โ€

โ€œBrother, as long as youโ€™re fine, itโ€™s all good. If Reynaldo causes any trouble for you or our parents, you must let me know.โ€

โ€œI knew it, that man isnโ€™t that scary, donโ€™t be so suspicious.โ€

I pursed my lips, remembering Reynaldo from my dream; my heart still pounded heavily.

Chapter 135

Once awake, I couldnโ€™t fall back asleep. I stayed awake until dawn. When I went out for breakfast, I looked at the job advertisements. There was a recruitment board at the bus stop; it was full of postings for factory workers, mostly for three-shift work. I chose a few that didn't require nights, photographed them, and planned to inquire later.

โ€œSister?โ€

Just as I finished taking pictures, I heard Trevinโ€™s voice behind me. I was startled and turned around. I saw Trevin and his mother walking toward me.

Trevin excitedly told his mother, โ€œI said that looked like a girl from afar, and you said it wasnโ€™t.โ€

His mother smiled broadly. โ€œYes, yes, it was you with your keen eye who spotted this beautiful young lady at first sight.โ€

I smiled awkwardly, thanked them for the food theyโ€™d brought recently, and asked why they werenโ€™t at work today.

Trevin said, โ€œWe have the day off.โ€
