Chapter 146

Xavier had been prescribing medication for Tyler for years to treat his sleeping disorder. There was a period when it had become so frustrating that it had nearly broken him. He had even begun to doubt whether he was truly cut out to be a doctor. How could he not even fix a single case of insomnia?

Over the years, heโ€™d tried everything he could think of, including acupuncture, herbal remedies, dietary therapy, and even sound-based treatments like white noise. If it existed, he tried it. If it didnโ€™t, he invented it. But the results were minimal at best.

As a doctor, if all his efforts had failed, he really couldnโ€™t imagine what else could possibly help Tyler fall asleep.

โ€œYou have to tell me, who did this? What exactly did they do to make you sleep that long?โ€

He had to know.

Someone had managed to put this chronic insomniac to sleep for six straight hours. That was practically a miracle. The best solution heโ€™d ever come up with had only managed to keep Tyler asleep for a little over four hours.

Tyler looked genuinely helpless as he said, โ€œSince youโ€™re asking so sincerely, Iโ€™ll do you the kindness of telling you. Itโ€™s very simple, singing.โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ Xavier thought he mustโ€™ve misheard. โ€œDid you just say singing? Bro, are you messing with me? Singing what? โ€˜Happy Daysโ€˜?โ€

โ€œโ€˜Torchโ€™.โ€

โ€œPfft! I get it now. Itโ€™s because your mental age is three, right? My apologies. I clearly overestimated you before.โ€

He had tried playing music for Tyler in the past. It had mostly been soothing stuff, of course. Who wouldโ€™ve guessed this guy preferred childrenโ€™s songs?

Tyler lowered his voice and growled, โ€œGet lost.โ€

Xavier just kept going. โ€œBut hey, if it really works, maybe you should hire that person to sing for you regularly. Speaking of, now Iโ€™m really curious, who was it that sang you to sleep?โ€

โ€œYou know her. Mrs. Lewis.โ€

โ€œWilliamโ€™s wife?โ€ Now Xavier was truly shocked. โ€œOkay, now what is wrong with you? I mean, sure, I can understand wanting someone who can sing childrenโ€™s songs, but did it have to be his wife? Can you imagine the drama if this ever gets out? The kind of headlines? Man, I donโ€™t even want to think about it. You just recovered from the last beating. If this keeps up, Gerald might whip you again.โ€

Tyler wasnโ€™t the type to sit around listening to people ramble. โ€œEnough. You sound like an old woman nagging. Cut it out.โ€

He didnโ€™t even wait for Xavier to say another word. He just hung up.

Company policy had them meeting at the LS Enterprise building by half past seven, but it was already well past departure time, and there was still no sign of Rachel.

Tyler checked his watch. His expression was cold and detached. He was here strictly for business. โ€œWhatโ€™s going on? Why isnโ€™t she here yet?โ€

William looked confused. โ€œDidnโ€™t you two share a hospital ward last night? Didnโ€™t she say goodbye before she left?โ€

Tylerโ€™s eyes darkened. His tone was laced with mockery. โ€œWhat, William? Are you asking me to find your wife now?โ€

William had been all bold and righteous a second ago, but one look from Tyler and all his confidence immediately deflated. He hesitated for a few seconds, then turned away and kept trying to video call Rachel.

Chapter 146

There was still no answer.

That was when Arsen walked over to remind them, โ€œMr. Lewis, itโ€™s been over thirty minutes. Should we go?โ€

The sun was particularly harsh today. William squinted slightly under the bright glare with hands on his hips. โ€œYou guys go ahead. Iโ€™ll wait for her.โ€
