Chapter 141

Her legs gave out, and she dropped to her knees, clinging pitifully to the leg of Tylerโ€™s pants.

โ€œMr. Hunt, I didnโ€™t know you were one of the hospitalโ€™s major shareholders! If I had known, I wouldnโ€™t have dared to do something like this.โ€

Then she turned to Rachel, all the arrogance from earlier completely gone.

โ€œYou must be Mrs. Hunt, right? Mrs. Hunt, I am so, so sorry. I didnโ€™t mean it. Iโ€™ve just been going through a tough time lately, and workโ€™s been overwhelming, too. I swear, if things were normal, Iโ€™d never treat you that way.โ€

Rachel had never had anyone kneel in front of her like this before, and for a moment, she was too stunned to respond. โ€œYou donโ€™t need to do that. Besides, Iโ€™m notโ€ฆโ€

โ€œMrs. Hunt! Hello!โ€

A familiar voice was suddenly heard from the doorway.

Rachel froze.

William walked in with Samantha. She didnโ€™t even need to look at him to know just how furious he was right now.

She felt a chill down her spine.

Samantha, on the other hand, looked completely unfazed. She strolled up to Rachel and tilted her head with a teasing smile. โ€œRachel, since when did you become Mrs. Hunt?โ€

Rachel kept her gaze lowered. Her heart was practically hammering out of her chest, but she forced herself to stay composed. โ€œItโ€™s just a misunderstanding.โ€

The nurse blinked in surprise. โ€œWait, youโ€™re not Mrs. Hunt? Then why was Mr. Hunt so worked up just now?โ€

Rachel wanted nothing more than to run over and tape that nurseโ€™s mouth shut. She had to be doing this on purpose.

Because of Rachel, the nurse was about to lose her job, so now she wanted to drag her down, too.

There were always people like that. If they were going down, theyโ€™d happily burn the whole house just to make sure others went with them.

Rachelโ€™s gaze suddenly turned cold. โ€œEven if weโ€™re just friends, would you really stand by and do nothing while a nurse jabs a needle into your friendโ€™s arm hard enough to make them scream? Would you?โ€

The nurse had no comeback. Her mouth snapped shut.

Noah turned and, upon spotting William, immediately straightened up with a respectful smile. โ€œMr. Lewis, what brings you here tonight?โ€

William nodded toward Rachel. โ€œMy wifeโ€™s in this ward.โ€

Noah looked stunned and turned back toward Rachel. โ€œSheโ€™s your wife?โ€

He didnโ€™t say more, but the implication was loud and clear. Just like the nurse, heโ€™d also assumed Rachel was Tylerโ€™s wife.

Rachel pursed her lips tightly. It felt like every time Tyler was around, something chaotic would happen.

William walked over and towered above her. His presence suddenly felt oppressive. He raised his hands and began making gestures. โ€œWhy are you with Tyler again?โ€

Rachel caught the anger and disdain in his eyes. She also knew exactly why he was using sign language. He didnโ€™t want Samantha to understand.

Anyone who hadnโ€™t studied it wouldnโ€™t be able to make sense of what he was saying.

Rachel frowned and responded in sign. โ€œMr. Hunt called me. He said there were still issues with the team-building plan that hadnโ€™t been finalized. He happened to be here, too.โ€

William clearly didnโ€™t buy her explanation. He kept signing, but more aggressively this time. โ€œWhy didnโ€™t he just call me directly?โ€

Before Rachel could even respond, Tylerโ€™s voice cut through the room. It was cold and laced with sarcasm. โ€œWell, Mr. Lewis, that would require you actually being available.

โ€œBut since you were busy spending the night at the hospital with a female employee, I figured you probably didnโ€™t have time for work.โ€
