Chapter 134
These days, let's not contact each other. As long as he finds no clues from you, he won't suspect you.
Lavonne looked at me anxiously. I patted her shoulder, smiling. "It's okay. Worst case, I'll hide in the rented room for a while."
Lavonne pursed her lips. "Okay. If anything happens, call me immediately."
"You too. If Reynaldo bothers you, tell me."
I feared Reynaldo might harm those around me to force me to appear. Hopefully, he hadn't become that insane.
Lavonne left only after seeing me off at the car.
I hadn't been in the car long when Quentin called. He asked anxiously, "Ralda, what's happening between you and Reynaldo? How did he find you and come to me?"
My heart tightened. It seemed Reynaldo had asked everyone around me. I quickly asked, "Did you tell him my number and address?"
"No way!" Quentin exclaimed angrily. "That guy was incredibly rude from the start, as if he wanted to confront you. How could I tell him your information?"
I told him I didn't know. I breathed a sigh of relief, smiling. "Thank you, brother. Next time he comes looking for you, ignore him."
"But Ralda, are you okay? Why did he suddenly go crazy looking for you?"
"Who knows what he's up to," I paused, reminding Quentin, "Watch out for our parents. I'm afraid he might harm them because of me."
"You can rest assured. He's changed, but you forget how respectful he used to be towards our parents; he wouldn't dare disrespect them."
Quentin sounded confident. I recalled Reynaldo's cold, fierce expression, and still felt uneasy. I hoped he wasn't serious. He has his beloved woman now; as long as I don't appear, he'll forget me soon. By then, I'll leave this city with my baby and start a new life peacefully.
Chapter 134
When we reached the shanty town, it was past 8 p.m. The alleyway and riverside bustled with vendors and pedestrians, creating a lively atmosphere.
I bought vegetables from a street vendor, figuring I wouldn't go out for a few days. Arriving at my doorstep, I unexpectedly found Trevin waiting.
I stared, exclaiming in surprise, "Trevin, what are you doing here?"
Trevin smiled, concerned. "I didn't see you come back last night. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. I was at a friend's." I looked at him. "Trevin, is there something you want to talk about?"
"No, nothing," Trevin said, handing me a bag. "These are oranges from my fellow villager. My mom asked me to bring some for you."
"Noโฆ no needโฆ" I quickly waved my hand, but Trevin stubbornly pressed the bag into my hands. "Our villager brought a lot; it'd be wasteful. Let's not be polite between neighbors."
I wanted to refuse, but Trevin turned and ran away. I looked at the oranges, feeling both heartwarming and helpless. Trevin and Aunt always brought me food, but I had nothing to repay them. I canโt just keep accepting their kindness. When this period passes, I'll treat them to a good meal.
I opened the door and entered the house. I put things away and lay on the bed, considering my next plan. This shanty town was remote, and Reynaldo always thought I was a pampered young lady who couldn't endure hardship. He'd never guess I'd live here. So, it was safe here. I didn't have much money, so I'd look for a job tomorrow.
I turned over and quickly fell into a deep sleep, my heart restless and uncertain. I don't know how long passed when urgent knocking came from outsideโฆ I woke up suddenly, sitting up in fear. Bang! Bang! Bang! The knocking echoed; the sound of the iron door was particularly eerie in the silent night.
