Chapter 145
At that moment, Rachel felt a surge of anger rise within her. Her cheeks were burning hot.
Tyler, of course, looked at her with that irritatingly smug, provocative gaze. โWhat? Do you want to hit me?โ
Rachel did want to hit him, but she was fully aware of the strength difference between men and women. She chickened out. โI wouldnโt dare.โ
โThen hurry up and sing. Iโm trying to sleep!โ Tyler grabbed the blanket with one hand and pulled it over himself.
Rachel recalled the childrenโs song Tyler had hummed earlier. She looked up the lyrics on her phone, took a few minutes to get into the mood, and then began to sing softly.
โItโs him, itโs him, our friend, Torch. In the skies, he soars high. In the seas, he dives deepโโ
Rachel had no idea whether Tyler actually liked it or not, but she knew singing a childrenโs song would be easier to stay on key. If she tried a pop song, itโd probably sound like a banshee screaming.
After she finished the song, she noticed Tyler lying still on the hospital bed. His back rose and fell gently. He had actually fallen asleep.
Was her singing basically a lullaby?
She waited a few more minutes, confirming he really was asleep, before finally letting out a long sigh of relief.
Why did this feel like she was babysitting a child?
Rachel shook her head. She then pulled out her phone to check the team-building problem Tyler had sent her.
At first glance, she thought sheโd misread it. But after checking several times, she realized what the problem was.
What were they supposed to eat for lunch and dinner?
She looked up at Tyler in disbelief.
Was he mentally ill? He came all the way here in person for something like this? Couldnโt he just leave that to someone working for him?
There were even several options that included five local farm-to-table restaurants.
Rachel finally picked one with food that seemed like it would suit most people, based on reviews and menu variety.
A few hours later, her IV drip was almost done. A nurse came in to remove the needle.
This nurseโs attitude was way better than the previous oneโs, and Rachel didnโt feel any pain at all.
The nurse even updated her about Tyler afterwards. โThe gentleman over there will take a bit longer.โ
โThatโs fine. Just make sure to come back and remove his needle later,โ Rachel replied.
She slipped on her shoes and quietly left the room.
Tyler didnโt wake up until close to six in the morning. He glanced at the back of his hand and realized the needle had already been removed.
He turned over to check the bed beside him. It was empty.
Just then, a nurse came by to help another patient.
โExcuse me, what happened to the patient in that bed?โ Tyler asked.
โShe left after the IV drip finished.โ
Tyler smirked. โShe ran off pretty fast.โ
He checked the time on his watch. His brows twitched slightly. Had he actually slept that long?
He immediately dialed a number.
โI slept for six hours.โ
โWhat the hell? Are you joking right now? You actually slept for six hours? What happened? Did you overdose on sleeping pills or something? Iโm telling you, if you take too much, that stuff can kill you.โ
Tylerโs voice was calm. โI didnโt take any sleeping pills.โ
Xavier clearly didnโt buy it. โSeriously? Not even one? I donโt believe you.โ
โI swear, not a single one.โ Tyler couldnโt help but laugh at Xavierโs shocked tone. Why would he lie about something like this? Xavier finally started to calm down. โFine. Tell me, if you didnโt use meds, how did you manage to fall asleep?โ
