Chapter 147

Arsen looked a bit troubled. โ€œThat wonโ€™t work. Someone still needs to go up there and take charge.โ€

โ€œLet Mr. Hunt go first,โ€ William said.

Arsen was visibly shocked. His gaze instinctively darted toward Tyler. โ€œHuh? Mr. Hunt? I really donโ€™t think thatโ€™s a good idea. Someoneโ€™s going to have to give a few opening remarks. With Mr. Huntโ€™s personality, heโ€™ll probably go up there and say something like โ€˜Work hard or get out. We wonโ€™t even bother shaking hands on the way out.โ€™โ€

Everyone knew that leading a team wasnโ€™t just about power and status. It was about balance. Tyler, on the other hand, didnโ€™t even bother pretending. He hated business formalities and had no patience for small talk.

Even Arsen understood Tylerโ€™s temperament, so of course William knew it all too well.

He sighed. โ€œFine, Iโ€™ll go talk to him.โ€

Bracing himself, William walked over to Tyler again.

โ€œMr. Hunt, we really canโ€™t keep the employees waiting. Letโ€™s send the first group ahead.โ€

โ€œMm. No need to wait. Letโ€™s go,โ€ Tyler said, clearly already eager to leave as he reached out and opened the car door.

Just as he was about to get in, William pressed a hand to his shoulder. โ€œNo, Mr. Hunt, I meant Iโ€™ll go with the staff first. Could you wait here a bit for Rachel?โ€

Tyler raised an eyebrow. He was clearly surprised by the request. โ€œYou want me to wait here for your wife? William, werenโ€™t you drowning in jealousy? Are you a changed man?โ€

His sarcasm was turned up to maximum.

Williamโ€™s expression darkened instantly.

โ€œMr. Hunt, you must be joking. Sure, there were some misunderstandings before, but thatโ€™s all in the past. Besides, a man like you would never be interested in another manโ€™s wife. Gerald wouldnโ€™t allow you to be with someone already married either. He wonโ€™t let you be a homewrecker.โ€

Tyler didnโ€™t argue. In fact, he nodded along as if fully agreeing. โ€œYou make a fair point, Mr. Lewis. I wouldnโ€™t stoop so low as to interfere in someone elseโ€™s marriage.โ€

Divorced women didnโ€™t count, of course.

Hearing that, most of Williamโ€™s tension melted away. โ€œThen Iโ€™ll leave her in your care. Unless youโ€™d prefer I stay and wait, but in that case, Iโ€™ll have to count on you to go and take the lead at the event.โ€

Tyler waved him off. โ€œYou know I canโ€™t stand that sort of thing.โ€

William knew all too well. With their roles sorted out, William took the team and left first.

By the time Rachel arrived, it was already close to half past eight. She came running in, face flushed, sweat glistening across her forehead. She doubled over and panted heavily.

She felt like if sheโ€™d run even a few steps more, she might have passed out. Just like that, she watched the teamโ€™s vehicles drive off without her.

Rachel sighed. She was still late after all.

She squatted on the ground, trying to catch her breath for just a few minutes. Suddenly, a pair of polished leather shoes appeared in front of her.

A low, teasing voice followed.

โ€œRachel, if you wanted to ride in my car, you couldโ€™ve just asked. No need for the dramatic entrance.โ€

Rachel looked up and saw Tyler towering over her with that ever-present smirk on his lips. Even like this, she could feel the aloof arrogance in his eyes.

He had an untouchable king-of-the-hill energy.

She smiled a little.

As expected, Tyler never missed a chance to take a jab at her.

Propping herself up with both hands on her knees, she slowly straightened up. Her lips were slightly parted, and she was still catching her breath as she spoke.

โ€œMr. Hunt, do you have a narcissistic personality disorder? Should we get you a doctor for that?โ€
