Chapter 111
Wasnโt that enough?
Yet, Rachel no longer wanted to bring these up. There was no need for her to.
It was time for their seven-year-long relationship to draw to a close.
โYouโve already signed the contract, so thereโs no point discussing this. We should instead think about how to handle the project well. This project was birthed for the sake of the company and not Ms. Judd, after all,โ Rachel said.
Samantha pursed her lips; she glanced at Rachel as she said chokingly, โBut Rachel, what about me? After all this, this project no longer has anything to do with me anymore. Itโs very important to me. Without it, I have no way of gaining a foothold in the country.โ
โRachel, even if you wanted to be in charge of Project Oasis, you should be considerate of others. Samantha poured her heart and soul into this project, too! And now, youโre just kicking her out for no good reason. Thatโs simply too much!โ William said coldly.
Rachel arched a brow. Was she too much?
She wouldnโt have uttered a word if Samanthaโs proposal had been decent. Yet, Samantha didnโt even bother correcting the typos in the document.
She did try to make way for Samantha, so much so that she found it going against her conscience.
Rachel looked indifferently at Samanthaโs red-rimmed eyes and the pitiful indignation on the latterโs face.
โIโve been giving in to her, and you know that. If sheโs still willing to work hard and contribute to the project, I can involve her. However, I must have ultimate say over the design direction of Project Oasis.โ
She said it so coolly and matter-of-factly, it made her sound even more imposing.
Samantha shook her head, her cheeks flushed, a hurt look in her eyes. โRachel, I know I might not be good enough for your standards. Donโt worry. Since the project is so important to you, IโฆI wonโt hold you back.โ
โOkay,โ Rachel agreed, not bothering to put up any pretense.
โRachel, donโt ask for too much! Lewis Enterprise is the one with the ultimate say over Project Oasis.โ
Williamโs brows furrowed as he looked at Rachel.
โAdd her name to the papers! Even if sheโs just assisting, it would still bolster her career prospects. Thatโs what I promised her mother. Rachel, you canโt make me go back on my word to a dying woman.โ
Rachel could sense that William was hell-bent on ensuring Samanthaโs involvement in the project, even if Samantha werenโt the one calling the shots. At the very least, there would be a shadow of her participation when the project eventually drew to a close.
Rachel glanced at William. โGot it.โ
โAlso, your sister told me she saw you and Mr. Hunt in a hotel room, and he was drugged. Is that true?โ
Williamโs gaze was fixed on Rachel as he threw the question at her, making her hair stand on end.
She knew clearly that William would no doubt find the answer to his question if he set his mind on investigating the matter. Hiding the truth would only invite trouble for herself.
Rachel straightened herself up, took a few breaths to steady herself, and said frankly, โYes.โ
Williamโs eyes darkened as his brows furrowed tightly. โSo you twoโฆโ
Before William could go on, Samantha grabbed Williamโs arm anxiously.
โWilliam, donโt make blind guesses! How could Rachel do something like that behind your back? There must be a misunderstanding somewhere.โ
Williamโs eyes narrowed, a storm brewing in them.
His gaze landed on Rachel once more.
โI donโt remember you wearing this dress at the banquet.โ
